Review: Over the last few years, Zigan Aldi has carved a niche as a tech-house producer who is not afraid to pepper his productions with mystical instrumentation and humid, intoxicated aural textures. He continues that approach on this solid five-track salvo, alternating between exotic and quietly psychedelic floor-fillers (see opener "Olin", with its tactile European tech-house beats and bazouki style motifs) and slower, even deeper excursions (the dreamy and near horizontal slo-mo house of "Seems to Be". We'd argue that the standout is probably rolling deep house cut "Miracle (featuring Sandeck)", which sounds like the result a dancefloor dream about being high in Turkey, though the bolder, darker and more percussive "In My Face" is almost as impressive.

Review: Thanks to releases from peeps like Kombinat100, Lula Circus, Konfetti Klub Ensemble, and Andre Crom, among others, the Acker imprint is quietly racking up enough catalogue credentials to compete with some of the big boys in the deep house circles. They've decided to switch things up a bit with this new album, deciding to go for a full-blown compilation, masterfully put together by their trusted Pophop. There's tunes from regular label attendees, all reworked from Pophop himself, who drops a gorgeous slice of Afro-rhythmic house in his edit of Il Civetto's "Liberte Ana" as an opener. His remix of "Helva Salva" from Timboletti is also an exquisite deep house bullet, beautifully put together with the help of some acoustic harmonies, but these are just to give you a taster. The man has a very particular remix and edit sound, and you'd be silly not to give this a go. Proper bang for your buck, right here!

Review: Zigan Aldi's music is never less than hazily exotic. His debut EP, 2015's India, added a mystical twist to the European tech-house blueprint. He's at it again here, delivering a humid and intoxicating collection of tracks on Acker. There's much to admire throughout. Check, for example, the oriental instrumentation, shuffling grooves and ghostly vocal snippets of opener "Blue Hill (feat Sandeck)", the drowsily sun-kissed breakdowns, market bazaar samples and chunky beats of "Rosamartha", and the low-slung bass, clipped guitars and melancholic synthesizer motifs of "Blue Hill (Pophop Mix)". Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the release, besides the high-quality threshold, is Aldi's obvious attention to detail.
