Tour-Maubourg is a leading light in France’s thriving underground music scene. He has been an entrenched part of Pont Neuf Records ever since the label’s inception, his releases have cast him as one of the country’s most exciting producers of the genre in recent years. From spearheading France’s jazz-house and electronica scenes, he is a flag bearer for modern French music. Reminiscent of St Germain from years gone by, his maiden album - Paradis Artificiels – received critical acclaim upon its release in 2020. Now, his new upcoming album Spaces of Silence (January 2023) promises to further showcase the eclecticism of his sound, forming a body of work that blurs the lines of soulful house, nu-jazz and everything in between. Add to that a fast-emerging touring schedule that has seen him play throughout France, or in London and Berlin amongst others, to see that 2022 has been a career highlight for the Frenchman: and long may it continue.
Review: Having launched their self-titled imprint earlier in the year via an EP of their own, Brussells-based Supra House Collectif (a publicity shy four-man production tag team) has decided to hand over the reins to release number two to a quartet of talented friends-in-music. Experienced artist Tour-Mauborg steps up first with 'Supra House', a rolling slab of Clavinet-sporting loop-house funkiness, before Bendrix opts for a deeper, warmer and more tactile - though still quietly joyous - deep house sound on 'All Along'. Max Telaer makes great use of woozy, tipsy, looped vocal samples on his drowsy but percussively punchy 'Better Days', while UC Beatz's 'So Blue' is a gorgeous and summery fusion of shuffling house beats, starry synth stabs and sweeping synth-strings.
Review: Following up some great releases by the likes of Alva, Cosmonection and KX9000, the Parisian Pont Neuf crew return to form with this great new one by Tour-Maubourg - the alias of one Pierre d'Estienne d'Orves. Following up releases on Fina, Groovance and FHUO, d'Orves serves up some wicked jams on the Solitude Collective EP: featuring deeply hypnotic house (on a strongly percussive tip) that's reminiscent of hometown hero DJ Gregory on "Artifice", some dusted down and jazzed-up sounds of his fair city on sublime cuts like the title track or "Albatros" or the sexy and emotive late night deepness on the wonderful closer "1984".
