WZA - "Sweet Feeling" - (4:46) 128 BPM
Adam Kronik - "So Addicted" - (5:24) 128 BPM
Review: Over the years we have seen a number of stars born out of the GS Dubs imprint, the sister label to Garage Shared and a home to many of the brightest new garage names. They have decided to celebrate their fourth year of activity with a truly sumptuous collection, featuring 40 of their most beloved drops over the years. With a track list that features top names such as DJ Jackum, Clarcq, Purple Velvet Curtains, Soulecta, Gemi, Tuff Culture and more, this is a garage DJ's dream supply pack, with the sounds ranging from rampant 4x4 to wiley 2-step originals. As far as compilations go, this is a great example of how to balance the old with the new, with the GS Dubs mantra being to constantly push both types of talent forward with the same energy and expectation, making them a truly wonderful imprint.

Review: There is no doubting the majesty of Garage Shared as an overarching titan of the new school UKG world, with their label operations being among the best in the game right now, a theme amplified and proven further by the pure magnificence of this here compilation. Being the fourth in their self-titled series, they have once again pulled together a seriously vibrant collection of artists from their ranks, unleashing a collection of 30 outstanding garage originals. The cast of this incredible performance is nothing but quality, with the likes of Soulecta, Tuff Culture, WZA, Smokey Bubblin; B, DJ Jackum, Gemi, FooR, DJQ and more all lending their hand. It's such a great way to celebrate the success of the label over the last 3 years, whilst also applauding the garage community as a whole.

Review: December is of course the time of year where every label starts to unleash their final compilation drop of the year, with the Garage Shared crew being actively hailed as one of the country's most valuable UKG platforms. This is reflected in their 2021 catalogue which is explored in great detail across this new compilation, with the likes of Gemi, Tuff Culture, Soulecta, FooR, Bar Li, Oh My Daze, Deja, Smokey Bubblin' B and many more top names all landing killer originals. The full selection features 23 of the label's most popular drops for the year, with some of our particular favourites including the niche-inspired LFO pulses and scattered drum slides of MKJAY's 'Recess', next to the big room chord progressions of WZA's 'Over Me, Over You' and the singalong flavours of Blakk Habit and Gid Swedgewick's sumptuous 'Solid Plan'. Awesome stuff as per!

Review: With the year drawing to a close, there is no doubt in anybody's minds that the Four40 team have put together another spectacular year of content. They have decided to celebrate this with another top notch compilation, with '11 Years Of Four40' exploring some of this year's biggest releases. The company the LP keeps is pretty outstanding, with the likes of Burt Cope, MPH, BWK Project, KASTLE, Jakobin, Papirus, Tuff Culture, Yemi and many many more all getting involved. As always with Four40 however, we have some very specific favourites we want to dive into, first off with Tee Vis & Phoebe Freya's super catchy singalong 'On You' absolutely smashing the charts at the time of its original release. We also can't miss our Royal Flush's fabulous rework of 'Gettin' Your Love' from George IV, WZA's Don't Wanna Give Up' and of course the Hybrid Theory rethink of 'Like You' from Blakk Habit, which to this day still receives reloads in the dances around the country. Another fabulous year for the Four40 crew!

Review: The quality and consistency of the Four40 release schedule over the last couple of years has been near enough unrivalled, especially when it comes to their incredible line of UKG drops. Next up from them we explore some of the best bits of that run. Just looking at the artists involved is enough to get any selector salivating as we see fantastic inclusions from Deadly Habitz, Patrick Kane, Kells, Yemi, Burt Cope, Vital Techniques and so many more. There are a couple on here that have really stood the test of time in our eyes, including the Hybrid Theory remix of Blakk Habit's 'Like You', which has been causing damage in the dances ever since the raves began to reopen. We would also include Joe Burger & Dread MC's wicked collab 'Vibe' in that list of top tier inclusions, alongside George IV's 'Gettin' Your Love' and of course 'Faithful' from BWK Project. More power to the Four40 crew, who continue to impress at every turn.

ADuki - "Make Noise" - (3:34) 129 BPM
Review: The GS Dubs team, being an offshoot of the incredibly consistent Garage Shared collective, are always pumping out exciting new drops, with this new compilation selection being one of the strongest in a hot minute. In anticipation of the clubs and raves reopening properly, they have gathered together ten original dancefloor anthems for garage DJ's the world over to enjoy. The tracklisting and roster is pretty monstrous, featuring tidy new creations from the likes of Tuff Culture, Chimpizm, K9, Deja, Aki and more of the active Garage Shared. There are a couple of real highlights for us, including the super spicy VIP mix of Miss L.A & Bunka's 'My Love', which was already a belter to begin with, alongside the choppy chord progressions and skippy percussive textures of 'Carbon' from Howden and system busting wobbles of ADuki's 'Make Noise'. With additional killer creations from Oh My Daze, Rebz & Ollie Weeks, this is definitely not a compilation to miss.

Vital Techniques - "Don't Let Me Down" - (4:31) 129 BPM
Review: It's always exciting to catch up with the 24hr Garage Girls imprint to see what they have been up to, with this latest drop proving to be a certified gem from the second it landed in our new releases box. They unveil a powerful new collection for their first compilation drop of 2021, including music from heavyweight garage faces such as Champion, MPH, Tuff Culture, Vital Techniques and more, whilst also introducing some of the most exciting new faces in Hans Glader, Oppidan & Zefer. The nine-track selection is seriously impressive, with Shosh's own 'Stick It Up' original proving to be one of the initial highlights, alongside the super colourful melodic slides and scatty drum work of 'Guard The Barrier' from Breaksmiths. Incredible stuff from an incredible team.

Review: Well, when we saw this title land in the store we were as surprised as anyone to see that Four40 Records, one of the most active and exciting UK bass labels across the full breadth of 2020 has just turned 10 years old. This is a pretty outstanding achievement, for a label that is still at the forefront of it's sound to this very day. The compilation of course features some of the biggest releases from across the breadth of Four40's incredible catalogue of content, from the likes of Hybrid Theory, I Killed Kenny, Pavv, Limita and more, condensing ten years of musical progression into one extended tape. We also get to hear a bag of exciting new exclusives from the newer breed of the Four40 roster, including music from The Phat Controlla, Blakk Habit, Lucas Maverick, Gemi, Badger, Patrick Kane, Yozhi, George IV and more. Review: If we were to give an award for label of the year based entirely on consistency, it would be hard to see Four40 not running away with it as they finally round off what has been an untouchable year with one last killer compilation. Royal Flush takes the role of compiler on this one, pulling in some scorchers from the likes of Soulecta, ZeroFG, Jack Junior, Tuff Culture, Earthnut and of course Royal Flush himself. There are a couple of tracks here we feel really hold their own amongst a stacked line up, with Pavv's classic sounding '3210' being one of them, alongside 'Guilty Twitches' from Ozwald and the choppy vibes of 'Love Is Coming' from the legendary EL-B.

Strictly Flava Allstars Vol 1
Sensa - "Let It Go" - (3:43) 129 BPM
Review: There have been few labels that have impressed us at Juno Download more than Strictly Flava this year, primarily due to their incredible levels of consistency. This latest drop is a fantastic way to demonstrate that as they unveil the first of the 'Strictly Flava Allstars' series, with Brenz starting proceedings with a super groovy vocal mashup entitled 'Lingerie Music'. Next, Tuff Culture touches down with a big room roller entitled 'Vibrations', before the colourful melodies of Para's 'Promise' and old school LFO work of Pepe Elle's 'Fresh Pillow' roll out. Finally, we find ourselves with a really original piece as Sensa lays down some refreshing sub work, alongside smart vocal assists on 'Let It Go' to polish this one off with some serious finesse.

Review: We thought it was going to be the case that Four40 kicked up another storm before the year was out, and we have been proven right as we jump into this top notch compilation project, primarily assembled by the UKG legend that is Smokey Bubblin B. We can see this one's quality just by perusing the tracklist, as we see top names such as Mistakay, Kastle, Mind Of A Dragon, Royal Flush and more all make their way onto the project. It in fact covers such a wide range of garage music it is difficult to define simply, from the minimal, skippy designs of Perception's 'You Make', to the more futuristic bass instrumentation and design of Tuff Culture's 'Carbon', with Doctor Nick's inspired remix of 'Mind Slip' by SMOAD being a particular stand out.

Duncan Powell - "Destiny" - (7:02) 127 BPM
Review: As always, it's a real pleasure to see the likes of Four40 hit back with yet another awesome compilation project. Over the years we have been treated to some absolute gems from these guys, a trend which continues as Kastle unveils his specially selected 'Get Right inside' compilation, complete with a full studio mix of the tracks involved. We look through the tracklisting on this one to find awesome pieces from the likes of Exit99, Opus, Duncan Powell and many more high profile names. For us the standouts of this project have to include the high energy collaboration between Jammz & Roska entitled 'Energy & Stamina', along with Witchdoctor's groovy spectacular in 'From The inside'.

For Real - (5:42) 127 BPM
Review: The ever-dependable production prowess of Tuff Culture returns to the infamous Four40 imprint here for three lethal creations, under the title of 'Elements Part 1'. We kick off the party with the laid back, subtle aquatic bass sounds of 'Forte', before twisting the deck right up on the more grizzly sub tones of 'Carbon'. Finally, we finish up this powerful selection with lo-fi creations of 'For Real'. As a composition, this one boasts some highly original designs, focusing more on the quirky, dungeon-esc tastings of the atmospheric bass combos put forward. Excellent stuff!

Time Away EP
DevelopMENT & Tuff Culture - "Harmony" - (6:30) 128 BPM Hot
Review: As a solidified bass music imprint, there's nothing more important than making a good start to the new year. Its safe to say that the responsibility was left in more than capable hands as Development team up with Tuff Culture for a weighty three tracker entitled "Time Away". The collaboration occurs on "Harmony" which is a straight 4x4 skanker, demonstrating very original bass synthesis and crisp drum processing blended with well sampled vocal sprinklings. Following this "Time" is a futuristic 2-step anthem, utilising creative vocal processing over skippy drum arrangements. The EP is then rounded up perfectly with "Away" which combines the themes of both previous, but repackages them for the dance with a classic UK bass breakdown. Fantastic stuff all around on this one!

Feels - (6:15) 129 BPM Hot
Review: No one can contest the fact that Birmingham's Tuff Culture is waving the flag way up high for the Midland's bass connection. Back on Four40, as per regular, the producer launches this new EP with "Feels", a hybrid track that's powered by swinging garage drums and gnarly wobble-step bass. "Glitch" is the virus in the system, a hard-ass bass mutant with some mean snares, while "Movie Script" opts for the jump-up flex thanks to a bouncy cascade of vocal samples and snappy two-step drums. Party weapons, right here!

Review: What an absolute treat from the F2 stable this is! The courageous label has taken it upon itself to keep releasing puristic garage in an era where genres are bbeing blurred like Saturday night cocktails, and it really is a great thing to have someone carrying on the UK's seminal tradition along the hardcore continuum. This is the first volume of their F2 comps, and features a whol load of break-ready, gun-toting individuals wishing to inject some class into modern house. Inside, you'll find some absolute bangers for peeps like Champion, Tuff Culture, Deadbeat - who comes through with some twisted two-step - and Pharaoh K, among the many fresh faces on here. SICK!

Review: Last spotted edifying the masses on Four40 last summer, Tuff Culture returns with four more unique blends. As with previous releases, his balance of shades, musicality and production dynamics is precision: "Easy" rolls with a tightly-plucked guitar riff before pushing you deep into the warped-bass sludge, "Lust" takes big early 90s synth hooks and a diva vocal and wraps them around a bassline that, in any other context, would be pretty harrowed while "Not Alone" does a similar meltdown with a piano hook and more of a jacking 4x4 bassline chug. Each cut really bringing fresh influences together, Tuff Culture's got a sound like no other right now.

Review: Midlands bass hero Tuff Culture likes to challenge the expectations of what the genre should sound like, and for his latest missive he's looked to 1980s cop show Miami vice for inspiration. However he's stayed with a very UK sound for the EP. The title track marries Ocean Drive synth pads and bleepy melodies with a bit of rough edged bass. "Need Me" is messy UKG with punchy snares and cut-up loops and "Wanna Be' ends with a hard and heavy 4 x 4 slammer. Moony also appears to give the title track a deliciously deep 2-step makeover too.

Take Me/I Don't Care
Take Me - (6:44) 125 BPM Hot
I Don't Care - (6:32) 126 BPM
Review: From Four40 to Project Allout, UK bass scientist Tuff Culture has shown us many sides of his artistic persona. If we want to keep things topline, this guy can make just about any form of UK dance music; he's given us dubstep, a little trap, some house, and now two new garage-leaning joints. "Take Me" is deep and pensive, but once the main hook drops it's an infectious drum affair with a growling, penetrative bassline. "I Don't Care" is a more typical garage tune because of its twisted, dusty drum pattern, but the sounds within are anything but what you'd normally expect from a 90's garage track. Wait for that switch, too.

Review: Midland's bass troubadour Tuff Culture recently explored his feminine side with the recent emotional Solar/Desire release. Now he's back with "Edification" and although he has returned somewhat to his 'tuffer' side, he has retained some of the softer, melodic touches he learned along the way. "Asia" begins proceedings with a fluffy 4 x 4 bounce, with quirky melodic interludes and raw ragga vocals. Next, "Midnight Safari" is just that - all dark, nocturnal jungle percussion and spooky breaks. Lastly "Tell Me", is smooth and moody bass with choppy hi-hats and all kinds of synthy atmospherics. Top drawer tunes!

Desire - (6:00) 125 BPM Hot
Review: Midlands bass hero Tuff Culture doesn't normally show his feminine side. Having taken ages off to perhaps contemplate this issue, he's now returned with this emotional new two-track jam. "Solar" features cascading, flowery sonics, with smoky late night harmonies and velvety smooth orchestration. "Desire", meanwhile, sees him toughen up his act somewhat, adjusting his collar and knuckling down to produce some harder garagey beats. Before you know it, the menacing future step bass mangling kicks in and it's business as usual. Two different takes on bass from a top producer.

To celebrate they're put together this immense 54 track collection that represents the label's many sounds and successes. From Regality's deep Chicago inspired chugger "Celebrate" to Morcee's subtle speed garage swag "It's You", Hybrid Theory's atonal bass grunts and happy slap snares on "Mind Games" and Tom Shorterz subverted soul on "Wot U Do", Four40 cover all bass bases and provide an opportunity to fill any holes in your collection. This time he's rustled up three more sizzling takes on all things bass. "Destiny" kicks things off by fusing piano house with gritty basement 4/4 beats, and "Questions' sees blissed-out synths blended with urban vocal samples and intricate orchestration. "It Could Be" treads a fine line between sexy and sassy with its polished keys and honeyed vocal sample and utter filth with its growling bassline. Review: Thirty Three nuggets of serious UKG gullyness; Project Allout have already developed a serious reputation for generous dispatches, but this is whole new level. Uniting their many lengmen for a deep exploration of the pastures between bassline house, instrumental grime and the broader realms of bass music, every area is covered. Highlights include the eski angst of Chemist RNS' "Stare", the violin-snapping, post-dubstep darkness of Deadbeat UK's "Graveyard", the outrageous VIP muscles of Hoax and Dubzta's "Twilight Zone" and the sassy vocal flexery of Pavv's "You Got Me". This is just the tip of the bassline iceberg, though. Dig deep and grab your own lenger; there are enough here for everyone.

Review: Hot on the heels of "Artillery" on Four40, Birmingham bass-buster Tuff Culture delivers an equally dark and distinctive cut on Project Allout. A strutting 4/4 garage joint coded with sacks of space and slinky subs, it utilises gangster-style synth horns with a subtle funk effect. Remix-wise Enigma Dubz takes us back to the dubstep source where those horns sounds even more aggy and dramatic while Dr Cryptic lets rip with a firing, uptempo 4/4 cut that sits somewhere between bassline house and juke. Hench heaven.
