Review: In 2003, amid a shifting landscape of closing record stores and evolving electronic music genres, Phonica Records emerged as a haven for dance and electronic music enthusiasts. Founded by Simon Rigg, Tom Relleen, and Heidi Van Den Amstel with backing from The Vinyl Factory - Phonica aimed to be a welcoming hub for all genres. Starting quietly, the shop gradually gained a strong reputation, fueled by the founders' ties to Koobla Records. Phonica thrived in its early years by championing emerging genres like electro house and minimal-micro house from labels like Kompakt and Perlon. In 2007, the Phonica record label was born, evolving into a platform for both staff and emerging talents, featuring early releases by now-established artists such as Peggy Gou and Four Tet. In 2023, celebrating its 20th anniversary, Phonica showcases its journey with 20 Years Of Phonica - a compilation boasting 18 exclusive tracks from established and rising artists across the label's diverse musical spectrum. Review: This Cardiff/Brighton-based label call themselves Breeze but they're actually more of a typhoon in their energy and approach. It's been proved time and time again with hurricane releases from the likes of HYN, Dreadnaught, Formula, Parallel and many more exciting new names. Now, with a good few years of building their discography with exceptional new-gen talent, comes the remix EP. A whole load of the label's best and brightest, remixed by each other and fellow label kindred spirits. Highlights include Stuss's dramatic sledgehammer twist on Para's 'For You', Nautik's tense and grizzly take on Hyn & Pengo's 'Frequency' and Drowzee's head-twisted rhythm on his rub of 'Selecta'. Review: Sophie "Willow" Wilson previously scored a surprise dancefloor hit with "Feel Me", which was one of the standout cuts on a superb multi-artist EP from Workshop. Happily, the four tracks featured on this debut EP proper for Workshop are equally as alluring. The Manchester-based producer begins with a chunk of spacey, R&B and garage-influenced deep house ("Track 1"), before fusing distant, stop-start percussion hits and heavy bass with her own sweet vocals on "Track 2". She then brings soft-touch harp melodies and subtle drum rhythms of "Track 3", and the wonderfully deep "Track 4", which shuffles along hypnotically on waves of low-slung New Jersey bass, dreamy chords, and heart-warming percussion.

Review: It's a total joy every time Leipzig's mythical Workshop label releases a new EP. After all, they've only released the likes of Kassem Mosse, Lowtec and Even Tuell, among others, in their fine catalogue. This time, however, they've decided to spice things up and put out four tunes by lesser known but rising talents in the house-techno-electronic sphere. The mysterious Willow drops "Feel Me", a hazy, heads-down house joint; London's digi star Tapes comes through with a rather epic jam that is "Somebody's Baby" - Hard Wax themselves have branded it as 'special' - "Villager" by The Horn is a downtempo drum machine flex with moody pads, and MeAndYou's Herron drops the "Lost Track", a winding, chuggy dub-house cut that'll go down a storm in Manchester's Soop Kitchen! Another winner, quality guaranteed.
