Review: Holy moly to the power of roly-poly; Bristol rave OG Vinyl Junkie feeds our collective jungle fatness fix with this walloping collection of bangers from some of the most consistent, reliable and authentic craftsfolk in the contemporary game. From Conrad Subs to Veak, SuM to Sanxion, Unkoded to Kumarachi to Kickback, this 29-track strong collection of exclusive breakbeat gems sparkles from every perspective as it runs from deep, pensive groove pressure (Ikon B - 'Run With It') to absolutely stinking murk missions (DJ Direkt - 'TestDEAD') with all vibes and grooves in between. Ghetto fabulous.
Review: It appears that the Ghetto Dub Recordings team has assembled one hell of a roster for this one as they unleash the fully unmixed version of the Dubz: ReRubbed album project, allowing us to enjoy each and every tune in its full majesty. We find the perfect balance of high intensity dancefloor danger and more stripped back rollers throughout the compilation, from the Phibes remix of Wrecked from Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion giving us a gritty, synth lead smackdown to the much more junglist inspired recreation of Java's 'Screwface' from Aries. There are a few standouts throughout this eclectic selection, including Epicentre's monstrous sub-driven rework of 'We Up There' from Bill & Ed, alongside Veak's neurotic overhaul of Subcriminal's 'Mack 10' and the system rattling recreation of Flat T's 'Proceedings Closed' from Durban. What a selection this is!
Review: Fifty tracks from Ghetto Dub. We'll repeat that; FIFTY tracks right here from the Bristol badassery stable! Fresh from the stashes of SR, Kumarachi, Aries, Vinyl Junkie, Conrad Subs, Octo Pi and many more on-point junglists across the generations, many of these tracks are brand new and all of them are heavier than a night down the Weight Watchers. Highlights include Conrad Sub's skanky groaner "Good As Gold", Jaguar Paw's utter filth session "Southside", Jay Aftermath's gnarly tech/soundsystem hybrid "The Jungle" and the pure rave purrs of Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion's "Outlandish"... But that's not even touching the sides of the fifty track attack. Dig deep and get rolling.
Review: The Ghetto Dub Recordings imprint make a feisty return here as they bring in X-E-Dos for four monstrous originals. We begin with the industrial drum work and high end synth stabs of 'Mescaline Paranoia', before we hit the stunning drum arrangements and sweeping reeses of 'Flutey'. Next up we hear the more experimental textures and spacey backing synthesis of 'Yosemite' before we finish up with an explosion in 'Jibber', an extra terrestrial composition focussing on distorted 808 stabs and widened break patterns.
Review: Long-standing break merchant X-E-Dos returns to Vinyl Junkie and Rachael EC's Ghetto Dub for more break-addled jungle mischief. Squeezing the dark-vibe-o-meter until it turns blood red, each track is that the cutting edge of jungle Rupture-style. Expect to be flattened by bass oceanic synths and growls on "I Wonder How" while "Possession" will hypnotise with its paranoid arpeggio worming in and out of the sheet metal drums. Elsewhere "We Wil Come" is the sonic equivalent of a wolf pack, ravaging through its latest kill with no sense of decency or manners while "Did You Know" could flatten cars with its rattling snare and dense atmospheres. They often say "Possession" is nine tenths of the law, we reckon it's nine thumbs up.
