Review: Trikk's debut album comes courtesy of Innervisions and was produced in label co-head Ame's 'hardware wonderland'. Partly descending from the club-focused tackle with which the Portuguese artist has made his name, Fauna & Flora also incorporates art-rock, punk and post-punk to expand on his electronic foundations. He worked with an array of collaborators as well, including Swiss DJ and musician Jimi Jules ("Absolute Body Control") and Brazilian visual artist Gabriel Massan ("Mata Mata") and Feon on "Ouro" (Love Trippin) - seeing him step outside of his comfort zone.

Review: It can be a tricky task keeping up with Pets Recordings jam-packed release schedule. That's why the imprint's "My Favourite Pets" compilation series, which gathers together brilliant bits from the catalogue you may have missed, is essential listening. Volume six is naturally full to bursting with tried-and-tested treats from Catz 'N' Dogz excellent imprint. Highlights are plentiful throughout, of course, but our favourites include Kassian's exclusive rework of recent Catz 'N' Dogs single "Wave" (a bumpin' chunk of peak-time brilliance), the exotic dancefloor hypnotism of Sei A's fine remix of "This Time" by Adam Port and Jennifer Touch, the low-slung sleaze of Jonathan Kaspar's "Cicatrice", the classic West Coast deep house bump of Beesmunt Soundsystem's "Searchin (Borrowed Identity Remix)" and the mid-tempo Balearic house beauty of Kamp's "Azure".

Review: Few Portuguese producers can boast as strong a track record as Trikk, whose high reputation was founded on fine singles for the likes of Optimo Trax, Hypercolour, ManMakeMusic, Lossless, Pets Recordings and, most recently, Innervisions. Here he returns to the latter with his most ambitious project to date: a debut album rich in tribal drums, exotic synthesizer motifs, humid electronics and all manner of global musical influences. Naturally there is a number of bespoke, floor-friendly tech-house and deep house cuts to enjoy, but the album's genius primarily lies in the producer's devotion to mood and melody. There may be plenty of tracks that would sound good in DJ sets, but it also works as an album to listen to from start to finish: something that can rarely be said about house albums.

Review: If it wasn't for artists like Trikk, the Portugese dance scene would not be where it is at the moment. The Porto native has rapidly grown in both skill and fame since his first EP for Man Make Music, back in 2012, and a series of fine EPs for imprint such as Drumcode and Optimo Trax have really helped to solidify his version of house music. This new four-tracker comes courtesy of the mighty Innervisions, and we hear Trikk in a slightly more contained mood than usual, leading with the deep tribalism of "Florista", which falls neatly into the sparse, aquatic house medley called "Veneno". "Mozam" is a fine since of dub-leaning micro-house, propelled into gear by fluttering bleeps, and "Wardance Dub", as the name implies, pushes the boundaries of Trikk's house style into more dubwise territories. A sublime EP from the rising artist of Oporto.

Review: From his native Dusseldorf to his adopted home of Berlin, Alex Niggemann's name is synonymous with the German tech house sound and appearances on a who's who of labels in recent years. From Poker Flat, Last Night On Earth and Tsuba to his own respected Aeon and Soulfooled imprints, he has shown his knack for deep and sexy grooves and his last eight years of DJing and studio prowess is on display for the latest edition of Australia's Balance series of mix compilations. The programming on Balance runs the gamut from deep, dark journey tracks (Gui Boratto "Joker" (Dave DK mix)"/Baikal - "Pelican's Flight"), dreamy hypnotism (Aril Brikha/Sebastian Mullaert - "Illuminate"/Antigone "Blue Note") and some new exclusives from the man himself, such as the mighty slow burner "Divergent". As always, there's a bonus track featuring all the aforementioned on a continuous mix.

Review: Oh my, it's number six in the Patterns series for London's Hypercolour! The previous compilations have all been absolute gold, blending house and bass-heavy clusterbombs like there's no tomorrow, so we're pretty psyched about this latest affair. There's plenty of exciting from all over the sphere on this one, namely some new appearances from Analogue Cop Lucretio and his lovely and soulful "Do It Forever" track; an absolutely cracking house-electro hybrid by Marco Bernardi in the form of "Japanese Firecracker", and a whole load of other bangers by the likes of West Norwood Cassette Library, Canada's Kevin McPhee, Luke Vibert and even Smallville's Christopher Rau!
