Review: Amentec have done a great job in assembling this top level collection of new school breakbeat action, welcoming no less than 14 artists inside across 13 hard hitting creations. The exciting thing about the project is that it leaves no breaks-inspired stone unturned, featuring the likes of Sound Synthesis, Inkipak, DAWL, Flatliner and more. From the intense, arcade style arrangements of Sub Oscillator's 'Ketzer' remix from Difool, to the more abstract acidity of Bobo's bulging 'Club Proxima', we see such an exciting range on display. Our highlights therefore have to include both the classy club-ready bops of Ova Doce's 'Keep On', next to the cloud-lining euphoria of MOY's 'Jovian Sunrise'. A truly top quality collection.

Review: For us, there is no denying that N-Type's legendary Wheel & Deal imprint has become one of the true benchmarks for quality within dubstep, celebrating their 100th official release with a face melting compilation. Featuring an array of top class guests, including Solidstates & Riko Dan, Roklem & Sebalo, Sepia, Lost, Grawinkel and more, this jumps straight into the top dubstep drops of the year category for us. With so many heavy hitting originals featured across this 22 track landscape, it's hard to pick our highlights, but the sumptuous sub & drift work of Kampah's 'Ryder' and the system-smashing bass notation of 'Chained' from Azotix would be the two immediate front runners. Congratulations to N Type and all involved on such an awesome achievement.

Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Top work all around!

Review: Volume 7 in the series but for once we can't really say "you should know what to expect by now" because what this compilation really goes to show is just what an eclectic and diverse camp the long-running Manchester label has become, with tracks on 'Paper Cuts #7' ranging from the near-ambient Balearica of Aniso Tropics' opener 'Apricot Memorex' to the self-explanatory synth-y stylings of La Guardia de la Luz's 'Trance Aleman de los 90s' via the uptempo strut of Jahn Solo's 'Disco'. So all we can really do is point you in the direction of some standout cuts, which for this reviewer would include D.S.D's luscious 'Just Can't Stop' and Benny Pitcher's 'Transatlantic Motion', which is like a little musical nod to the days when Paper comps were called 'Splinter'.

While not a new act, label owners Slam get the ball rolling with their own "Exhibit 3", which revisits the raw, jacking sound of their Snapshots release. EJA's "Detachment Theory" represents a more contemporary take on underground techno. Led by a pumping, heads-down groove and relentless, doubled-up claps, it also features mysterious synth builds. Similarly atmospheric sounds inhabit Skjöld's "Stearic Acid" - but on this occasion, they are woven into a stripped back, percussive groove. This sequel repeats the formula, delivering five more fresh revisions of Luv Shack classics. Polish cosmic disco superhero Das Komplex steps up first with a typically trippy, dubbed-flecked nu-disco take on Jakobin's 'See Me Through', before Rosa Red reaches for psychedelic TB-303 lines and hot-stepping beats on a pitched-up revision of 'If You' by Ken Hayakawa and Lee Stevens. Review: There's a hint in the title here, as theBasement Discos serve up a collection of 20 house tracks with the ivories firmly front and centre. But while the old Joanna might be the thread that ties it all together, there's still plenty of variety on offer, from sprightly jazz-house workouts like AFAMoo's 'The Art Of Jazz' to deep house jams like A Naranjo's 'What Lies To Head' and Foot-Loose's 'Weekend'-biting disco-houser 'LA Piano Mood'. It's not all nostalgic homages to the hands-in-the-air anthems of the early 90s, in other words - though naturally there are plenty of those as well, with Piem's '4Real' one clear standout in that department. Review: The eighth instalment of Cocoon's Dots And Pearls compilation series starts on a light note. JOSS' "Assessing" is a melodic techno track powered by cascading snares and swirling pads. In a similar style is Emanuel Satie's "When I First Met You (I Knew You Were The One)", where angelic voices and soaring strings make for an uplifting track. There's an edgier sensibility on Denis Horvat & Skarn's chugging "Triii", reflected also on Aocram & Ramsey Neville's acid-led "Brooklyn Structure".

Review: Since their label inception back in 2018, the team over at Wisdom Teeth have done a great job at both cultivating and innovative forward thinking electronic music, with their roster featuring a number of true veterans of the game. This latest compilation takes the title 'Club Moss' and sees them assemble 14 fiery original creations, featuring the likes of Facta, K-Lone, Maya Q, LUXE, Purelink and more, all of whomst deliver naught but quality in their chosen creations. For us, despite this being a longer project, there are two clear standout recordings, the first of which is of course Cousin's atmospheric drifter in 'Tooth 4 Tooth' which gives us a spacious, exploratory feel. Alongside this, the moogy sub bounces of Tammo Hesselink's 'Cupboard Cylinder Salon' original also tops the list for us, showcasing the variation of styles that sits within the Wisdom Teeth camp.

Review: This time around from Bait, we have a very tidy collection indeed as four heavyweight names touch down as part of the 'Baby Steps VEP' collection. We open up with the dubwise influences and marching drum lines of 'Late Steps' from Quasar, a fiery introduction packing a super subby punch, before Orchid then unloads a crunching roller in 'Burning Steppes', again upping the energy levels. Review: In an industry where the term 'veteran' is bandied about far too freely, Colin Curtis is the real deal! His DJing career goes all the way back to legendary Northern Soul club The Golden Torch in the late 60s. In the 70s, he was a resident at Blackpool Mecca alongside Ian Levine, where he became one of the first DJs to introduce the more modern sound of jazz-funk to the scene. By the mid-80s he'd become an early UK champion of house, too, but these days it's on the jazz-dance scene that he's most revered - and here he serves up a 26-track connoisseur's collection that shows why. Ranging from straight-up jazz and soul to soulful house and leaning heavily towards the Afro- and Latin-flavoured, some of these cuts are recent offerings, some date back as far as the 70s, but on jazz-dance floors, all will go down a treat.

Lead cut "City Lights" kicks off with some deep and melancholic bassline house next to some moody techno reminiscent of early Ben Klock in "10247". "The Clap" delivers some footwork inspirations next to some spookier electro wares in "Neophile" - banging. "Pisecean" gets all breakbeat and new age in the mix alongside some warehouse techno in "Regular Disturbances" alongside some melodic 'Mathew Johnson' inspired sounds in "Old Paris". Review: The 3 Feet Deep have now unveiled a very exciting collection of original flavour, as they unveil this jaw-dropping 'Made In France' compilation, which opens up with the super smokey pad sweeps and groovy drum textures of Bernado's 'Bells Of Death', setting the tone very nicely from the jump. Next, Enrico Dragony gives us an old school thumper in 'The Special East', followed by DJ W!LD's more choppy bubbler in 'Blah Blah Fuckin Blah'. To close, Stefan Dubs firstly steps up on 'Awaken Dub', a Tempa-style throwback, packed to the rafters with warbling LFO madness and digitised horn themes, before the smoother electronic textures of Pepe Elle's 'Get Rockin' let's loose a top notch swan song to close things off. Review: Following the release of a fine solo EP from Lovanda, Iner's DOBRO label returns to the multi-artist EP blueprint on which it built its' reputation. It's a typically strong offering all told, with no less than six cuts on offer. Check first Classonix's 'Samba Collective', a brilliantly jaunty, percussive, and sun-soaked slab of Summery excellence, before turning your attention to the sample-heavy Afro-house of Anton Mo ('African Mania'), and the low-slung, low-tempo headiness of 'Son 3' by Lavrutz. Review: Coming in smokey from the Flexout Audio collective, another vibrant compilation collection, exploring the more atmospheric end of the UKG spectrum with the second edition of their 'Waves' series. Featuring a wealth of exciting artists, we see the likes of Trail, Relict, GLM, Able, EVOLVED & more arrive with some fabulous feature work, unloading emotive harmonic structures and smooth drum arrangements for a truly ethereal underground experience. Our highlights for this one would of course have to include 'Halo' from Dominus, a smokey slink through crunchy synthetic gargles and metallic drumlines, backed up by the gnarly LFO work of Vektah's 'Rotation Heavy' and the head-low bops of 'Rhythm Choke' from Theoretical, again demonstrating the range of sonic beauty on display here.

Review: Fledgling disco label Steppin' Out - est. 2023, and not to be confused with Polydor's 1970s disco imprint of the same name - bring us their first compilation, which rounds up the best of their singles output thus far and features some well-known names like Ken@Work, Save The Robots and Stephane Deschezeaux. The provenance of some of the album's 11 tracks is a little hazy: some sound like straight-up re-edits, others like sample-heavy homages, but either way, most if not all draw extensively on dance music's past, and if you're revisiting classics like Patrice Rushen's 'Forget Me Nots' (now 'Want You To Remember'), Ce Ce Peniston's 'Finally' ('The Way I Feel'), Surface's 'Happy' ('Hypnotized') or Chemise's 'She Can't Love You' ('Can't Love You', obviously) it's unlikely the dancefloor's gonna worry about it too much.

Review: Back with a second edition as quick as their first, Reptile Mob returned in top form for the second edition of their 'REPWIND' series, unloading five more heavyweight garage weapons. We begin with Groovy D, an obvious high flyer within the UKG space, who delivers a dancefloor-ready bop in 'Outta My Mind', focussing on smooth sub work, before Highrise arrives for a follow up addition entitled 'Break Down', giving us some serious nostalgic flavour. From here, Dubplate Pressure arrives for a synth laden slink through choppy drums and moody LFO's on 'The Outlaw, with Duskope & Jay Ward's 'Way You Love' following up with moody synth designs and classic UKG samples all working in tandem. Finally, DJ Crisps gives us a more broken-beat chopper named 'I Believe', focusing on euphoric vocal displays to close the EP out in style.

Review: With UKG being the undeniable sound of the UK underground dance scene right now, compilations such as this latest box from R U SRS are an absolute gold mine for DJ's across the country, with this particular collection featuring 26 rave-ready belters. Artist wise, the quality level is looking super high, with the likes of Romey, BWK Project, Brent Kilner, Jay Ward and more all lending their hands, with the overall energy levels being through the roof. Although there are a lot of top quality drops to choose from, our highlights would have to include the free-roaming synth warbles of Kusha's 'Be Free', next to Syneater's wonky sound design across 'Feel Good' and Jay Colyer's sub-heavy bumper in 'Don't Want Me'. A very tasty affair.

Review: Heist Recordings' 'The Round Up' - an annual mini-album in which label artists remix each other - reaches its tenth volume. As usual, there's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout. Dam Swindle channel the spirit of Victor Simonelli's early '90s NYC house productions on a fine version of Cinthie's 'Won't You Take Me', Krewcial opts for a bouncy, piano-rich 'classic house' revision of Orlando Voorn's 'High', and DJ Sneak re-imagines Dam Swindle's 'Soul's Lament' as a rolling, string-stab laden slice of rolling Chicago chunkiness. Further highlights include Crackazat's loose-limbed, sun-soaked and synth solo-heavy revision of Krewcial's 'Owo', Cinthie turns DJ Sneak's 'Full Cycle' into an acid-and-filter heavy peak-time loop jam, and Orlando Voorn and Marina Trench join forces on a deep, drowsy and woozy rework of UC Beatz's 'Make Me Feel'.
