Review: Over the years we have slowly seen the dubstep sound become more and more prominent across Europe and beyond. Today we check out the latest drop from one of France's original stepper soundsmiths with this vibrant two track project from the now London-based Von D. We kick off with 'Cross Of Hendaye', an incredibly crispy creation, boasting thick, punchy drum structures and vibrant bubbling atmospheric textures, working together to create a sizzling, unpredictable, system ready delight. On the flip, 'Finis Gloriae Mundi' takes a slightly more rawcus tone, focussing more-so on its potent lead LFO line, set to rearrange dances into ruckuses worldwide.

Review: Within the dubstep scene, it's quite hard to not view Von D as anything other than a legend, boasting an incredible back catalogue of classics. He here lands on the fantastic Artikal Music imprint for three tracks of pulsating power, kicking off with the distorted kick shells and metallic percussive presses of the title track 'Obstacles'. Following this, we dive into the incredibly gnarly drum switch ups and sizzling sub textures of 'Goat', before finishing up our voyage on 'Whatevs', a twisted combination of distorted 808 slaps and writhing reesey tones. Awesome work!

Review: As far as dubstep veterans go, Von D holds a special place in steppers history, with a long run of 140 classics under his belt. He here offers two of his more hard hitting recent originals up for remix duty and the combination of Hypho and Moresounds simply could not resist getting involved. Firstly, we hear Hypho's potent rethink of 'Hardcore Dub Music', which alongside featuring some tidy vocal work from Rider Shafique, packs a real classic steppers punch. Following this, we hear Moresounds rebuild 'Frictions' into a more march-ready roller, providing a perfect secret weapon to mash up the dance.

Review: Let's just list the amount of stone cold bass OGs on this collection: Krust, dBridge, Om Unit, Danny Scrilla, V.I.V.E.K, Von D, Moresounds, AU, Oris Jay & Chris Innersound and whole load more of soundsystem culture's most innovative craftsman working at the deepest levels of the low end coalface all feature on this immense and forward thinking document. Including the curator Amit himself. Every track is a highlight, each one and abyssal, immersive experience but essential highlights include the toxic bass bounces of Moresounds' "They Can't Handle It", the 23rd century UKG of Oris and Chris's "They Can't Handle It" and Krust's big screen masterpiece "Escape From Finland". Amit deserves a holiday. Or a massive trophy. Or both. Bass compilations don't get much bigger than this.

Review: Von D's been busy lately, and it's not surprising to us given just how effective this man's strain of dubstep is to the ears of any unsuspecting label owner. The producer brings some dread-out lion vibes to the AMAR imprint, starting off with the heartical steps of "Burn Baphomet", a dark, pounding hammer of bass with the occasional Rasta chant. "Les 12 Colonnes" retains all that excellent jah spirit, except here the rhythm is bouncier, more system-friendly, and no doubt played out by the likes of Iration Steppas or Jah Youth when they're in a mood to step!

Review: This is the first time that Egoless and Von D team up for an EP, but already we can hear them syncing up perfectly thanks to their love for deep and sweltering UK bass. In all honesty, Von D's "Analog Sound" is a traditional dubstep tune, the sort of heavyweight swelter that knocks you from side to side and gets your head nodding from pure kinetic instinct - this will surely go down well at the DMZ showdowns. Egoless' "Bubble Beat" is something slightly different and, although it is also part of the 'classic' dubstep template, the tune breaks that groove pattern into something quirkier, more leftfield and reminiscent of Egoless' other choice material.

Review: Frenchman in London, Von D never fails to add a distinctive sophistication to his dubstep. And this is certainly no exception. His debut on Darkside's evergreen Get Darker imprint, each of the three cuts here bustle with the sexiest shades of traditional dubstep, house and garage. "Deeper" rumbles with a rolling break, emotional synths and delicate vocals from Phephe, "Eyes On You" is a more tribal workout with singed bass and yet more textured, well processed vocals. "Sunflower" finishes the set with a string-shimmered Freddie Hubbard sample. Get Darker? Get "Deeper", more like...
