Review: Glasgow's Shaka Loves You has rightly earned a reputation as disco-centric duo on the rise. Because of this, it's little surprise to see them at the controls on Bomb Strikes' first foray into the disco-focused compilation market. The Scottish pair have naturally pulled out all the stops for the occasion, selecting 20 hot-to-trot cuts that aptly blur the boundaries between disco, funk, nu-disco, electro and boogie. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, the hazy, sun-kissed soul of Lack of Afro's "Back To The Day", the thickset P-funk revivalism of Kraak & Smaak's "Dynamite" and the rubbery disco-house-meets-UK soul flex of the Reflex's remix of Omar's "Vicky's Tune". Throw in a tasty selection of the pair's productions and you have a suitably strong collection.

Review: Soulab don't do things in half measures, and here they've served up a full pint of something that promises a lot: eternal youth. Yep, it's a pretty tall claim, but before we get all Dorian Grey on ourselves it's probably best to out the title into context - we're pretty sure they just mean that house music never gets old. All the regular cast are back, serving up some sizzlers, highlights of which include Dan Electro's deep, gospel-tinged opener "Look Around", UFE's jazzy cocktail house anthem "Nothings Gonna Stop Us Now" and Giuseppe Storniolo's ice-cool electro-acid gem, "Miami Vibes".

Review: French funk fanatics Soulab Records released the first instalment of this comp series back in March. Since then we've been doing some serious cold soul turkey, so we're ecstatic to have a new instalment. Again they've kept it in the musical family with all their regular artists present and correct. There's disco funk from Uptown Funk Empire, some familiar retro grooves from Slow Motion Replay and acoustic realness from Weeland & The Urban Soul Collective.

Review: Despite being better known for their dedication to modern soul, hip-hop soul and revivalist boogie, French label Soulab does a neat sideline in deep, woozy, soulful, off-kilter house. They've previously showcased this side of their output on two volumes of the House Elixirs series; here they present a third instalment. Predictably, it's packed with notable, leftfield house fare, from the dreamy broken beat of Isaac Aesili ("Can I B") and afrobeat/nu-disco/deep house fusion of Uraz Kurt, to the Balearic bliss of Pete Herbert's remix of Los Charly's Orchestra, and delicious jazz-house-garage of Giuseppe Storniolo's excellent "Javelin". Best of all, though, is Uraz Kurt's vibraphone-laden rework of Uptown Funk Empire's cover of Pharaoh Sanders' classic "You've Got To Have Freedom".

Review: French label Soulab are always bestowing us with some variant of funk and in some guise or other, not least with their plethora of excellent compilations. However, we haven't had an installment in this particular series for a year and a half. Thankfully that's now been addressed and a whole host of label regulars like Uraz Kurt, Dan Electro, Slow Motion Replay and Uptown Funk Empire have all contributed more mellow productions from their vaults to Volume 3.

Review: Given that Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart is a past master at creating warm, comfy floor-friendly cuts that blend original instruments with deep house textures, it's a little unsurprising that "Boogie" is a bit of a gem. First released in 2008, it's very reminiscent of his Patchworks material (think live bass, guitars, vocals, flutes, snappy beats and classic deep house organs), which in our eyes is no bad thing. This reissue features a stonking eight different remixes, most of which follow a similar approach. If we had to pick favourites, we'd recommend Uruaz Kurt's lounge-friendly Mellow Mellow Mix, the urgent house hustle of the SOS Remix, and the pitched-up disco-house madness of the Teemit Re-Edit.

Review: We can always rely on French funkateers Soulab to keep us supplied with regular selections of vintage sounding modern soul gems. This latest compilation features a host of their regular artists and once again the quality is up there. Highlights include the futuristic electro-funk of LA Mitchell's "The Ease", the hazy g-funk vibes of Uraz Kurt's "Remember The Light", the dark, broken electro-hop of Isaac Aesili's "Freedom Cry" and the crazy garage boogie shuffle of Proser & Azaxx's "Prince Is Not Dead".

Review: France's Soulab Records are back with yet another compilation of soul-heavy grooves, and considering that these types of comps are exactly what they do best, it ain't no bad thing either. All the usual label affiliated suspects are here and over the course of the 13-strong tracklist we get acoustic ragtime (Weeland & The Urban Soul Collective's "Josephine's Lament"), retro 60s organ wig-outs (Slow Motion Replay's "Ragged Mustang"), barbershop harmonising (Allen Hoist's "The Closer I Get To You") and raw, thundering gospel (Dan Electro's "Let Them Come").

Review: France's Soulab label is largely known for it's jazzy, soulful sounds. Here though, it's all about the lazy, hazy sounds of the 70s & 80s. Over 13 tracks we get taken on an analogue party heavily indebted to the likes of Roger Troutman & Shalamar. The mellow g-funk of Uptown Funk Empire's "Take You Out" starts things lying down, before the electro-soul of Fatback 4Way's "Sweet Summer Daze" livens things up. From then on we get classic boogie (Cool Million "Lift Me Up") , retro pop (Confection "Lift Me Up") and even flute-core (Uptown Funk Empire "Boogie").

Review: Lyons' Uptown Funk Empire made a splash a year or two ago with groove-packed album, The Empire Strikes Back. Now here's the accompanying long player, literally bursting with remixes of a selection of cuts. "Now" gets reworked as piano-soul by Uraz Kurt, as avant garde funk by Staro75 and straight up disco-house by Patchworks. The Gemini Bros give "Boogie" a flute-heavy makeover, while Moto take it in and electro-house direction. "No One's Gonna Stop Us Now" gets turned into Jamiroquai by Uraz Kurt and skippy funk-house by The Gemini Bros. Also "You've Got To Have Freedom" gets some retro Tijuana Brass stylings by Patchworks.
