Review: Once again, the System Music crew have touched down with the dubstep flame alive and well, welcoming the innovative production mind of V.I.V.E.K to the table for a fiery three track display. First up, the title track 'U Dub' delivers a spatial exploration through floating synthetic soundscapes and moody sub textures, followed closely by the more creeping sounds and clunky sub stutters of 'Voices'. The atmosphere continues to expand as we then roll into a highly memorable finale, as the grizzly LFO squelches and hypnotic synthesiser slides of '108' give us a vibey finale.
Review: It's always a pleasure to see new Vivek hit the shelves, as the hugely innovative and experimental producer returns to the ever-ready System Music imprint with a fantastic new dubwise two track selection. The A-side is exactly what we love to here from Vivek, as he joins forces with the soulful, conscious vocal chants and flows of Dego Ranking on 'Different Sound', a smooth dubby roller stuffed with spacey delays and potent sub pressure. On the flip we hear Vivek explore more unusual ground with a colourful, flutey arrangement he names 'Galactic', which comes dripping in organic percussive energies and floating bubbly synth warps, providing a wicked contrast to the A-side. Vivek has done it again!
Review: Let's just list the amount of stone cold bass OGs on this collection: Krust, dBridge, Om Unit, Danny Scrilla, V.I.V.E.K, Von D, Moresounds, AU, Oris Jay & Chris Innersound and whole load more of soundsystem culture's most innovative craftsman working at the deepest levels of the low end coalface all feature on this immense and forward thinking document. Including the curator Amit himself. Every track is a highlight, each one and abyssal, immersive experience but essential highlights include the toxic bass bounces of Moresounds' "They Can't Handle It", the 23rd century UKG of Oris and Chris's "They Can't Handle It" and Krust's big screen masterpiece "Escape From Finland". Amit deserves a holiday. Or a massive trophy. Or both. Bass compilations don't get much bigger than this.
