Review: Since emerging in the late 2000s, Jonathan Braverman AKA Ladies On Mars has not only delivered tons of tasty original EPs, but also countless quality remixes. Here he takes a second trawl through his 'remixography', offering up seven more catalogue highlights. There's a swathe of re-rubs of tracks by Dennis Jones, including a suitably joyous nu-disco 'extended remix' of his 'Celebration' cover, an Italo-disco-meets-disco-funk 'Club Dub' of 'I Was Made For Dancing', and a deliciously detailed and sun-splashed extended rework of 'Fireworks'. Elsewhere, the Argentina-based producer delivers a wonderfully low-slung, Bobby Orlando-influenced nu-disco tweak of Jimmy Brixton's 'Bowie On Mars', and joins the dots between Italo-disco and 'French Touch' disco-house on an energetic revision of 'Get Up Girl' by Vilanis.

Review: For us, there is no denying that N-Type's legendary Wheel & Deal imprint has become one of the true benchmarks for quality within dubstep, celebrating their 100th official release with a face melting compilation. Featuring an array of top class guests, including Solidstates & Riko Dan, Roklem & Sebalo, Sepia, Lost, Grawinkel and more, this jumps straight into the top dubstep drops of the year category for us. With so many heavy hitting originals featured across this 22 track landscape, it's hard to pick our highlights, but the sumptuous sub & drift work of Kampah's 'Ryder' and the system-smashing bass notation of 'Chained' from Azotix would be the two immediate front runners. Congratulations to N Type and all involved on such an awesome achievement.

Review: KR celebrates its fifth birthday with this diverse techno compilation. KR050 gets off to a frenetic start with Clotur's "M33, a peak-time track that resonates to building acid and a firing, angular rhythm. Similar energy levels also fuel the grainy techno of Joton's "Cyber Machinery" and Roll Dann's contribution - the chord-heavy banger that is "Suga Nit White". But it's not all peak-time tracks. Benales looks to Detroit for inspiration to deliver the raw minimalism of "Undo", while a more contemporary take on stripped back dance music prevails on the murky "Lost In The Loop" by KUSS. And Metapattern's "25 Min" is a distinctive, ebm-inspired jam.

Review: Blank Mind Recordings, based in London, has tapped into the significance of a particular strand of jungle and breakbeat hardcore music prevalent during the period of 1991-1994. Their latest compilation showcases eight tracks characterized by dense atmospheric breaks, featuring artists such as DJ Mayhem, Luxury, and Skanna from that era. The standout track, 'Inesse' by Mayhem, serves as the focal point around which the compilation is curated. Against the backdrop of a tumultuous political climate, notably marked by the passage of the stringent anti-rave Criminal Justice Act in 1994, this record and its pulsating compositions take on a renewed significance, reframed within a context of resistance and social justice.

Burnin Tears - "Permanent Midnite" (feat Georges Perin - Local Suicide remix) - (4:35) 108 BPM
Review: Two years ago, Luv Shack celebrated turning ten with the release of 'Retroscope', a killer collection of reworks of classic cuts from the catalogue. This sequel repeats the formula, delivering five more fresh revisions of Luv Shack classics. Polish cosmic disco superhero Das Komplex steps up first with a typically trippy, dubbed-flecked nu-disco take on Jakobin's 'See Me Through', before Rosa Red reaches for psychedelic TB-303 lines and hot-stepping beats on a pitched-up revision of 'If You' by Ken Hayakawa and Lee Stevens. The latter's LeSale hook-up 'LuvSick' is then re-imagined as a dark Italo throbber by Tomasz Guiddo. To round things off, Stevens joins forces with Local Suicide on an Italo-meets-deep synth-pop revision of Burnin' Tears' 'Permanent Midnite' before Local Suicide delivers a moodier and sleazier solo take on the same track.

Yrsen - "Sonic Encounters" - (5:39) 136 BPM
End Train & UNS+ - "ODE" - (6:11) 141 BPM
Review: The Exhibit series aims to showcase emerging artists who operate at the raw end of the techno spectrum. While not a new act, label owners Slam get the ball rolling with their own "Exhibit 3", which revisits the raw, jacking sound of their Snapshots release. EJA's "Detachment Theory" represents a more contemporary take on underground techno. Led by a pumping, heads-down groove and relentless, doubled-up claps, it also features mysterious synth builds. Similarly atmospheric sounds inhabit Skjöld's "Stearic Acid" - but on this occasion, they are woven into a stripped back, percussive groove. Favouring a more abrasive direction, ANNĒ's "Keinlicht" revolves around a visceral rhythm and ominous synth lines, echoing vintage Steve Bicknell.

Tommy Lee Bones - "Stalker Blocker" (original mix) - (3:12) 132 BPM
Review: The Dirty Rave Kitchen crew have pulled together a very tasty box of treats with this latest compilation drop as the second edition of their 'UNIVERSAL BREAKS' series sees them unleash naught but havoc. Featuring fifteen fiery originals and the likes of ALT SHIFT, SKIN TEETH, WeZ WhaTevR, Afghan Headspin and more, this is definitely a collection we would recommend taking in across a long form listening format. However, if we were to unleash our highlights, the pure ferocity of Paul Bassrock & WoTeR's 'In A World Where Music Had No Future', the abstract melodic pulses of 'OnDaMike's 'The Hills' and the glitching synthetic befuddlement of Tommy Lee Bones's 'Stalker Blocker' would be our primary jump outs.

OFF & GRID - "Inner City Blues" - (5:30) 145 BPM Hot
Rove Ranger - "Onakum" - (3:53) 144 BPM
Review: Planet Rhythm continues its commitment to supporting new artists on this fine split release. Shabaam & Aladarus kick-start the EP with "Colossal", their debut for the label. Led by surging chords and tight percussive bursts, it lives up to its title. Lenny San's "Orbital" follows in a similar vein, albeit with a more intense take, as chords bluster and build over tough kicks and insistent hi hats. OFF / GRID, who has become a regular artist on Planet Rhythm, fuses tight percussion and steely drums with a looped synth on "Inner City Blues". Maintaining this tough but musical theme, Rove Ranger's "Onakum" integrates vocal snatches with hissing hi hats and dubby stabs.

Review: Back in the 00s, Mathias 'Munk' Modica and Jonas 'Telonius' Imbery's Gomma label was at the forefront of the punk-funk and indie-dance scene. Imbery later stepped away and Munk shuttered the label in 2016 to concentrate on his new venture Toy Tonics, but now he's taking time to revisit former glories with this second collection of cuts from the Gomma vaults. The timing's probably right: with clubbing's Nag Nag Nag generation now hitting 40, the retro/nostalgia bandwagon was bound to get around to the 00s eventually, and while certain tracks here may be a bit too redolent of asymmetrical haircuts and scarves worn indoors for some, the set also undoubtedly includes some fine nuggets that deserve exposure to a new generation, notably Mercury's rather lovely 'Sweetness' and Munk's own James Murphy collab 'Kick Out The Chairs'.

Review: Midnight Riot do their bit to address the much-discussed gender imbalance in dance music with a 25-track collection featuring an almost entirely female line-up (though a few possessors of Y-chromosomes do sneak in as collaborators). With big names like Kathy Brown, DJ Paulette, Rowetta, Caron Wheeler, Sulene Fleming and Natasha Kitty Katt nestling up alongside a host of more up-and-coming artists, the quality standard is high throughout, with the musical emphasis largely on good-time, Saturday night house and disco vibes, though there a few more gently paced moments - notably in the form of covers of Bobby Caldwell's 'What You Won't Do For Love' and Sade's 'Sweetest Taboo' - while Paulette & Massey serve up a pleasing dose of acid on 'Sheroes'.

Review: Reel People Music's annual Soulful, Deep & Dope compilations always deliver exactly what the title promises, namely club-focused jams of the most positive, musically expansive and spiritually enriching kind. This year's edition is a particularly potent collection, with 20 tried-and-tested tracks to devour. Highlights are naturally plentiful, from the tech-tinged deep house soulfulness of Mark Francis's remix of Opolopo and Angela Johnson's 'Stay This Way', and Glenn Underground's wonderfully musically expansive revision of Harold Matthews Jr and Sean McCabe's 'This Place', to the sunset-ready wonder of Matthew Brandy's 'Wish' (featuring an impeccable vocal performance by Josh Milan) and the soulful deep house brilliance of Atjazz and Shea Soul's inspired 'Home'.

Review: Based in Italy, Micky More and Andy Tee's Groove Culture label have been flying the flag for soulful house, contemporary disco and disco-house since 2017. Now here comes a second compilation of Instrumental mixes from their illustrious back catalogue, which follows on the heels of Vol 1, released back in 2022. The label bosses themselves contribute three of the album's 20 tracks, with the likes of Ron Carroll, Kathy Brown, Mr A.L.I, Da Lukas and Dutchican Soul also featuring alongside a wealth of more underground names. Expect rolling beats, fat funk basslines, sweeping, surging strings and handclaps galore, with highlights for this reviewer including Martina Budde & Husky's organ-rollicking 'Open Up Your Mind', Dutchican Soul's 'You Bring Joy' and More & Tee's own 'So Wide Open'.

Review: In keeping with the approach of its predecessors, the fourth annual Boogie Angst compilation brings together "cool cuts" from the past year and a smattering of exclusives and previously unreleased gems. As you'd expect from a label helmed by Kraak & Smaak, it's a genuinely joyous and celebratory affair, packed to the rafters with party-starting workouts. For proof, check the revivalist disco-boogie cheeriness of Titeknots' 'Feels Good 2 Me', the future soul shuffle of 'Treat U Good' by Moods, Noah Slee, Lyriya & Meron, the summery electrofunk sunshine that is Art of Tones' kaleidoscopic rework of LUXXURY's 'Just Like It Was Before', the Rhodes-laden warmth of Kraak & Smaak's nostalgic 'All I Need' and the spiritually-enriching Latin deep house shuffle of Osunlade's Yoruba Soul rework of his Casbah 73 collaboration, 'Let's Invade The Amazon'.

Review: Since their label inception back in 2018, the team over at Wisdom Teeth have done a great job at both cultivating and innovative forward thinking electronic music, with their roster featuring a number of true veterans of the game. This latest compilation takes the title 'Club Moss' and sees them assemble 14 fiery original creations, featuring the likes of Facta, K-Lone, Maya Q, LUXE, Purelink and more, all of whomst deliver naught but quality in their chosen creations. For us, despite this being a longer project, there are two clear standout recordings, the first of which is of course Cousin's atmospheric drifter in 'Tooth 4 Tooth' which gives us a spacious, exploratory feel. Alongside this, the moogy sub bounces of Tammo Hesselink's 'Cupboard Cylinder Salon' original also tops the list for us, showcasing the variation of styles that sits within the Wisdom Teeth camp.

Review: Nu Groove Records delivers another gem with "Nu Groove Edits, Vol. 4," a compilation that breathes new life into classic tracks from the label's illustrious history. This release spotlights the artists who shaped the legendary NYC label, offering re-interpretations by leading selectors of today. It kicks off with "Tonight's The Night" by NYC favorites How & Little (The Sound Vandals), given a fresh treatment by Italian duo NiCe7. The track retains its original charm while incorporating contemporary production elements, setting the tone for the rest of the journey. N.Y. House'n Authority's seminal "APT. 2A" gets reworked by UK deep tech aficionado Hugo Massien, resulting in a deeper, more introspective version that retains the groove of the original. The collection also features a remix of The Utopia Project's "File #3" by Mak & Pasteman, showcasing their signature blend of soulful vocals and driving basslines. Then it closes with a bang with the duo Honey Dijon & Luke Solomon re-imagining A.B.T.'s "Luv 2 Luv U." Their edit infuses the track with irresistible energy, making it a guaranteed dance floor mover.

Review: There's a hint in the title here, as theBasement Discos serve up a collection of 20 house tracks with the ivories firmly front and centre. But while the old Joanna might be the thread that ties it all together, there's still plenty of variety on offer, from sprightly jazz-house workouts like AFAMoo's 'The Art Of Jazz' to deep house jams like A Naranjo's 'What Lies To Head' and Foot-Loose's 'Weekend'-biting disco-houser 'LA Piano Mood'. It's not all nostalgic homages to the hands-in-the-air anthems of the early 90s, in other words - though naturally there are plenty of those as well, with Piem's '4Real' one clear standout in that department. Of course, if you're not a fan of piano-based house, it's probably not the album for you... otherwise the 'Paradise' part of the title is entirely justified, nuff said!

Review: The eighth instalment of Cocoon's Dots And Pearls compilation series starts on a light note. JOSS' "Assessing" is a melodic techno track powered by cascading snares and swirling pads. In a similar style is Emanuel Satie's "When I First Met You (I Knew You Were The One)", where angelic voices and soaring strings make for an uplifting track. There's an edgier sensibility on Denis Horvat & Skarn's chugging "Triii", reflected also on Aocram & Ramsey Neville's acid-led "Brooklyn Structure".
The mood continues to darken with the EBM influences of Alex Bau's grinding "Antidot", while the ever-reliable Redshape resurfaces with the pulsating "Ghost Story". But it's only a temporary situation and Harald Bjork's "Aluco" rounds off the release with an ominous tranced-out track.

Review: This time around from Bait, we have a very tidy collection indeed as four heavyweight names touch down as part of the 'Baby Steps VEP' collection. We open up with the dubwise influences and marching drum lines of 'Late Steps' from Quasar, a fiery introduction packing a super subby punch, before Orchid then unloads a crunching roller in 'Burning Steppes', again upping the energy levels. From here, Moriiiis J arrives with a more minimal set up on 'I.A.F.G', a smokey slink through unique atmospherics and drum ideas, with Agon & Celine B then teaming up on 'Drifted' to give us a jittering, glitter-fueled finale, rounding off this unique collection with some real panashe.

Review: The latest compilation on Soma's offshoot label Avoidant explores compelling variants of the electro sound. DJ T-1000's "Three One Three" starts the collection in atmospheric mode. Featuring steely percussive crackles and robotic vocals, it is reminiscent of fellow Detroit producer Juan Atkins' Model 500 project. NiKiT's "Ice Wave" inhabits a similar territory as a powerful sub-bass underpins crystalline synths. Mechanoreceptor's "Invisible Dynamics" delivers a bass-heavy groove and ELEKTROTECHNIK serves up a dystopian vision of the sound on the chilling, Rother-esque "Parasit". The compilation veers closer to conventional 4/4 tracks thanks to the industrial-fuelled electro-techno of Bloody Mary's "Surrender". Overall though, the focus on Planet Reborn is electro's more esoteric forms, as DJ Astrobee's ERP-sounding "Synccc" so wonderfully demonstrates.

Review: Heavyweight new-gen repping: BoujeeBass chomp down into 2024 with a walloping VA feast from family and friends. As with previous BoujeeBass dispatches, the vibe is firmly set on the heart of the dancefloor with big bassline energy and wig-scorching breaks from a roll call of future headliners. Highlights include the twist laser-bending funk of Azule & Shifu's 'Screw Loose', the head-turning shuffle and shake of Entei's totally unique 'Confusion', R!PT!DE's fully nutty rave twister 'Ring Ring' and the cheeky funk of Jenks's 'Rumble'. Killer package from some very talented new gen operators.

Review: Back in the ring again... Big Lou and his gang and are throwing their weight around like a Royal Rumble on this third volume of the label's flagship VA series 'Black & Blue'. As always, it's a brutalist affair that's right on the forefront of drum & bass dancefloor, neuro and jump-up fusion. Cuts like SHANXX's high voltage 'Tracing', Roche & Teezy's minimalist horn-squeezing strutter 'Neruyoko', FMS's absolutely epic neuro-inspired 'Executioner', Medicine's mischievous screamer 'Badman' and Neffa's bouncy, twisted take on the classic early 2010s jump up sound 'Drill Dub' are just some of the many highlights. Trust us, this will batter your dancefloor silly. It's a knock out!

Review: Forget the therapist, "GLBDOM Therapy 2" is the prescription you need for a sonic escape. This compilation on the GLBDOM label boasts eleven diverse tracks, each crafted by a different artist, yet united by a common thread of soulful house music. It's an odyssey through sound, weaving together 90s-inspired pumping beats with the deeper, introspective vibes of the early 2000s. Imagine driving rhythms, fueled by infectious 4/4 beats, playing alongside cleverly programmed synth riffs. Dreamy pads and meandering strings add a touch of ethereal beauty, while skillfully applied vocal lines weave through the soundscape, adding a layer of human emotion. It's a vintage-tinged journey that avoids cliches, showcasing each artist's unique approach to modern house music. The diverse soundscapes guarantee something for everyone, from the energetic dancefloor anthems to the introspective, late-night grooves.

Review: In an industry where the term 'veteran' is bandied about far too freely, Colin Curtis is the real deal! His DJing career goes all the way back to legendary Northern Soul club The Golden Torch in the late 60s. In the 70s, he was a resident at Blackpool Mecca alongside Ian Levine, where he became one of the first DJs to introduce the more modern sound of jazz-funk to the scene. By the mid-80s he'd become an early UK champion of house, too, but these days it's on the jazz-dance scene that he's most revered - and here he serves up a 26-track connoisseur's collection that shows why. Ranging from straight-up jazz and soul to soulful house and leaning heavily towards the Afro- and Latin-flavoured, some of these cuts are recent offerings, some date back as far as the 70s, but on jazz-dance floors, all will go down a treat.

Review: This latest helping of futuristic goodness from the Top Drawer Digital team sees them dive into their third full length compilation drop, once again expanding the 'Abstractions' series with a solid helping of new school breakbeat flavour. Featuring 36 creations, this selection is a DJ's secret weapon for certain, with the likes of Kefford, Sub Fusion, Outrage, Sanxion, S.U.R.E and Nyxen alongside many more delivering top quality additions to the track listing. For us, this is a project best absorbed through the attached continuous DJ MIX, but our standouts would have to include the brain-boggling wave synth work of The Rumblist's 'Mind Blown', alongside the more throwback metallic dinks of Lucas's 'Light & High Beauty' original. Sensational stuff from all involved.

These include the likes of Luxe, Baraka, Faff, Local Group, Mabel and more, all supplying us with some serious weaponry that is sure to dizzy dances across the country. Our highlights however, would have to firstly include the glittering beauty of Angel D'lite's arpeggio-driven masterclass in 'Cloud 96', followed by the original version of Luxe's 'Dance Enchantress', which fuses eras with extreme sonic precision. All 8 featured tracks, be them standalone or remix, pack an original punch on this one!

Review: Embarking on a journey through deep, heavy and melodic sound, this latest Mood Child compilation kicks off with Buogo's "Rave It" - a high-octane warehouse designed banger filled with stadium sized euphoria. Summum, then, in collaboration with Manda Moor, delivers "Vibrant", a fusion of deep basslines and captivating vocal layers, while Puff's "Grafene" shakes the walls with some seismic bass waves alongside the relentless surge of BizZa's "Labanna". Underground Soldier's "Drop It" ensnares listeners with an infectious groove, followed by Mene's "Smack That" - a percussion-driven frenzy of club centric wares - while GREG from Brazil concludes the record with "Monkey", blending rhythmic mastery with primal dancefloor force. Moody indeed!

Review: Freerange Recordings takes us on a vibrant exploration of Johannesburg's musical landscape with "City To City: Johannesburg," a compilation featuring various artists. This diverse collection pulsates with energy, capturing the spirit of the city's dynamic and ever-evolving music scene. The journey begins with "Icey Baby" by KaySoul, a track that lives up to its name. Soulful vocals and sensitive production create a chilled and introspective atmosphere. SculpturedMusic takes a turn with "Midnight Talk," their signature deft pads shimmering over soft kicks, painting a sonic picture of a late-night cityscape. Then SizLeCaude's "Far Apart" injects a dose of energy with its driving bassline. With "Love (Kinda Thing)," Radic The Myth injects the compilation with his signature sound - harmonically rich and punchy house music that reflects his unique approach to the genre. To close the EP, Persie Botta and Jade Nickels team up on "They Never Loved Us," offering a quintessential slice of Joburg-style deep house: lush pads, powerful groove and a touch of melancholy weave through the track, leaving a lasting impression.

A sound, style and mindset that still seems futuristic to this day, nothing sounded like these records at the time and they all still stand tall - and incredibly relevant - to this day. Highlights include the utterly seminal 'Babylon' by Splash, DJ Hype's choppy anthem 'Dawn Of The Fever', Lick Back Organisation's FSOL-sampling 'Music Of The Future' and the supreme euphoria of Dextrous's 'Jungle Theme'. That means an attractive, immersive and frequently emotive mix of ambient-tinged deep electro (Pablo Bolivar & Nacho Sanchez), evocative tech-house (Dixon re-working Nandu's 'Around', Guy J's hypnotic, acid-flecked 'State of Trance'),pitched-down neo-trance dreaminess (Joris Voorn editing Solee), grandiose big room workouts (Fur Coat & Lexur), 21st century acid house (Phunkadelica remixing Damon Jee), and uplifting progressive house (D-Nox).

Review: The 3 Feet Deep have now unveiled a very exciting collection of original flavour, as they unveil this jaw-dropping 'Made In France' compilation, which opens up with the super smokey pad sweeps and groovy drum textures of Bernado's 'Bells Of Death', setting the tone very nicely from the jump. Next, Enrico Dragony gives us an old school thumper in 'The Special East', followed by DJ W!LD's more choppy bubbler in 'Blah Blah Fuckin Blah'. To close, Stefan Dubs firstly steps up on 'Awaken Dub', a Tempa-style throwback, packed to the rafters with warbling LFO madness and digitised horn themes, before the smoother electronic textures of Pepe Elle's 'Get Rockin' let's loose a top notch swan song to close things off. Awesome work!

Review: Fatman D's big bad Bio brand continues to celebrate 20 years with this second instalment of their double decade VA collection. Featuring some of their most exciting names (Enta, Profile, Chris Kastro, Traumatize, Parallel, DJ Limited, to name a few), the vibes are some of the most forward-thinking and exciting that Bio has ever released. From the eerie soul and crisp ripple of Parallel's 'District 9', the oddball wobbles of Grimmo's 'Like That' and Enta and Kastro's utterly scorchio 'Insult To Injury' are just a few of many sick examples. Big up the Bio gang!

Review: Shall Not Fade has reached the ripe old age of eight, a cause for celebration in these troubled times for artists and labels. To mark the occasion, the Bristol-based imprint has offered up this vast, 34-track compilation featuring new and unheard cuts from its ever-expanding family of artists. Naturally, it not only reflects Shall Not Fade's output, but also that of its various offshoots and series. So, there's plenty of high-grade deep house and immersive, breakbeat-driven deepness, but also surging, high-tempo rave-era nostalgia (see the tracks by TESTPRESS and Sheffield sorts Adelphi Music Factory), bassline (ABSOLUTE & HRSN), futurist techno (Marc Brauner), deep electro (Halo), hip-hop revivalism (Lydia Eisenbatter), progressive house and trance-influenced loveliness (MNL), and much more besides.

Review: Following the release of a fine solo EP from Lovanda, Iner's DOBRO label returns to the multi-artist EP blueprint on which it built its' reputation. It's a typically strong offering all told, with no less than six cuts on offer. Check first Classonix's 'Samba Collective', a brilliantly jaunty, percussive, and sun-soaked slab of Summery excellence, before turning your attention to the sample-heavy Afro-house of Anton Mo ('African Mania'), and the low-slung, low-tempo headiness of 'Son 3' by Lavrutz. Elsewhere, classic US deep house vibes are provided by Redgz Franklin and UC Beatz ('For The Music'), Tiptoes reaches for driving beats, woozy chords and weighty sub-bass ('Baby Ting'), and Triem re-invents 'French Touch' house for the 21st century ('Saghalian Love').

Review: Here's another must-check missive of lesser-known and hard-to-find material from DJ Kaos's Jolly Jams label, curated with love by the man himself. Over the course of 12 tidy tracks, we're treated to ambient lusciousness (Superpitcher remixing Kaos's own 'World Turning'), deliciously dubbed-out proto-house (the 'Warehousin' Mix' of Split Secs' 'I'm Not Losing'), mind-mangling psychedelic electronic disco-meets-acid house (Red Axes' 'Promo Only'), dub disco (Slaves of Love and Tavish, whose 'Raw Seduction' is genuinely superb), soaring disco edit action (Spring Break Edit), Sylvester pitched-down and blissed out (Balearic Skip), Kenny Hawkes-ish disco-not-disco eccentricity (Luke Solomon remixing Richard From Milwaukee) and ragging acid tracks (Danny Russell & Timothy Alexander).

Review: It's the ultimate breakthrough tune... Released back in 2014, 'Badboy' was the tune that changed the game for DJ Hybrid and boosted him to the levels he's known and respected at to this day, how he's celebrating its legacy with a series of outstanding remixes from some very talented artists including Zapya, Bish, Toby Ross, Kartoon and Lavery. Highlights range from the modern day rave slappery from Zapya, the slower breakbeat bubbles from Toby Ross, Bish's steamroller session, Lavery's face-melting drum work and Kartoon going for a classic jungle twist. Hell even Hybrid himself has delivered a killer VIP. What a package!

Featuring a wealth of exciting artists, we see the likes of Trail, Relict, GLM, Able, EVOLVED & more arrive with some fabulous feature work, unloading emotive harmonic structures and smooth drum arrangements for a truly ethereal underground experience. Our highlights for this one would of course have to include 'Halo' from Dominus, a smokey slink through crunchy synthetic gargles and metallic drumlines, backed up by the gnarly LFO work of Vektah's 'Rotation Heavy' and the head-low bops of 'Rhythm Choke' from Theoretical, again demonstrating the range of sonic beauty on display here.

Review: Fledgling disco label Steppin' Out - est. 2023, and not to be confused with Polydor's 1970s disco imprint of the same name - bring us their first compilation, which rounds up the best of their singles output thus far and features some well-known names like Ken@Work, Save The Robots and Stephane Deschezeaux. The provenance of some of the album's 11 tracks is a little hazy: some sound like straight-up re-edits, others like sample-heavy homages, but either way, most if not all draw extensively on dance music's past, and if you're revisiting classics like Patrice Rushen's 'Forget Me Nots' (now 'Want You To Remember'), Ce Ce Peniston's 'Finally' ('The Way I Feel'), Surface's 'Happy' ('Hypnotized') or Chemise's 'She Can't Love You' ('Can't Love You', obviously) it's unlikely the dancefloor's gonna worry about it too much.

Review: Heist Recordings' 'The Round Up' - an annual mini-album in which label artists remix each other - reaches its tenth volume. As usual, there's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout. Dam Swindle channel the spirit of Victor Simonelli's early '90s NYC house productions on a fine version of Cinthie's 'Won't You Take Me', Krewcial opts for a bouncy, piano-rich 'classic house' revision of Orlando Voorn's 'High', and DJ Sneak re-imagines Dam Swindle's 'Soul's Lament' as a rolling, string-stab laden slice of rolling Chicago chunkiness. Further highlights include Crackazat's loose-limbed, sun-soaked and synth solo-heavy revision of Krewcial's 'Owo', Cinthie turns DJ Sneak's 'Full Cycle' into an acid-and-filter heavy peak-time loop jam, and Orlando Voorn and Marina Trench join forces on a deep, drowsy and woozy rework of UC Beatz's 'Make Me Feel'.

Curated by Lee Burridge, A Winter Sampler features a diverse lineup of established and emerging talents. From the euphoric remix of St Germain's "So Flute" by Simon Vuarambon to Wassu and Bona Fide's deep yet playful collaboration "Threshold", the sampler offers moments of stillness, echoing the beauty and crispness of a northern season filled with ethereal melodies, reminiscent to ice crystals forming in the wind. Review: Reptile Mob have landed, a fabulous new imprint, looking to dive into the deepest realms of UKG with a fiery introductory release, welcoming five garage troopers inside to deliver a frankly wonderful collection. Firstly, Highrise touches down for a moody slide through chord-driven grooves and sub-heavy backdrops on 'Don't Know It', with 'On The Shores' giving us an even silkier follow up from Sky Joose. Next, Johnny U-Tah unleashes a crunchy fusion of distant digital saxophone lines and uplifting melodic jaunts on 'Voices In My Head', with The Thunderkats providing a slightly slower groove next on the shimmering synth work of 'Melatron'. Finally, Jay Ward unloads 'Everything That I Need', an old school roller that works some smooth magic to round off this initial collection in style.

We begin with Groovy D, an obvious high flyer within the UKG space, who delivers a dancefloor-ready bop in 'Outta My Mind', focussing on smooth sub work, before Highrise arrives for a follow up addition entitled 'Break Down', giving us some serious nostalgic flavour. From here, Dubplate Pressure arrives for a synth laden slink through choppy drums and moody LFO's on 'The Outlaw, with Duskope & Jay Ward's 'Way You Love' following up with moody synth designs and classic UKG samples all working in tandem. Finally, DJ Crisps gives us a more broken-beat chopper named 'I Believe', focusing on euphoric vocal displays to close the EP out in style.

Review: With UKG being the undeniable sound of the UK underground dance scene right now, compilations such as this latest box from R U SRS are an absolute gold mine for DJ's across the country, with this particular collection featuring 26 rave-ready belters. Artist wise, the quality level is looking super high, with the likes of Romey, BWK Project, Brent Kilner, Jay Ward and more all lending their hands, with the overall energy levels being through the roof. Although there are a lot of top quality drops to choose from, our highlights would have to include the free-roaming synth warbles of Kusha's 'Be Free', next to Syneater's wonky sound design across 'Feel Good' and Jay Colyer's sub-heavy bumper in 'Don't Want Me'. A very tasty affair.

Review: SHDW's label marks its twentieth release with this weighty compilation. Drawing on some of the most respected names in techno, volume three is full of peak-time bangers. There's the lean, rolling techno of Chlar's "Inside Us", while Dax J showers the listener with waves of acid tones on the steely, peak-time "Celestial Dub". The Advent's "Randomized" is a bruising and quite brilliant industrial techno workout. While Blawan's hyperactive "Don't You Dare Squawk At Me" hovers just below the 160 bpm mark, not all of the compilation is as intense. Vocals are mixed with chiming chords on Gary Beck's "Fold" and Z.I.P.P.O's "Broken Game" is a deep Detroit techno track.

Review: For fans of Damian Lazarus's Crosstown Rebels label, the release of a new SPIRITS compilation has become something of a New Year tradition. In Lazarus' words, the yearly collection - which here hits its' sixth volume - sets the label's "agenda" for the year ahead via cuts from fresh signings and label regulars. There are plenty of bona-fide dancefloor gems to be found throughout the eight-track collection, with our current favourites including the throbbing, percussion-rich big room tech-house excellence of 'The Vision' by Cameron Jack; the acid-fired heaviness of Lauren Lane's 'Fair Game', with its wobbly sub-bass and echoing Latin drum hits; the crackling, mind-mangling tech-house psychedelia of 'So Deep' by Cristina Lazic and Leia Contois; and the fiendishly bass-heavy tribal-tech wonder that is Inigo Vontier's accurately titled 'That Trippy Sound'.

Review: The return of Suburban Base in the last few years has been a welcome breath of fresh air for all generations. Those who can remember the legacy and influence of Danny Donnely's brand the first time round will know the weight it carries. Those who are lucky enough to be too young to remember will appreciate the quality of the goods here; timeless jungle music for the ages. Take any track here - from fresh originals like AKAS's 'The Meaning' to revitalised classics like the VIP of Marvellous Cain's 'Wanted Dead Or Alive' - and the energy and vibe cannot be faulted. Consider the fact some of Singing Fats' last ever recorded vocals and the fact you have music by a king like Marky on here and this really is an exceptional collection. Big up the Subbase crew!
