Review: Vicente Milioto De Palma - better known as Vhyce - has a strong track record when it comes to blurring the boundaries between contemporary electronic disco and house music, with plentiful releases on Future Disco, Pets Recordings and Correspondant to his name. It's to the latter label that he returns for his first outing of 2024, the five-track Elusive Framework. He begins with full length and edited versions of the title track, a quietly uplifting fusion of colourful nu-disco synths, rolling bass, crunchy drum machine fills and insanely gorgeous chords. Elsewhere, he opts for a dirtier Italo-disco bassline (and mildly moodier) electronics on the all-action rush of 'Orographic Cloud', doffs a cap to formative piano house on the saucer-eyed 'I Wish You Knew', and joins the dots between nu-disco and the Pet Shop Boys' 'Relentless' album on the similarly piano-heavy 'Forever'.

Review: Celebrating 10 years of Alex Niggemann's Aeon label - its fifth and final drop for the series anniversary series sends in a closing four numbers. Trusty ol' Lauer arrives with some gothic, night driving Italo-electro in "Mercury Retrograde" - Kavinsky eat your heart out - that sits pretty next to the stringed and acid inspired house and electro by Alan Dixon. Vhyce turns up the disco arpeggios to 11 in his chord heavy "A Clay That Never Dries", while the man Niggemann closes us out with a sensational warehouse electro dub, "Generation X".

Deeper still you'll find classic US house referential tracks by Butch, two trancey drops from Lake Avalon alongside some breathyand melodic bassline burners from Vhyce. A compilation that truly inspires that just after sunset feeling, with techier twinkles of star-light to boot - check numbers by Evren Furtuna & Gab Rhome, Jetlag and Kidnap, to Baril's deeply inspiring, breakbeat-esque and Laurie Anderson contributing "Lockdown".

Review: After celebrating their landmark 40th anniversary last year, long running Ibiza-based institution Cafe Del Mar are back for the next annual compilation in their series. Cafe Del Mar Chillhouse Mix XII does exactly what it says on the tin, and quite frankly no one else quite does it better. Highlights come from: legend Ian Pooley on the bumpin' late night groove of "Puzzled", Montreal staple Fred Everything getting the remix treatment by the ever reliable I:cube on the ultra deep sleaze of "Barbarella" and British nu-disco heroes Bent also getting a low slung rework by the mighty Ashley Beedle on "Friends". Elsewhere, Kiwi duo Chaos In The CBD keep "Cool But So.." by Detroit first wave pioneer Alton Miller in a typically soulful and emotive form with their perspective, while Chicago staple JT Donaldson delivers perfect mood music as always with his remix of Dirtytwo's "Hopeless" and Ron Trent showing us all exactly just what 'deepness' really is all about on his stunning version of Tevo Howard's classic "Without Me" feat Tracey Thorn - an oldie but still a goodie!

Review: Three slices of heavily electronic, house-leaning disco here from Vhyce, a Portuguese-Italian producer who's currently based in Belgium. 'Amour Cru' starts out as a perfectly serviceable Italo-esque chugger, then slowly develops into a sultry, sweaty affair that's got a mid-90s house feel, complete with a (presumably sampled, but unidentified) diva vocal. The far pacier, more urgent-sounding 'Rainbow Overdrive' is a pretty faithful homage to European disco of the early 80s (vaguely new wave-ish female vocal and all) and has some fine space disco stabs, while 'L.O.W' invites the throwing of dancefloor shapes with its jaunty, proto-electro synth riff.

Review: Ibiza institution Cafe Mambo needs little introduction. Starting as a sunset hangout, it soon became a perfect venue for the island's pre-parties and has developed an iconic status worldwide. It has served up thousands of sunsets since it first opened it's doors in 1994 and here's Sunset to Afterdark: an expertly crafted collection compiled by the team behind the successful Future Disco series and Needwant label. This one takes you from those unforgettable sunsets to, like the name suggests, the nighttime where things really heat up. If there is one essential soundtrack required this summer, this is it. Highlights not limited to: Zero 7's sublime drifter "Last Light", Dutch trio Kraak & Smaak's emotive and bittersweet little ditty "Stumble" (Blue Hotel Mix) through to the gorgeous remix of Tempelhof & Gigi Masin's "Blue 13" by Declasse main man Steve Coby. Review: Given that his last appearance was on noted disco/deep house fusion imprint Diggin' Deeper, it's perhaps unsurprising that the crew behind Future Disco are big fans of Vhyce. His first EP for the noted compilation and party crew's label is a typically woozy and well-produced affair. Opener "Now You're Gone" is a superb slice of atmospheric deep house with notable Balearic flourishes (dewy-eyed vocal samples, piano flourishes and so on), while the more boisterous - but White Isle terrace-friendly - closer "Can't Do Without" offers a pleasingly groovy fusion of jazz-funk and disco-house elements. Arguably best of all, though, is "The City", a baggy chunk of evocative, piano-heavy house dripping with Balearic intent.

Review: The fabulously named Bicente Milloto Da Palma has been releasing material under the Vhyce alias since the turn of the decade, mostly on digital imprints Club Sweat and No Brainer. Here he appears on Future Disco with the rather fine "Just to Make Me". It begins as a drowsy deep house chugger before blossoming into a spiraling, pandemonium-sparking chunk of disco-house brilliance complete with killer samples from a lesser-known disco-soul gem. In some respects, it has a similar feel and vibe to Tom Trago's much-loved (and rather brilliant) "Use Me Again". The headline remix comes from ONSRA, whose chunky, filter-heavy "French Touch" style tweak somehow makes a big track even bigger, though Till Von Sein's beautifully deep and dreamy rework is also superb.

Review: Belgian upstart Vhyce follows up releases on Sweat It Out! and Club Sweat with this tasty four tracker featuring some sure fire main room house on the funky tip. The original of "Struggle" ticks all the boxes with its tough shuffling rhythm, rolling bass and sexy vocals. He gets in London legend and Reverso 68 main man Pete Herbert in for a remix who gives it a tremendous nu-disco makeover and is the real highlight on here. "Can't Get Away" is more on the soulful tech house tip that fans of Greg Fenton or D'julz would truly be all over! The remix of it by Berlin favourites Daniel Solar and Andi De Luxe is tight peak time tech house that fans of the Frankfurt/Mannheim sound will definitely dig!

Review: Belgium's Vhyce has a reputation for always delivering high-end house productions and this latest for Dikso keeps up the good work. "Lies" is an ecstasy-drenched slab of uplifting, soulful house complete with shimmering, dreamy synths. The Larse remix takes the same tune down into some dark and sweaty basements for techy after-hours sleaze, while "As Cold As The See" comes up for air in a more upmarket cocktail bar for some housier action, also taken into loopy deep and soulful territory by Luvless.

Review: Food Music continues its fine form with a heavy-loaded remix release after bomb after bomb from the likes of Coldwater and Fake Blood. The boys get together to remix a collection of tracks from a mixed pool of artists, some new and some who have already featured on the label. This is all within the bass spectrum, of course (although we hate to use that term so loosely), with seven dance-ready cuts in total. If we were to pull the gold then we'd have to lean towards Applebottom's rework of Kry Wolf's own "No Trouble" - a deranged tech-house bruiser with nutty vocal samples - and Fake Blood's remix of Vhyce's "Be The Same", a jazzy and break-ridden house lick. Top.

Review: After revealing each exclusive track over the last month, Kry Wolf finally delivers his DNA collection. A way of showing his own roots and party passions while celebrating his peers and labelmates' finest studio creations, the mix is a great reflection of Wolf, his and Shadow Child's label and its talented roster. Highlights include Shadow Child and Friend Within's WOW-referencing "The Moon", Kry Wolf's percussion-pummelled twist on "Piano Weapon", Geoff K's floor-melting bass shaker "Dysturbed Trumpet" and NYTA's dangerously demonic vocal cut "The Call". Also included is Kry Wolf's mix that joins the dots between the many sonic shades. A great concept backed up by an immaculate collection; DNA is where it's at.
