Review: On first listen to the eleventh Acid Test release, fans of Tin Man may end up pinching themselves. This is because "Fates Unknown" is dominated by a plaintive piano line and sees the producer's signature acid sound diverted to a minor, supporting role. It sounds like the influence of Jozef K & Winter Son, a production pair from Manchester has prevailed. Erika brings the distinctive 303 sound to the fore on her version of "Fates Unknown", with crashing snares accompanying the building acid. It's only a temporary return to Tin Man's signature though, and on "Pendle By Night", dreamy melodies are to the fore.
Review: Flora Cruz is back. Some of you will remember her powerful vocals on "Let The Sun Shine Out" and the equally amazing remixes of it by Jerome Sydenham back in 2008. This time lending her talents to Jozef K and Winter Son from Manchester and funnily enough; they can really nail that Ibadan peak time house vibe pretty well themselves! "Tribal Rhythm" with its epic in your face synth lead is backed up by a banging rhythm section.. and it's impressive. Hercules & Love Affair's Kim Ann Foxman gets on deck to provide a nifty remix of said track also and gives it an early nineties vibe complete with hip house style beats and Fingers Inc. style melody. Nice one!

Review: The work of a UK duo, "May The Lord Have Mercy..." is the kind of deep, evocative house tune that could easily cross over. Layered chords envelop the driving rhythm and doubled up claps, while eerie chants hover gradually into earshot. It's like Patrice Scott with a twist of 90s prog drama. "Like Falling Angels" is cut from a similar cloth only on this occasion the synths are darker and more menacing, but the same driving rhythm and rattling percussion prevail. Luke Hess gets to grips with the title track, plunging it into a blacked out dub space illuminated only by acid flecks, while Basic Soul Unit turn "Like Falling Angels" into trippy, jacking affair, littered with chopped up vocals and repetitive synth stabs.
