Review: Veteran producer Ben Tyrone makes his debut on Amsterdam's The North Quarter with Hurt Index, which the Newcastle native recorded over a two year period and he challenged himself to step out of his comfort zone. Tyrone explains 'the entire process has in a way been very cathartic, sort of like a spring clean for the brain.' From the high-tech neurofunk of "Come Closer" and "Untitled Matrix", to the intelligent drum and bass roller "City Lights" and ending with the emotive steppa "Misconceptions" - here's a bespoke six track statement of where this talented producer is at right now.

Tyrone & Jubei - "Broon Sauce" - (5:38) 173 BPM Hot
Review: Jubei's new label Carbon Music continues to flourish as it hits release three, this time from good friend and occasional collaborator Tyrone. Three tracks deep, each one bringing a different spice, 'Repentance' is a timeless dubby workout with slamming breaks and heavily textured reggae washes in the background. 'Odyssey', meanwhile, wryly nods it head at Marcus's influence with a rising, euphoric vibe while Jubei joins the gang for the almighty hurricane-like closer 'Broon Sauce'. Big toons.

The Disciple/OG's
The Disciple - (5:56) 173 BPM Hot
OG's - (5:34) 173 BPM
Review: Guidance has rapidly become a must-follow imprint ever since its launch by Ulterior Motive, and Tyrone has taken to it like a duck to water. This single is his second release on the label and The Disciple/OG's maintains the high standard we've come to expect from the Newcastle-based producer. It's rough and tumble rolling goodness, and 'The Disciple' represents this mission statement with devastating clarity, as resonant synths give way to penetrating percussion and a growling, tendril-like bassline. 'OG's' has a wicked old-school vibe to drum line but it's bassline is as futuristic as they come; vicious chops sweeping left and right with a visceral sense of movement. Potent, potent stuff.

Review: Fire in the hole! Following his Metalheadz EP earlier this year, Newcastle's Tyrone steps over to good mates Ulterior Motive at Guidance for a full four-track slab of D&B excellence. The title track is an absolute beast that slices through the air and space with incredible weight and width while elsewhere "Beg Of U" takes us on a tour of Tyrone's deeper space-aged side, "Lost Witness" rolls out with rattling menace and muscle and "Velvet" (with Ulterior Motive) closes the deal on a deep introspective one. Prepare to be severed.

Review: Fresh from collaborating with Ulterior Motive and Jubei, Tyrone steps up with his first full solo EP for the label and it's yet another level up. Four hurricanes compounded in tune form, "Lunar City" rips the floor from beneath you with its booming sub and Marcus-esque raising sense of tension, "Heaton Dramaz" takes the technoid turbine factor to a whole new hair-raising level while "Warriors" kicks hard with a soundsystem vibe that hits all the spots Digital does. Finally "Eyes" close the EP with some soul-shattering breaks and a humanised textures from the stars. Massive.

Review: Fresh from tearing Sun And Bass a new one, the mighty Jubei and his fast rising mate Tyrone step up to Headz with their first collaborative EP and it's business from the moment that evangelistic intro opens on "Stabs". Elsewhere we're whisked into a swirl of synths and textures on the rising, sweeping dreamer "Avalon", we're pummelled into submission by killer droned out horns on apocalyptic damager "The Saboteur" before being crushed by incredible breakbeat craftmanship on the Blue Note primed "Hoppers Theme". Just plain insane; yet another crucial EP from Headz this year.

Review: As a label, Yosh has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, bringing together some of the bass scenes most exciting artists on both compilations and single releases. Here they team up with the wise owls of Tengu to put together a powerhouse tracklisting, bringing in a host of new faces such as KXVU, Movement, Pavv, J69 and. R3DX, as well as bringing back some of their favourite regulars. For us the stand outs have to include Kyle Riot's emotive bass belter in 'Through My Eyes' which combines electronically processed vocal stabs with shimmering bass textures. Another highlight would have to be Mofaux's 'Soldier' composition, which combines skippy drum rhythms with a grinding LFO and more catchy vocal stabs. Excellent stuff.

Review: After the success of his debut release 'Ravin Face' It was only a matter of time before Tyrone joined up with Southampton's own 'YosH' for a follow up release. That he does wit this new EP in collaboration with Kier. This release features two original creations, the first of which is a straight bassline roller entitled 'Tell Em Again'. The second track is a more crack house inspired instrumental, again featuring vibrant dancefloor inspired vocals from both Tyrone and Kier. It's no secret that there is a distinct lack of MC's in a bassline scene crowded with thousands of keen new producers, so this is certainly a positive step as a release.

Review: Bass seems to be in Tyrone's blood, with his elder brother 'Dennis G' featuring on the Wide Boys garage classic 'Sambuca'. Southampton imprint YosH picked up Tyrone while he was touring clubs with the original of 'Ravin' Face' down South and they clearly like it because we've ended up with an EP with six remixes of it! Moving through the motions of UKG and bassline with a bouncy happy edit from Shapes into a darker realm from Tengu. Mofaux comes with a steppy house version, but one thing they all have in common is they all, rather repetitively, ask us to show them our Ravin Face.

Review: The YosH imprint clearly likes to partake in a bit of UK bass experimentation, and its selection of artists have all been handpicked for their ability to slot into the label's catalogue with utter ease. This is Tyrone, a multi-talented electronic producer who is as good at making garage as he is disco or techno, and "Ravin Face" is direct evidence of an artist who understands UK bass music through and through; there is everything from dubstep to house in its groove, and the tune's inimitable vocal hook will have you humming in no time. "Reload", on the other hand, is more of a classic garage lick except for its deadly succession of bass knives circling the groove with a touch of evil will. This is some straight-up nasty material. Bang.

The Jackal
The Jackal - (5:29) 174 BPM
Tyrone - "Behemoth" - (6:42) Hot
Played by: Presha
Review: Kodo and Tyrone collaborate in part one of this single on Psylence's Ingredients Recordings. "The Jackal" builds from an eerie, cinematic intro, with tense, hissing hi-hats, faded out SFX, and drops suddenly with a vocal calling "I need you", and develops into an inky black bass-driven beast with thunderous subs and tense, ticking beats. "Behemoth" sees Tyrone ride solo for an equally as excellent venture, again full of maintained tension and growling bass warps, but with even more menace and aggression. A top notch release right here.
