Review: Martinez joins NX1 as the latest artist to release on new label Rising. In its original format, the title track is a stomping, stepping affair, its muscular rhythm interspersed by powerful blasts of white noise. Oscar Mulero's take is even more intense, with the Warm Up boss adding panel-beating drums and insistent filters to the original arrangement. From there on in, the release drops a few notches in the intensity stakes; Ness delivers a deep, mysterious version, full of eerie twitches and turns and Adriana Lopez drops a percussive remix that while dancefloor-primed doesn't teem with the primal force of the original version.

Review: Oscar Mulero's Pole Group closes out the year with a collection from some of techno's most respected producers. While the overall tone on Unknown Landscapes is dark and at times unsettling, it never strays into the plodding furrowed-brow seriousness that often besets contemporary techno. DVS1's "Strobe" sees the US DJ deliver churning chords over a grinding, metallic rhythm, while Reeko's "Enlightenment Process" shifts from pounding broken beats into a spacey, filtered segue. That's not to suggest that the label or its owner have gone soft either; the squelchy acid and stinging riffs of Jonas Kopp's "M31" is as intense as it gets, but at the same time, contributions from Adam X and Forward Strategy Group tingle and pulse in a dubby, fuzzy afterglow.

Lessons On Emptiness
The Infiltrator (Chapter 3) - (2:56) 135 BPM
The Infiltrator (Chapter 2) - (5:29) 135 BPM
Lessons On Emptiness (original mix) - (5:49) 135 BPM
Motor Zerox (original mix) - (4:43) 135 BPM
Review: London based label Sect salute Spain's techno history with their tenth release, represented by highly respected techno producer and DJ Victor Martinez. Psychedelia-tinged tracks are the order of the day here as Victor steps up the pace and sets the standard. "The Infiltrator", Chapters 1 & 2 are both moody and mysterious slices of voodoo magic from Martinez and firmly nod to the dark hours of techno. "Lessons On Emptiness" is just as menacing, with weird samples and indecipherable vocals flying throughout. "Motor Zerox" leans to a slightly lighter atmosphere with rumbling percussion sections and a hook melody. Another killer EP from Sect.
