Flavours for everyone; 'Miracles' goes all-in with the stinkiest basslines the label has ever released, 'Wind Up' is a big one for those cheeky switch ups and springy funk blasts, while 'Bullet To The Head' is a trippy, leftfield take on minimal steppery and 'Hopeless' swaggers with kicks so wide you'll think your ears have expanded and there's something wrong your intestines. Review: Vital makes some of the nastiest beats around and he's back now on Audio Addict with a release that's decidedly dark, featuring lots of monochromatic basslines and pumping, remorseless vibes. 'Steppin' is one of our favourites just for its precise, stepping percussive line that comprises lots of little sounds all interwoven together, and features a sample from Flowdan's 'Welcome to London'. 'Move' is simpler but bigger, with a rambunctious bassline that ploughs through the range with ease. Nice one.

Review: If you couldn't tell from the previous two editions on Liondub International, perhaps 'Criminal Minds Volume 3' will finally make you realise that Vital is above the law. With beats as brazen as these, he's got more diplomatic immunity than everyone ever involved in the Lethal Weapon franchise put together, and still he continues; the ringtone neck-wringing of 'Compulsion To Kill', the swaggering grunts and classic sample of 'Positive Vibes', the tension and paranoia of 'Good To Me' and ruffneck drama of 'Unorthadox' are all so badass they instantly come with a get out of jail free card. Naughty naughty.

Review: Vital is a drum and bass producer/DJ from Bournemouth, on the south coast of the UK. He has had releases on Subliminal Recordings, Samurai Bass Audio, Bulletproof Recs and Twisted Beatz. The Recognition EP features the wonky bassline action of "London", while "Culture" similarly infuses the street sounds of grime to impressive effect. Stepper "Recognition" has a somewhat dark jump-up vibe reminiscent of the True Playaz sound and "Disconnected" channels that classic techstep/neurofunk style of all on this roller from the darkside.

Review: Vital by name, Vital by nature... "Criminal Minds" sees the young UK producer return to the NYC imprint with the start of an exciting new series. Delving deep into a fat sack of gully, each of these cuts rep Vital at his darkest and most uncompromising. "Criminal Minds" takes the lead with a classic vocal sample and a Serum-style naggy bass riff, "Acid Rocker" goes full-on foghorn fire with its big farty turbine bass roars, "Patterns" adds a little late 90s tech danger in the synths before dropping into an absolute sewer bassline while "Recognise" closes the EP with a little trad jump-up craftmanship. Riffy, addictive and laced with just a touch of soul on the vocal. Killer material; being a criminal has never been so much fun.

Review: Everyone likes a good compilation, right? What's better than having as big a range of artists as possible in one condensed place? It's essentially an album with the ease of listening of a single, so we're all for it. Subliminal have come out with the 2020 edition in their Riddim Return series and it's packed full of bangers, across a range of styles, and it's one of those albums which doesn't try to be cool or sophisticated by chucking in a few fillers for the sake of diversity - it's just hard stuff here. It works great, with Sam Harris' tendency for muscular minimosity coming on loud and clear on Boom Ting, a wickedly devilish and driving roller.

Review: Iron Fist is an appropriate name for the label behind this collection of VIPs and, listening through them, you can hear why. This release is a solid envelope of four tunes which demonstrate a serious understanding of jump-up's nastier end, the type of jump-up which some hate but which inspires a passionate love for the genre in others. Jaydan's VIP of Say Nothing is the best example of this, its pointed, jagged-edged basslines are cutting and penetrating at the same time, snappy drums lie underneath and the whole tune is packaged with effortless finesse. Review: Vital always goes big, anyone who's heard any of his music would be able to tell you that. This EP is, unsurprisingly, no different and if anything, it's some of the best stuff we've heard out of Vital. It's pacey, it's rolling, it's full of vibrancy and it's all guaranteed A-list dancefloor ready. The title track kicks things off with energetic subtlety, a simple percussive line beneath an entanglement of reece basses and bouncing stabs, it's infectious and it's damn good. 'Wacky' is downright naughty, with grating stabs and fluctuating undercurrents of force all coming together to make a Kings Of The Rollers-worthy little number. Absolutely wicked.

Review: Over on Bulletproof, they've come up with the aptly titled Kevlar Vest EP, a various artists compilation comprised of four absolute weapon we presume are the need for Kevlar protection. Vital is perhaps the best-known producer on the release and his tune 'Blown Cover' is full-throttle from the start, a quick paced intro quickly leading into a metallic convergence of energy that's palpable on the drop, its KoTR pedigree clearly audible for all to hear. 'Elections' by Magenta is the other highlight, a screecher that is both painful and beautiful on the ears, a tune perfectly designed to make election day far less depressing with some genuine excitement. This is a top collection of tracks.

Review: Categorically one of the most prolific producers in the game right now, Vital follows up his rather "Violent" on Dub Voltage with another generous sledgehammer six pack. Groaners and stinkers galore, like all Pick N Mix releases, these cuts are tailored for the dance and creative DJ pleasure. Highlights include the foul stench bass screams and grumpy subs of "Hauling", the crucial spoken sample and dirt bike revving bassline of "They Will See" and both the treacle like bass sludge and graveyard breakdown of "Ridin High" and its gnarlier, gruffer version. Chop up both cuts for maximum effect and they won't see you for dust.

Review: Smooth rolling bass is the nature of this title track, and as you'd expect from a Soul Deep release, it delivers. That caramel-smooth bassline gives it a mellow, deep low end, providing a perfect counterpoint to splashy, quick-witted breaks and shimmering keys. Based in Leeds, Loz Contreras has been dabbling in all forms of bass-driven music for some time now, but it's his soulful D&B that really shines. On the flip it's clear to see that given the chance he will experiment to his heart's content, from textures and sampling to the core framework of a track. Expect to hear much more from this guy as the world wakes up to his sound.
