Review: Following on from his 2018 Hiatus release, Trommel returns to Sungate with a mini-album inspired by ecological cascades - according to the label, this theme is designed to raise awareness about climate change. It's a noble ambition for a techno record, but "Ecosystem" rises to the challenge thanks to eerie sub-tropical jungle samples combined with a stepping rhythm. Meanwhile, on"Plantae", he descends deeper with atmospheric textures combined with a throbbing low end. "Animalia", with its lone bleeps and linear, acid-soaked rhythm, is more dance floor-focused, while an ominous undercurrent pervades"The Bacteriums" thanks to the use of serrated percussion and ghostly filters. These tracks may paint a bleak future for humanity, but there is also hope here, articulated by the shimmering synths on "Protist Kingdom" and "Eukaryote".
