Review: Ring the remix alarm! Tyke digs deep into his vaults and sends for two of the most exciting new-gen producers to remix some of his classic b-side cuts from two of his biggest releases on Grid back in the early 2010s. First is young Norwich-based Amplify who takes on 'The Track That Dripped Blood'. Famously the flipside track of Tyke's massive 'Drug Pusher', here Amplify switches the grit for more of a warm squelchy vibe while maintaining the original's creepiness and suspense. Elsewhere we see young Newcastle artist Hexa taking on Tyke's 'Buzzards' b-side 'THX Dub'. Once again retaining the brute strength of the original (mainly via those badass mentasms) Hexa adds a whole new rolling vibe bringing the tune bang up to date with the future. Bloody marvellous.

Review: Playaz are rounding out this year with their first compilation for quite some time, and their 2020 roundup relies on a fairly small handful of long-term label stalwarts across twenty tracks. In this case, less is more and the likes of Annix, Taxman, DJ Hybrid and Tyke all come seriously correct in this compilation, their collective decades of experience really shining through. Taxman's 'You Can't See' is absurdly good, with wonderfully stuttering breaks which emerge from shimmering synth lines before cutting into a raucously stabbing bass hits, a proper rowdy collection of sounds which get right to the heart of the Playaz sound. Bristol trio The Sauce pop up on the label with several contributions, including 'Spooked', an eerie roller with choppiness right at its core - big stuff from the crew.

Review: Question: When will Tyke stand for prime minister and how can we vote for him? We'd all be in a lot safer hands if this graf artist-turned-Playaz premiership player ruled the UK. Anyone who can make sounds so grotty, weird and head-bending like the swampy bass gurgles on "They Must Come" and the 1.21 gigawatt electric riff on "Cosmos" has exorcised enough demons to be a level-headed, thoughtful person, right? Review: So Tyke has been doing his thing for Playaz for some time now and it's still blowing minds everywhere. What is it he's got that keeps his tunes sounding so fresh? For starters, his blend of high energy D&B might have that jump-up sound but it's by no means stuck on the genre ring road. Review: Tyke has been chucking his lairy layered sounds around the Playaz camp for a good couple of years now, and with each release he's getting more razor sharp, darker and more dangerous. Working together with the label's Russian contingent, the high-energy master that is Alexander Petrov aka Prestige, what results from the collision is a blend of deep, dubby bass that reaches jungle influences in "You Don't Have To Go" and dark, techy horror in "Bloody Mess". With snuff film samples strewn throughout and gruesome tales to tell, this isn't your average pumped-up D&B release. Pick it up and get inspired - just don't blame us if you get nightmares.

Review: London graffiti artist and drum & bass madman Tyke pushes harder and faster with his latest release on Playaz. Playing with jazz, hip hop and messed-up b-movie samples between bashed-about jump up and jungle breaks. A mesh of smooth and gritty, wild and deep, there probably hasn't been a more fitting title for an EP this year. Switching from his trademark bouncy basslines with Prestige in "Shatter the Sentence" to the sci-fi horror of "Oblong" and "Dogs", if it's dark and dirty you want, you've come to the right place.

Review: That little tyke, Tyke, steps up for another exceedingly naughty release on Twisted Individual's Grid Recordings. First of all is the excellently entitled "Infected Headphones" with its scurrying synths, tongue-in-cheek faux newsreader sample, bass burps and wobbles and grizzled synths adding a good dose of the Heist factor. "Abominable Vibes" is another rambunctious venture with industrial soundscape, buzzing synths, ominous vocal samples and punishing drums. This one's not for the faint hearted, beware cowards!
