Review: To celebrate the 11th anniversary of Cologne party My Dear, its resident DJ Dennis Stockhausen has curated this compilation. It's an impressively diverse selection and ranges in sound from the ambience of Rising Sun's "Give" to leftfield tracks from Samo/Kamo and Fantastic Twins. Stockhausen also has an ear for distinctive dance floor tracks; this is evident from his inclusion of the deep techno of Wassermann's "R?slein Rot" and the wonderfully blurry, frazzled groove of Robag Wruhme's "Orugo Major" as Bogdan Marx. With My Dear rooted in the Kompakt stable it's no surprise that pop influences are never too far away, audible here on the seductive harmonic melodies of J?rgen Paape's "In Time".

Review: The man Wolfgang Voight provided some inventive and pioneering techno under his Wassermann guise, one of many. "W.I.R." was released in 2000 and was a driving serving of pop-inflected techno. Frankfurt techno legend Sven Vath also stepped in, assisted by Roman Flugel, to deliver a grinding industrial techno remix that these days could easily be compared to the work of Ancient Methods. Kompakt Records alumni Tobias Thomas and Michael Mayer's remix however is by far the best and encapsulated the label's timeless aesthetic on this wonderful excursion through emotive and ethereal house sounds.

Review: After ten years the Magazine label has managed to coax Wolfgang Voigt's Wasserman project out from the deep. Voigt did release on the label last year under his own name however, presenting the three-track Ruckverzauberung EP, a release that nestled into several 2012 best-of lists. Although the title track is a continuous vamping loop - like a fatigued accordion forced to keep playing - it's hard to deny the track of sublime compositional value. "Dumpfe Tone" has a similar feel to something Vangelis or Jean Michel Jarre might create; only its cheesiness and atonality is something to be taken seriously. Then from Vangelis and Jean Michel Jarre comparisons, "Helle Tone" (dare it be said) shares cadence and structure to the electro swing of Jesse Rose's "Touch My Horn" or the Howling Wolf sampling "Well Now".
