Review: Within contemporary techno circles, Reclaim Your City is a revered label - and this split release goes a long way to explaining its appeal. Autonome boss Arkan starts Heimat II with the frosty synths and subtle back beats of "Submarine". Decka changes up the mood on "Circumvent", where a visceral, muddy groove prevails. There's a similar aesthetic on Yant's "Moving". Set to a faster pace, the track resounds to piercing stabs and insistent percussion. Hitam's "Venusian Wind" marks another shift in style. While following a stripped-back sensibility, it sees the emerging producer apply dubbed out influences to an angular rhythm, with devastating impact.

Review: As befits a release on Ben Sims' label, Looking For Light offers the listener a masterclass in crafty, tough techno. Yant, who has only started to release material in the past few years, drops a raw, bleep-heavy workout on "Gas Supply", before moving into a tougher, jacking sound with the building analogue rhythm of "Hot Water". Yant veers into a more intense direction on "Red Eye Jedi", where shuffling, noisy drums are combined with doubled up claps for devastating effect. Rounding off this fine release is the deep chords and driving rhythm of the title track, which sees Yant channel the raw-form energy of vintage Jeff Mills.

Review: Jay Clarke's Blackaxon label welcomes a new name to the fold. Judging on the strength of Cosmic Borders, this is not the last that we will be hearing of Manchester's Yant. "Cosmic Borders (Interlude)" is a chilling piece of ambience, and it gives way to the peak-time, tunnelling rhythm of "Encode the Stick". Coming across like a mix between Mike Parker at his most hypnotic and Sandwell District at their grippiest, it's an impressive piece of techno. "Inner Circle" is more earthy and sees this new producer deliver a firing percussive workout, while "No One" is led by doubled-up claps and a clanging, metallic bass. It's an impressive debut EP.
