Suck It Up

Suck It Up - (5:30) 175 BPM

Zeba - "Malignant" - (4:23) 175 BPM Hot
Review: Pow! Zeba returns with two absolutely disgusting jams right here. 'Suck It Up' is a high energy workout with a bassline that sounds like 6 motorbikes revving in your ears before puked crude oil into them. Currently unstoppable singer/DJ Ekstatic balances out the sickness with a forthright fire. 'Malignant' meanwhile goes even harder with Benny L levels of groan running through the bass textures. Nasty... In all the best ways.

Review: Now here's something big enough to raise both dead and alive ravers: Zombie have gone back through their dusty vaults and unearthed 40 absolute crackers for our enjoyment. Flexing the full release history of the label, over the collection we're reminded of just how many bangers the label has been responsible for... And how many new-gen artists the label has supported over the years. From Jenks to Jfal to Jaxx, Amplify to Zeba, Damage Report to Damageman, 'Tunes From The Tombs Vol 2' is loaded with nothing but uncompromising underground weapons from some of the best in the game. A great chance to get up to speed or fill some holes in your Zombie collection, it's never been a better time to go tomb raiding!

Zeba & Mazie Walsh - "Wasted" - (4:48) 175 BPM
Review: Roll up! Roll up! After a whole slew of releases on the likes of Grid, Klout, Shadow Demon and Zombie, Zeba crashes back to Bagged & Tagged with his biggest release to date: 'The Roll Up', an extensive trip into his abrasive-but-funky sound complete with a few cameo collabos with the likes of J Wilz and Mazie Walsh. Highlights include the uplifting riff and infectious bounce of 'Bumpa', the dark, grizzly funk of 'Take It Slow' and the emotional finale with Mazie Walsh 'Wasted'. And that's just half of this massive release. Big up Zeba.

Whisper - "Don't Be A Fool" - (4:26) 175 BPM
Review: Grid Recordings have been on a bit of a roll of late, bringing together vibrant new compilation projects on quite a regular basis with this latest, fifth volume of their 'That's What We Call Bass!' collection sitting as a super potent weapon. We begin with the nauseating LFO punts of 'I Try' from Jenks (UK) & 7Age, giving us a gritty introductory piece, followed by the super bouncy drum techniques of Pa's 'Blood Clart' and the dissonant, metallic bass sweeps of 'Perfection' from Harley D. Next up, Zeba arrives for and old school shack out on 'Trump Bone', a super melodic exploration into synthesis, chased up by Muzo's more subtle synthetic sweep approach on 'Funky Bits' and some temple slapping 808 action on Burntboi's 'Pull It'. Finally, two last gasp heaters, with Jfal & Twisted Individual linking up for the system-busting synth pulses of 'Window Shifter' and then Whisper's swirling finale in 'Don't Be A Fool', one final synth-driven switch up to slap the project closed. Awesome!

Mi Bredrin - (4:30) 175 BPM
Review: This EP from Zeba is aptly named - Shadow Demon - because that's exactly what it's trying to be, a demon in the night. There are no frills or gimmicks to be found here, just purely heavy dance music laid out over a range of different tempos and beat patterns. We especially love the jagged vibe of 'Woah Yeah', which feels torn out of a different dimension, yanked from its place for our distorted listening pleasure. There's more rhythmic creativity on 'Shoota', which takes the normally pacey drumline of jump up, slows it down and swings it out to create a naughty stepper that'll turn you on your head. 'Mi Bredrin' finishes things off with a final burst of momentum encapsulated in its spaceship of part-jump up, part-neuro dimensions. Brilliant.

Review: Bag it, tag it, tell you mum about it; the B&T massive put together this 15 track collection to celebrate the label's 15th release and it's an all-out showcase of tomorrow's finest talent. Highlights fire from all sides; Ben Snow's 'Fire Iron' is a grunting staccato session of pure savagery, Refracta brings NFM-style melted bass to the fray on 'Embrace', Dunk & Teej get all mobster on us with 'Soprano', Parallel does his old school slap-about thing on 'Communications' and KL's 'Tension' is strong enough to blast us into the 23rd century. Pack your bags and your tags, you've pulled m8.

Review: Young Guns Recordings have a long history of putting out music that takes no prisoners on the dancefloor and, whilst we're still clubless, this four-tracker from Zeba is sure to get your gun fingers raised at home. 'Carry Me Home' is the most interesting of the bunch, with an almost grime like approach to its steppy percussion and structured drum claps that reminds us of Diemantle. The title tune - 'Chemical Warfare' - is the other highlight, with a piercingly choppy synth arrangement that sees jabbing stabs tumble over on another in their haste to mess you around. Big stuff.

Review: Welcome to the warped and wonderful world of Birmingham badman Zeba. His basslines melt around the beats, his sounds are woozy and the grooves knock you sideways; "Bank Rolls" is all about the trippy, misshapen tones and loose swaggering drums, "Bougle Bounce" rides with a wide menu of strange farty bass textures and deliciously clunky breaks while "Alien Bass" sharpen up the bass licks for more of a deadly laser effect. Finally we see him colliding with fellow Brum murker Warhead for epic screaming turbine bass climax "Walk The Walk". Come talk some talk...

Cocaine

Cocaine - (4:26) 175 BPM Hot

Dirty Shoes - (4:29) 175 BPM
Review: Zeba is backing it up over on Bulletproof with a tight sounding single. 'Cocaine' has, admittedly, some slightly questionable sampling but it definitely fits well with the spirit of the tune: a dark, moody jump-up banger with fat synths and that doesn't care about rules and certainly doesn't care about feelings. The main bass on this tune oozes quality and packs some serious weight, reminiscent of the Souped Up crew. 'Dirty Shoes' is slightly less crazy and thereby lacks some of the sophistication but, nevertheless, packs a nice little punch and also smacks of Souped Up sounds. Tasty bits here.

Salt & Vinegar - (4:28) 175 BPM Hot

Doink - (4:39) 175 BPM
Review: Zeba's new single on Klout Recordings isn't one of those releases for people who like to sit back, sip on a mug of matured whisky and debate the stylistic evolution of music. It's not about pretention, it's about having a good time and for that purpose it's ideally suited. Two tracks full of dancefloor vigour, Zeba achieved his presumed goal of making music that'll get people moving. 'Salt & Vinegar' has that Viper-esque forcefulness to its synth lines and 'Doink' hits that suspense in the build perfectly. Top stuff.

Review: Cre8ers gonna Cre8: Blackley rallies up the new-gen troops for another batten hatching riot of riff blazing jump up stampers from allies old and new. Label regulars Ironlung and Danger kick off with "Unknown Object", a high frequency squeezer that wheezes with potent levels of toxicity. What follows is a slew of flabby bassline KO sessions. Highlights include Jack The Ripper's darkside stampage on with "Serious" (a track that certainly lives up to its name) Magenta's funky squelches on "Run It", Zeba's sprightly staccato funk on "Party People" and Yoteii's tightly coiled spring viber "Acid Roller". But the true gem of the set has to be "Freedom" by Fanatics. Horny, funky and loaded with wry humour, file under 'switch flipper'. Yes m8s.
