The fluorescent art work of Vinyl Life's Hi-Tops EP is matched by the banging retro rave meets electrofunk fare enclosed within. The NYC trio continue to develop their sound which melds elements of house, hiphop, electro, funk and freestyle to great effect. The title track sounds very much like a playful take on vintage Royal House applied to a jungle framework, which is expanded further on the extended dub. Three remixes are included and takes things in a more contemporary direction. Cru Jones takes 'Hi Top' into breakier territory, cutting up the vocals and adding a devilishly warm fuzzy bass line. Bill Youngman provides some steppers delight with a half time wobble step remix which is matched by the heavily filtered stuttering drunken dubstep of Koolfella's remix.
