Review: Released to coincide with the sixth anniversary of his passing, Back is the final album from Trevino aka Marcus Intalex. It documents his love of house and techno, as well as his ability to carve out unique perspectives on these sounds. While those views are influenced by Marcus' drum'n'bass background - check the crisp break beats of "Pitch Dark" - a love of dubby textures is audible on the hypnotic swing of "No Response". "Eve" sees Trevino swing towards raw, reduced techno while "Gateway" sounds like his take on the percussive rhythms of Octave One. Sadly but fittingly, the closing track is called "The End". But rather than just evoke grief, its melancholic melodies bring the curtain down on the life and music of a remarkably talented artist.

Review: Following on from the recent 2.1 compilation, Hotflush again shows why it is such an essential dance floor label. It features established artists like Agoria, who drops the discordant tones and spiky minimalism of "Helice" and Recondit with the deep, dubbed out "Channel" , alongside emerging producers like Glaskin with the twisted acid of "You Are Simply A Machine". No Hotflush compilation would be complete without its owner Scuba's input; here it takes various forms, including a broken beat remix of "Ruptured" by Surgeon, and the SCB sub-project dropping the sub-bass led "Rope". If that wasn't reason enough to buy Floor 2.2, there is also a fine techno track from the late, great Trevino.

Review: The latest compilation from Scuba's label features some of dance music's most distinctive producers. Recondite delivers "Pour", a throbbing, spaced out groove that will leave listeners mesmerised. Locked Groove, another Hotflush regular, also focuses on the deeper end of techno with the hypnotic, flowing "From Beyond". The compilations also includes "If You Still Want Me", an evocative house cut from Yotam Anvi, where plaintive vocals unravel over a dubbed out groove, while Scuba himself impresses with the synth-heavy "Nineteen Eighty" and, working as SCB, drops the steely, stepping rhythm of "Five Degrees". Floor 2.1 is an essential release for anyone with even a passing interest in forward-facing techno and house.

Oliver Deutschmann - "Sequel" - (5:57) 130 BPM
SCB - "Rolling SN" - (6:16) 130 BPM
Review: The second volume of the Endeavours compilation starts with the artist it is dedicated to - Trevino. "Plugged" shows why the UK producer, who sadly passed away earlier this year, was held in such high esteem - its rich, dubby chords and swaggering groove sounding effortless. By contrast, Ambivalent delivers a rough, rugged take on jacking techno with "Supertouch" under his LA-4A guise, while Lando inhabits similar territory on the grimy "Ritual Track". There are emotions of a different nature audible on TML's "Crying (Piano Mix)", where euphoric keys and haunting vocals unfold over a rolling groove. Oliver Deutschmann provides the toughest, most frenetic track in the shape of the loopy techno "Sequel", while Scuba himself works as SCB to deliver the rough, sample-heavy techno of "Rolling SN".

Jungle Love - (6:45) 129 BPM
Review: Following on from the release of his debut Trevino album earlier this year, Marcus Kaye celebrates another first - his inaugural release on Scuba's label. The title track is underpinned by a typically beefy Trevino low end and provides the basis for atmospheric chords and wave upon wave of jittery melodies. By contrast "Desecrate" is a high-paced techno number, powered by thunder claps and gristly bass stabs and "Mosaic", while less visceral, has an unquestionably functional feel thanks to the surging dub bass and pinprick acid lines that power it. Proving that he is a versatile artist, even when it comes to the dance floor, "Jungle Love" sees Kaye lay down a chord-soaked stepper.

Review: Aus Music are proud to present another wonderful deep excursion by the artist formerly (well...still, actually) known as Marcus Intalex. This legendary Mancunian producer always had a distinct knack for all things soulful and emotive, even when he was experimenting in breakbeat science. It is no wonder he fits into four to the floor grooves like a glove, as shown on great releases for Klockworks, The Nothing Special and 3024. "Casino" gets the EP of to a fine start with uplifting piano chords lifting you higher and higher over a subtle backing arrangement while the dub version injects more adrenaline into it, complete with a stomping beat and haunting dub chord resonations: well steely! Finally "Contact" is definitely more in line with the label's sound on this fluid and sombre tech house groove that's smooth as silk!

Review: Trevino's Birdie imprint is back! Nick Sinna's "Sidewinder" is dark and tunnelling minimal techno reminiscent of the Baby Ford classic "Dead Eye". Sideways' "Reverse Momentum" is tough but soulful with its broken beat and delayed chords working off each other effectively. Manchester legend Marcus Intalex dons the Trevino moniker again for some quality techno in the form of "Playtime" but remixed by UK bass stalwart Mosca and taking on a deep and tunnelling trip with an infectious resonating melody. Finally Adam Peik & Cory James offer us the desolate groove of "Playtime" with its sombre and immersive chords backing a cavernous breakbeat but wait until that arpeggio comes creeping in.

Review: Trevino makes a rare appearance off the golf course with a four-track EP on his brand-new label, Birdie. Up to this point, the Manchester-based producer's work has been scattered across imprints manned by industry heavyweights, like Ben Klock's Klockworks and Martyn's 3024, but now he's made a home for his own relentless output. It was a natural step for a stalwart who never stops creating, and manning his own platform has allowed him to explore the depths of his sound. This first EP opens with "To The Core", a driving house track with melancholic synths and metallic percussion. "Warmer" is more of a sunrise jam inspiring a sense of wonder with gliding synths, yo-yoing melodies, and cute bleep-bloops. The release also features the more ominous track "Playtime", which develops a menacing edge with a gritty bassline, and "Mesmerize," another psychedelic cut with wavering synths and glittering instrumentation.

Exclusive material comes from Big Strick, Fred P, Dexter, Juju & Jordash and Steffi herself, while other house cuts come from former drum and bass staples Endian (Commix) and Trevino (Marcus Intalex). Other veterans to feature in the mix include DJ Skull with his original '93 pressing "Don't Stop The Beat", while Steven Tang's Obsolete Music Technology chips in with "Latency". Newer sounds come from Fear Of Flying's BLM, US-based deep house producer Chris Mitchell, DJ Fett Burger and Will Martin collaboration with John Barera; one half of Boston outfit B-Tracks.

Review: While it might be tricky in these open-minded times for Scuba to shatter preconceptions the way that he did with his Sub:Stance mix a few years ago, this compilation should be seen really as a celebration of the man himself as a DJ. After launching with a decidedly minimalist approach, the mix meanders between pacey techno, bluesy broken beat and rolling dubstep tempos. At times the flow feels unsteady, but then it just rings true that he put this mix together for himself. Without a dancefloor to look after, who knows where many of our favourite DJs might take us?
