Review: St Petersberg's Dobro label is noted not just for the quality and playability of its funky house and disco re-edits, but also for its value for money. This is another great example, with no less than six floorfillers included on one EP, each bringing their own individual mood to the table. 'Flowers Festival' from Sun Rhythms has throbbing organs and fruity keys, topped off by a gorgeous Russian vocal. DJ Merci's 'Timetable' goes for chunky rave pianos and Fairlight stabs, lending it an 80s Italo-disco feel, before Ground Plane Aerial's 'Transition SP' closes the side with slap bass and stripped down house vibe that echoes some of Roule Records' more accessible moments. Following is VIGI's 'I Am You', probably the most memorable of the whole package, with its idiosyncratic female vocal weaving a magical spell around the listener, before we finish off with a double whammy of Monny Me's swirling stringfest 'The Name Of The Game' and the parping horns and strutting groove of Ugly Frankie's 'Free Alcohol Shit', the latter including a bewitching and unexpected piano solo. Great work all round.
Review: Contemporary disco with the funk and soul in full effect is the order of the day on this V/A offering from Ravanelli Disco Club. Vigi's opening 'Loving You' comes from the more discofied end of the deep house and garage spectrum and should be a small-hours cert, after which comes Kousto's 'Save My Soul', which marries rolling tribal drums to a looped soulful male vocal, and as such should work on soul and soulful house floors alike. It's then time to get up, stand up as Sauco's aptly-titled 'Twisted Funk' takes us into struttier territory, before finally Donny Rotten brings the 70s-inspired nu-disco vibes with 'Her Way'.
Review: Nice, France-based Vigi, whose music has previously appeared on labels such as Spa In Disco, Rare Wiri and Slightly Transformed, comes to Masterworks Music, the Manchester-based imprint headed up by Danny Worrall AKA 80s Child, with a three-track EP. 'Back To Love' itself kicks things off in pleasingly summery, rolling fashion and has a late 70s/early 80s disco feel. 'Sunday', which follows, pushes closer to Dave Lee-esque disco-house territory with its tuff 4/4s and looped soulful vocal sample, while completing the EP is 'Lost And Found', a lower-tempo funk/soul jam that for this reviewer is the pick of the crop.

Review: Three tracks in a total of six mixes make up this EP from Nice, France-based Vigi, which comes on Rayko's Rare Wiri label. 'Thinking About You' itself starts life sounding like an early 80s AOR/yacht rock excursion - think Toto or Foreigner - while the Extended DJ Mix chucks a 4/4 kick underneath it, but it's the ever-reliable Manuel Costela who comes with the most obviously floor-friendly of the three rubs. Elsewhere on the EP, 'You Got Me' mines 80s boogie sounds and comes complete with an elevated-tempo Boogietraxx Remix (my pick), while the mellower 'Somethin' I Want' comes on like a Balearica-boogie meltdown.

Review: French producer Vigi returns to Slightly Transformed with a three-track EP. 'Show Me' itself is up first and has a late 70s/early 80s feel, with classic disco strings married to a more boogie-esque male vocal. 'Feel This Love', which follows, drops the tempo and has a hazy, laidback feel that means it would slot well into Balearic sets. The package is then completed by 'Sundown', wherein a full male soul vocal and understated beats are served up in wobbly, warping fashion ? la Lemon Jelly, Bent et al. Classy stuff all round, but 'Show Me' takes the gold.

Review: There's certainly no shortage of synth-led, Euro/Italo-inspired disco around right now, and here we get four more slices of such to choose from courtesy of Vigi, a producer from Nice, France whose work has previously appeared on Spa In Disco, Slightly Transformed and NDYD Records, among others. There are three rubs of 'Unknown Lover' but they don't vary hugely, truth be told: Aleito's mix is a tad darker, James Rod's a touch more psychedelic and druggy, but these are very subtle distinctions. Bonus cut 'Never Forget', meanwhile, couldn't be more Moroder-esque if it changed its name to Giorgio!

Review: With 23 tracks to choose from, there's no faulting the value for money offered by this summer compilation from London's Slightly Transformed label. Such an extensive tracklist also offers plenty of scope for stylistic variety, with tracks ranging from laidback, groovesome boogie/soul jams like opener 'What Are We Gonna Do' to the mellow Balearic haze of 'Summer In The City', via the strident 80s attitude of 'Edgy', the looping filter disco of 'Something About Love', the authentic-sounding Blaxploitation funk of 'Mac And Carly Go Uptown', the Zapp/Cameo-isms of 'Firebabe' and even a bossa nova cover of Bill Withers. Serve poolside, accompanied by several mojitos, for maximum impact!

Review: Having recently notched up a sixth year in business, Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint is in a celebratory mood - hence this all-action round-up of recent delights and unheard treats from the disco-loving label. Encompassing no less than 30 tunes, the collection giddily skips between warming beatdown disco (P-Sol's "Walter"), Mark E style slo-mo loop jams (Vigi's "I'll Be There") and glassy-eyed Balearic nu-disco (Picklejam's "Untitled Love"), before raising its hands skywards as the peak-time party-starters begin to appear thick and fast. Highights in this category include the vibrant jazz-house flex of Dexter Jones' "Swing Thing", the bustling boogie re-edit business of Monsieur Von Pratt's "Let's Dance" and the hearty disco-funk heaviness of Chewy Rubs' "Funky Bee Bop".

Review: With the sun finally making its presence felt in the UK, it seems a fitting time for Slightly Transformed to unleash this epic compilation of "Summer Numbers" - cheery, disco-fired chunks of positivity tailor made for al-fresco sets and celebratory shindigs. Featuring a mixture of tried-and-tested re-edits and sample-heavy original compositions, the 19-track set boasts a pleasingly high number of highlights. These include - but are no way limited to - the talkbox-sporting '80s disco/jazz-funk fusion of Shit Hot Soundsystem's "Be With You", the warm and woozy, synth-laden bliss of Chuggin Edits' "Floating", the slow and steady head-nod of Old Chaps wonderfully soulful "Flight With Love" and the fizzing disco rush of Limpdisco's "Gimme Mo". Get To Know's "Music" - a chunky revision of a jazz-funk era dancefloor destroyer by Dayton - is also excellent.

Review: London re-edit label Slightly Transformed bring us a two-tracker from French producer Vigi. No idea what the original source for the strings-drenched, male-vocalled 'Acid Lies' might be, but the track presented here is simply dripping in 80s soul/boogie goodness, while a gentle dash of 303 freakery adds a little more contemporary appeal towards the end. 'Because Of You' is similarly boogie-inspired, but has a pacier, more disco-oriented feel. Good stuff, but be careful out there, people - a couple of spins and you may find yourself overcome by a sudden yearning for shiny suits and enormous shoulderpads...

Review: Vigi is from the super-chic south of France and he makes disco (edits). This is his debit release and he's scored big, cos its on the mighty Disco Fruit label. Still, considering where he's from, he's bound to have the chops, it's in the air down there y'see. There are four jams here, all slow and groovy; "Move On" features punchy drums with cleverly layered string laden samples, "Everything Gonna Be Alright" is stoned, summery synth pop, "He & She" is a perky retro boogie joint (literally) and 'I Got You" is full of elastic basslines and saxophone aplenty!
