Review: The eighth instalment of Cocoon's Dots And Pearls compilation series starts on a light note. JOSS' "Assessing" is a melodic techno track powered by cascading snares and swirling pads. In a similar style is Emanuel Satie's "When I First Met You (I Knew You Were The One)", where angelic voices and soaring strings make for an uplifting track. There's an edgier sensibility on Denis Horvat & Skarn's chugging "Triii", reflected also on Aocram & Ramsey Neville's acid-led "Brooklyn Structure".
The mood continues to darken with the EBM influences of Alex Bau's grinding "Antidot", while the ever-reliable Redshape resurfaces with the pulsating "Ghost Story". But it's only a temporary situation and Harald Bjork's "Aluco" rounds off the release with an ominous tranced-out track.

In Lazarus' words, the yearly collection - which here hits its' sixth volume - sets the label's "agenda" for the year ahead via cuts from fresh signings and label regulars. Review: Riva Starr's label comes good with another fine split release. With a focus on minimal house, Volume 2 has enough range and diversity to keep even the most discerning DJ engaged. Sebastian Xottelo's "Trick Trick" integrates creaking percussion and crackling electronic riffs into its rolling rhythm. Chicago influences bubble to the surface on Fabio Ferro's "I Have Some". Led by an insistent groove and peppered with disco samples and organ stabs, it's redolent of classic DJ Sneak. And for those who like minimal with dubbed out influences, the walking bass and trippy vocals of Diego Cardarelli's "Organ Jordan" is the track of choice on this EP.

Review: The fifth instalment of the Raw Grooves compilation includes a range of house styles. Alvaro AM's "Pay For The Acid" is a rolling percussive affair imbued with searing acid lines; while the tribal sound is covered on Bassel Darwish's "Point In Time". Volume 5 also makes reference to resurgent minimal house courtesy of Carloh's pared back "Tchutchuca". There are also echoes of old school tech-house on the pulsating bass and dubbed out drums of Marcellus' "Roll The Dice". Rounding off the compilation, Ramin Rezaie pays tribute to Chicago on the swinging groove and woozy chords of "Days Off".
