Review: Kicking off with a VIP of one of the killer 90s jungle nostalgia anthems of 2010 - Bladerunner's "Back To The Jungle" - it's a great start to the next Critical compilation. Moving through the tough, percussive sounds of Break, soulful dub tinged efforts of Breakage, the blissed out Calibre in "Rockafella" to the sounds of man-of-the-moment, hotly tipped Enei with his fantastic "Forgive Me" around the halfway point, it's immediately apparent why Kasra's label has garnered such respect from his peers. Lomax - one half of Loadstar - provides a deeper incarnation to his Ram bangers in "Innocent X" and elsewhere, Rockwell's "Underpass" makes a re-emergence as does ubiquitous anthem "Redlines" which closes this utterly superb compilation.

Total Science feat Riya
Review: A joyous and soulful D&B tune from production duo Total Science, who have great form with releases on Metalheadz, True Playaz and DJ Marky's Innerground label. "Redlines" is a proper standout, largely thanks to the soft and seductive vocals of Riya which balances out the beats nicely. With the vocals syncing so sweetly with the chopped up chords of "Redlines", Total Science thankfully let the track breathe and don't over egg the tune at all. "Flipside Skinz" makes the perfect companion - coming in harder with more attitude via some sick basslines and drums. Another quality cut from a team who know the art of drum and bass back to front.

Review: Friction knows how to throw a party... Their "100" celebrations started in March and they're still going strong three months later! A chance for the label's artists and friends to stretch their skills and signatures, there's been some really exciting, subversion work throughout the series. This final piece in the puzzle is no exception; "Fourward" deliver their funkiest track to date, Karma gets all soulful, Total Science get all drifty and ethereal while Break simply reminds us why we love him. All four cuts glistening with long-lasting gold, Shogun can carry on celebrating their 100th release for as long as they like as far as we're concerned.

Review: Total Science and Jubei releasing a joint single on Metalheadz is about as legendary a combination as you can get, isn't it? The three artists have shaken their heads together and come out with a classic old-school release that relies on a thick sense of rough vibrancy in all areas of production. You can feel the history on this one. 'Reality Check' is the roller of the single and boy, you really can't beat the weight of the drum sounds on this one and the percussion is the main attraction here: rough and ready to roll. 'Redemption' is steppier and more breaksy but no less fluid, with a groaning pulse of a back end and a rave-influenced synth line which contrasts beautifully with the lows. The boys are back.

Review: Reviewed by Klute: Well this brings back many memories for obvious reasons and its nice to listen and think back to this time. In the early 2000's Metalheadz moved its Sunday sessions over to the Limelight at Cambridge Circus in London and I remeber going religiously every Sunday around the time this LP was being compiled, so we all heard most of these tunes being tested out in the club. Great times. Stand outs for me are Jonny L, Marcus intalex, Spirit, Total Science, myself of course and most of all The Invaderz masterpiece Revealed. Still to this day my fav ever tune from them. Great compilation.

Review: One of the most consistent production outfits across D&B's 25 year spectrum, Total Science pay homage to the most crucialist of crucial eras: Blue Note. The lead track takes us right back to the mid '90s with cavernous space and sheet metal scrapping textures. "Soul For Sale" is a jazzier jaunt with spasmodic synth flurries and a two-step so sharp you'll lose your lobes. "Contraband" weaves such strong drum magic you could be convinced you've gone 20 years back in time while "All Massive" is a straight-up heads-down affair. Finally "Man Down" is a straight up Headz homage with all the uncompromised dynamics we know and love from the label. Noteworthy.

Review: Pioneering duo Quiff and Spinback return with yet more reminders that they are one of the most consistent and longest standing duos in D&B. Not a year has gone by since 92 when these chaps haven't released something... And they always, always stay ahead of the curve, too. 'Road Runner' is your classic low-slung bubbler that rattles and bumps with timeless jungle charm. 'Fxk That' brings a little more theatre into the mix thanks to its sustained strings and hyper grizzled bass textures. Both absolutely slay.

Review: Bristol by way of Oxford's Computer Integrated Audio return with their latest cache of drum and bass weapons, courtesy of label heads Total Science whose track "Fallen Angel" receives a techy and rolling dose of restrained fury by Leonardo de Jesus Silva aka L-Side. This also happens to be his debut CIA Records release. The next execution comes directly from the Brazilian hot shot himself in the form of the darkly dystopian and atmospheric stepper "Untouchable" which is reminiscent of classic No U Turn or Virus material from back in the day. Review: Player central: Not one artist on this EP doesn't command serious respect. Ed:It and Pennygiles's 2014 firecracker gets the treatment from Ulterior Motive, adding just a lick or two of shade to the already solid groove. ST Files and Response follow with a beautifully restrained deep stepper that's not dissimilar to erstwhile ST collaborator Marcus Intalex. Total Science and FD maintain the deep theme with a soulful rolling track that's not dissimilar to their Funky Technicians material. Villem and McLeod anchor the EP with a unique halftime roll that balances dark and light tighter than your nan's 1950s television. A truly spotless EP.

Review: Owners of CIA and long-time legends Total Science team up with long time collaborators Quadrant, Iris and Kid Hops - this time around for two slices of razor sharp breaks. "Pushin' Your Luck" delivers on every level, maxing out vintage drums with decrepit sampling decor. "Obsolete" kicks back slightly, opting for a fresher take on new age drum and bass breaks with the type of ebullient bass that just keeps bubblin' under the surface. Two tunes to salute.
