Review: Commonly found hanging around on Sewer Tapes, Karmelloz is now on 1080p with his lush and varied electronica styles, largely existing in a downtempo headspace but not afraid to embrace a beat in the right situation. "Indian Architecture" is a wondrous ambient piece with its flute stabs and swirling pads, while "Nasa Boyz" comes on like the kind of disheveled house you might find on Workshop. "Squiggles" may boast a sturdy kick but it's a decidedly mellow affair, but it's still far more structured than the floatation tank bliss out of "Stranded From Pod". With a confident embrace of textures and a keen ear for adventurous melodies, you could do far worse than submit yourself to the headphone-ready delights of Source Localization.

Review: If there is one thing that the 1Forty team know how to do well, it's assemble a well balanced compilation project. This latest addition to their 'Funky & Garage' series, kicks off with an absolute belter from Murder He Wrote entitled 'Honey Riddim', which features funky flavours and a hard hitting vocal appearance from Snowy. Following this, Killjoy continues with the funky theme with some hard hitting rhythmic movements on 'Disturbance', before Smokey Bubblin' B injects a lashing of garage flavour into proceedings with the stripped back design of 'Brock Out'. Finally, the uplifting arrangements and chord progressions of ''Do Me Right' from Wolfe puts the finishing touches on a great body of work.

Review: As always with the fabulous sounds of 1Forty, they have treated us to another high profile compilation, with this being the sixth installment of their highly converted 'Bass' series. We kick off with the niche-inspired LFO rolls and crunchy drum switches of Palize & Killa P's sizzling original 'Duppy Them', which most certainly kick-starts the EP with a powerful slap. That old school flavour continues with 'Bap Bap' as J69 provides a super mucky instrumental for Breeza to provide some laid back party-lyricism. We move into two cracking instrumentals next as Burt Cope steps up firstly with the warbling wonders of 'Cellar', giving us a rave-ready feel, before the more tech-influenced bass processing of 'Pure' sees Badger have a fantastic 1Forty debut.

Review: 1Forty set up here to continue their exceptional run during throughout 2018 by bringing together an exciting collection of artists for the second edition of their 'Funky & Garage' season. Having been previously premiered on the new Threethousand website, we see Killjoy and Smokey 'Bubblin B' lead the way with the super groovy 'Voices In My Head' alongside Shantie and the old school pulse rolls of 'Where's Larry'. We also get gifted a breaksy funky fusion as 9TRANE and Arridim team up on 'Plazma', whilst Cardinal Sound round off an awesome selection with 'Ayy', a carnival special set to turn any dance to a bruckout.

Review: As always with the 81 UK crew, we are in for a bit of an explorative treat with this sizzling new for track showcase from Kahter. We kick off our journey with 'CBD Control', a clicky combination of industrial sounding synthetics and groovy syncopated drum arrangement, giving us a robotic yet charming introduction. Next, the broken-beat rhythms and glitchy bass notation of 'Contagion' give us another sonic avenue to explore, before the intense drum triplets and distant breathy stabs of 'Impendi' again up the pressure. Finally, the stuttering ascending synthetics and grizzly bass drones of 'Spores' give us a punchy outro to a very well rounded collection. Lovely work!

Review: New Swamp 81 this week courtesy of Mancunian DJ/producer Korzi. Been There, Bun That is a continuation of sounds produced recently for Left, Right & Centre or Bone Idol; there's seriously tough UK flavoured bass workouts like "Off Peak", the deep medi psychedelia of "Airfoil" and the off-kilter hypnotic techno of "Call & No Response"- altogether representing the wide range in this ascendant producer's sonic repertoire.

Review: Scottish soundboys Bryan and Batosz follow in the footsteps of My Nu Leng, Hostage, Distro and Transcode with their 877 label debut. Three tracks of premium bass that lend themselves perfectly to tech, deep, breaks, house and dubstep sets, it's an all-out dancefloor demolition; "Kosa" rumbles with understated warped low end messages and an unrelenting kicks, "Conduct" is all about the dagger-sharp steps while "Fallout" hammers home with a 4/4 so crunchy, toxic and industrial environmentalists are rumoured to be setting up a petition to ban it. Good luck to them.

He joins the team with his take on dark and minimal UK funky. He is co-founder of the renowned Southpoint label and is a prolific producer in his own right. From the bombastic bounce of lead track "Jaguar" ( which receives a killer rework by Italian Lorenzo BITW that lunges right for the jugular!) to the fierce and frantic bass attack of "Sukai" - we believe this talented young artist has found his truly comfort zone sonically.

Review: Benny Kane returns to Apexape with a thunderous three track EP, bringing through some serious heat. He hasn't released much as of yet, but we're all very impressed by his funky take on UK bass house, and "FX" itself is a glorious power-tune, dashing out heavy basslines and shuffled garage breaks. "Keep Your Soul Up" is more contained and hazy but nonetheless filthy on the dancefloor and features the lovely vocals of Eva Lazarus, whereas "Selecta" feels like its skunked-out sibling, pulsating with mutant bass and an almost D&B low-end to its core. Large.

Review: Over the last few years, Kieron Ifill aka K15 has been visiting Simbad Stanislas's studio, where they delved deep into conversation, as well as into an arsenal of analogue gear. The result? A revered collection of raw grooves that Apron boss and mutual friend Steven Julien was compelled to share - welcome to Earth State. A collection of deep and mellow urban expressions that blur the lines between, deep house, nu-jazz and neo soul. Smooth broken beat jams such as "Thursday" or "Oceans" feature creamy Rhodes, intricate rhythms and shimmering synths galore, while "Dry Mango pt2" calls to mind the classic vibe of UK broken beat by Bugz In The Attic or Atjazz.
