Review: Fair play it's been an impressive run from DJ Warden's Bagged & Tagged this year, despite the rona working its wicked way with 2020. Following massive EPs from the likes of Total Recall, BlckHry and Obbley & Maze the label now hits with its biggest release to date... An all-star remix EP featuring the likes of Heist, Nu Elementz, Slipz and D-Nasty. All off them given the green light to go nuts on some of the label's most distinctive cuts so far. Highlights include Heist's raucous harmonic twist on the bassline of Vital & Phenom's 'Hoe Money' and D-Nasty's skin-melting technoid riff. Disgusting. Bag this one right now.
Review: Bagged & Tagged are a regular here on Juno and for good reason, their proclivity for steadily releasing rough but energetic, whole-hearted cuts is strong and their small size doesn't prevent the release of top-quality music. They've roped in the Belgian crew for this one and 'Market' is the strongest on the release, with a Low Down Deep-esque feel to its cracking percussion and a torn, broken back end that rips across the range with style. The other 3 cuts go down a similar, wicked jump-up route and, if you like B&T, this is the release for you.
Review: VIP time! Belgian badman Trafalgar returns to Octave with two special versions of his last release on the label 18 months ago. The sole preserve of top ranking jump up DJs for the last year, you've might have heard these brain melters already... "Get Out VIP" is pure staccato savagery, now with an added little twist to the hook on the riff. "Unfair VIP" takes an even darker twist than the original but still takes the time to call you fat. You can call him square all you like, but the truth is Trafalgar is all heart.
Review: Trafalgar's back on the 187 again, laser riffs are popping off, beats are swaggering like a load of lorries going over a rickety bridge and there's blood everywhere. You gonna clean it up or add to the body count? Your choice. "Afraid" takes us even deeper down Traf's tunnel with a mutated hardcore lead that twists in and out of a paranoid staccato riff. Deadly stuff as ever. Don't be square.
Review: Few of us could avoid Trafalgar's "Partners" last year with its militant rifle-like hook and face-melting beats. Now he's opened up the game for more partners to join the grit franchise. Tisoki adds a little savage harmony a la Macky Gee, Jack The Ripper maintains the gnarly factor with more laser flinging while Quantix adds some serious leftfield sci-fi funk and Arrax tweak the lasers to planet (and face)-melting levels. Complete with a killer VIP from the man himself, this is less of an offer to partner up and more of a straight up marriage proposal. The answer's yes Trafalgar - just tell us when and where.
Aclypse & Insert K - "Kill Like A Vulture" (feat MC Kolapse) - (4:26) 175 BPM
Skura - "Degrade" - (4:50) 172 BPM
Review: Wooiii get your screwfaces and gun fingers ready, loud, aggressive and full of fun, this entire EP encapsulates everything good jump up should be. 'Truth' has a collection of sounds which make it sound incredibly important and almost regal. 'Anything You Say Kid' is an absolute ba-hanger full of weird sci-fi, plinky plunky sounds, if very different to your usual. With anticipation building, horror show worthy glimmer's before plummeting in to dark swaths of pulsating lasers, we know we really are 'In a Special Kind of Space'. 'Degrade' walks us into a more deep and techy realm, with filthy distortion and metallic sounds.
Review: Belgian laser blazer Trafalgar ain't no square. This hefty four-track Bulletproof EP is proof... With its twisted dynamics and surprises, "Confidential" burns through rules like a spy shreds sensitive papers, "Blind" slams and pops on with a crazy triplet-style drone-fest while "Crash" stutters and growls with a hypnotic staccato bass effect. Finally "Partners" closes the deal with eerie tones on the build up before dropping into another ugly signature jitter riff. Sense melting material.
