Ivy Lab - "Sex Latte" - (4:16) 67 BPM
Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Top work all around!

Eprom - "Trust" - (2:53) 62 BPM
Review: Around the world in 12 wubs; Alix Perez's superlative 1985 continues to dig deeper and deeper into our psyche with the third volume of their faultless Atlas VA series. As always, the tempos are set to flexible as we slide and glide between the style and speeds courtesy of some incredible names... Cesco brings some proper dark UKG on 'Superstealth', Sir Hiss gets angular with the electroid funk of 'Shower Man Time', Visages go all slinky and futurist on 'Margit' while the bossman Perez and GLXY link up for something truly sexy and soulful with 'Green Lane'. All this and so much more, from Rockwell & Scepticz to Settle Down to Eprom, this is yet another exceptional adventure from the 1985 crew.

Review: Alix Perez's 1985 sets the bar again... Edition 3 is another instalment of their spotless V/A series which covers the label's broad range of shades. This one is a game of two halves as the first five tracks flex around the 140 region with crucial slabs from Halogenix's Lordel alias and dubstep men of the moment Ternion Sound. Meanwhile the second half flips to D&B with a whole clutch of impressive designs; Visages' "Memories" is a mournful stepper, Bredren get bad-ass with the thumpy, bumpy "Only One", Machinedrum brings some outstanding soul on "Braided Leaves" and Perez delivers three of his finest. Bring on Edition 4.

Review: The mighty Vision step forth with another humungous Mission VA collection, once again shining the brightest spotlight on some of the most exciting corners of bass music across the globe. Reading like a who's who in innovative production, the collection ranges from utter gutter-chomping filth from the likes of S Murk and Monuman to hurricane sonics by the likes of Current Value and Forbidden Society. Special moments can be found on each and every twist and turn the collection takes from UFO and Bro Safari's brand new project ET Finger to the new technoid inspired alias of Hybris - Pruvan. Absolutely sublime; here's to more future Missions.

Club Wonk - (3:18) 65 BPM
Review: Next up on Pretty Weird, we continue to explore exactly what it says on the tin as Villager brings forward a very peculiar collection of original soundscapes, kicking off with the droning synth textures and stuttered overlays of 'Siren Hymm', giving us a vibrant yet melancholy introduction. From here, the bubbling 2-stepper drums and crunchy rhythmic switches of 'Chlorophyll' provide a perfect bass for more unusual melodic inputs, followed by a more industrial run down in the blippy backdrops of 'Joint Resolution'. From here we dive into another glitchy display, this time taking a front facing UKG approach as 'In Town' combines sweet vocal textures with unusual percussive pops, before the aquatic bass squelches of title track 'Club Wonk' are let loose to play. Finally, the hardcore heads are in for a treat, as more skippy drums and unorthodox effects are glued together by a detuned synth stutter on 'Rave Bender', giving us an interesting closer to say the least!

Review: With work heavily influenced by the percussive UK styles of jungle, garage and bassline, London by-way-of Huddersfield's Compliments is a non-binary dance music producer presenting their newest release on London's Mantissa label. Beginning with the pounding heads down techno of "Sweat Chimney", they throw the next curveball in the form of the junglist roller "Debt Of Androgyny", then for something more low-key there's the slow burning and bass-driven fury of "I'd Rather Play Than Talk About It". Bristol's Bex closes out the EP with a stepping techno remix.

Alix Perez & Headland - "Ends" - (4:42) 67 BPM
Review: So at this point in time, it's hard to imagine Alix Perez making a stale tune, as he lands here on the wonderful 1985 music for another twisted collection of heaters. We kick this one off with a look at the spooky overtones and warbling synthesizer growls of 'Ravana', before the shivering LFO designs and glitchy melodic plucks of 'Lifeline' stutter into play. Next, 'Post-Mortem' arrives with more lethal reese bass action driving the stripped back drumwork forward in a blaze of system energy, before rounding off with the catchy arpeggiator flexes of 'Ends' alongside Headland. What a project this is!

Review: Overmono unleashes their debut album here on XL Recordings. This album represents a remarkable culmination of their musical journey so far with 12 compelling tracks, with brothers Tom & Ed Russell taking listeners on a captivating sonic odyssey that seamlessly blends a diverse range of electronic genres. 'Good Lies' showcases their impeccable sound design and experimental approach: from the evocative vocal-led breaks of the title track, or the glassy-eyed IDM of "Walk Thru Water" feat. St. Panther, to the infectious 2-step attitude of "Is U" and the future UK sonics of "Calling Out" - this is the sound of one of the most original contemporary live electronic acts.

Hide Sun - (2:56) 58 BPM
Review: The Vision Recordings crew have once again unearthed a weighty box of gems with this new three tracker, seeing the combined powers of both Machinedrum & Holly for a dive into steppers abandon. We open up with the crunchy synth warbles and unorthodox vocal work of 'Novaform', a truly unique arrangement that packs both a subby gut punch and a midrange hook to match. Next, 'Blueshift' strips the instrumentation back a tad for a more fluttery original, focussing on emotive melodies and clicky percussion, before the sounds of 'Hide Sun' arrive for one final showdown, delivering a choppy, jungle-inspired slammer, doused in euphoric pad textures and tidy sampling for a killer final slap. Awesome work

Memories - (4:44) 56 BPM
Review: Sully's latest swansong has been stimulating murmurs of excitement over the last few months, the type of hype that you get rarely enough to know it means something special. Swandive has landed on Fracture's Astrophonica and the result is a four-tracker of potent creativity, a crashing jungle release that blends the genre's recognisable core with a heady dose of experimentation. Its title tune is the best example; a fractious melee of elbows and knees, a perfectly judged progression from spacey pads to all-encompassing percussive persuasion. It's really hard to describe this track as it's like nothing else you'll have heard before, but it lays down the law for the rest of the EP and 'Werk' is especially good as well. Unbelievable Jeff.

Review: The run that the Manuka brand has been on over the last 2 years has been nothing short of excellent, with this latest offering from head honcho: Hypho and the explosive production techniques of Chef Boyarbeatz giving us three new spicy rollers. First up, an absolute devastator of an anthem from the pair as 'Smokers Club' sees a lethal combination of writhing LFO sweeps and hard hitting sublines deployed for a legendary combination. Next, Hypho steps out on solo duty for the warbling swampy subs of 'Akanum', giving us a slightly different feeling, before the dungeon-heavy epic of 'SELECTAH' sees Chef Boyarbeatz deliver a spine-tingling display. Very tidy indeed.

Review: Since their label inception back in 2018, the team over at Wisdom Teeth have done a great job at both cultivating and innovative forward thinking electronic music, with their roster featuring a number of true veterans of the game. This latest compilation takes the title 'Club Moss' and sees them assemble 14 fiery original creations, featuring the likes of Facta, K-Lone, Maya Q, LUXE, Purelink and more, all of whomst deliver naught but quality in their chosen creations. For us, despite this being a longer project, there are two clear standout recordings, the first of which is of course Cousin's atmospheric drifter in 'Tooth 4 Tooth' which gives us a spacious, exploratory feel. Alongside this, the moogy sub bounces of Tammo Hesselink's 'Cupboard Cylinder Salon' original also tops the list for us, showcasing the variation of styles that sits within the Wisdom Teeth camp.

Review: On 2012's Luxury Problems, Andy Stott delivered his most rewarding work yet - an impeccable exploration of the twin attractions of lightness and darkness that was near impossible to pigeonhole. Faith In Strangers, that album's belated follow-up, is similarly minded. Peppered with audible references to his many inspirations - field recordings, found sounds, dub techno, IDM, ambient, post-dubstep and trip-hop, in particular - it's a set that quietly drifts between sludgy dreaminess and pin-sharp late night horror. As such, it's an inspired set, with Stott's use of odd instrumentation and the evocative vocals of Alison Skidmore significantly enhancing the experience.

Review: Over the years we have become very used to Om Unit supplying us with some of the most experimental musical creations out there. This brand new album entitled 'Acid Dub Stories' is the embodiment of that refusal to fall into line, with the tracklisting exploring electronic music production in a way we have never heard before. There is distinctly retro feel about the general arrangement of the project, from the moogy synthesizer action of 'Ghosts' and 'Bristol Theme' to the more spacious use of pad textures in 'Dissolved' and 'Celestial Envoy', It's impossible to define the project within any singular bracket, with it being best described as a masterpiece in digital sound design. Other highlights include the constantly alternating melodic structures of 'The Struggle' and the digital dubwise vibes of 'Circled'. Amazing work!

Review: Whenever the futuristic mastery of Om Unit touches down, we know it's time to turn our heads as he once again delivers a masterful box of tricks on this brand new 'Atlantis' collection. We begin with the stunning acidic dubwise fusion of 'Prophecy', taking original rootsy vocal samples and chord progression and tying them together with urgent horns and moogy bass notes for a sumptuous showdown. Next, the industrial drum thumps and post-breaks rhythms of 'Forward' march into play, with a return to the acid then looming with the bubbling bass tones of 'Deadnettle'. Finally, a hardcore inspired drum-driven spinner in 'Amber' closes the EP out in style, fusing fluttering synths with groovy sublow energy, putting the finishing touches on a very well thought out collection.

This second V/A project under 'The Session' title sees the likes of Occult, Synkro, Versa, Sunpal and many more make their return, all delivering sonic-masterclasses across UKG, bass and dubstep themes. With exclusive cuts and versions firing from all the label's most consistent contributors, it covers all relative corners creatively; from Killjoy's gameshow grime "Turnt Ones VIP" to the chiselled, sinewy two-steps of Terror Danjah & Zed Bias's "Telepathy" via the sheet metal snares on Flava D's "Break", this collection goes further than representing a forward-thinking imprint but also documents exactly where bass music is heading in the future. Review: Next up from Stones Taro, a dive into a much more UK-funky inspired pocket as NC4K hold a real party across this wicked new four tracker. We begin with the Raggamuffin mix of 'Got Funk', a drum-heavy twitch through pulsating synth drives and groove-inspiring rhythms, followed closely by the much heavier kick drum stomps and subtle breaksy chops of 'Non Sticky'. After the first two, it's clear that the energy levels are super high, with the scattered bass drones and skippy percussion of '5th Way' then continuing that theme, before the title track 'Stoned Camel gives us some more laid back energy for a floaty finale.

Doctor Jeep & Grove - "Deep Red" (J:Kenzo's London remix) - (4:10) 57 BPM Hot
Review: Longtime friend of Worst Behavior, Doctor Jeep, drops the electrifying "Deep Red" EP, showcasing his signature versatility and collaborative spirit. This NYC-based producer, known for his dancefloor-igniting beats and genre-bending explorations, delivers a diverse sonic journey across four tracks. "Deep Red" kicks things off with the infectious title track, a collaboration with UK artist Grove. Grove's punk-infused energy and appreciation for soundsystem culture merge seamlessly with Doctor Jeep's production prowess, resulting in a head-turning banger. Further collaborations unfold with Australian producer Hedchef, known for his off-kilter club constructions. "I'm Rushing" blends breakbeat rave energy with a futuristic twist, guaranteed to keep bodies moving with its rolling grooves and wonky basslines. In "Hammerhead," Doctor Jeep pays homage to his Brazilian heritage by weaving Brazilian vocals with electro elements and a sparse, heavy beat reminiscent of club and grime influences. Next, Doctor Jeep delves into halftime territory with "Destroyer," a collaboration with Canadian producer Tamarak. The track builds slowly and deliberately, layering intricate techy breaks and percussion over a minimal soundscape. To close this EP, "Deep Red," receives a dubstep makeover courtesy of J:Kenzo. This high-energy remix transforms the original into a driving jungle and drum & bass beast. A genre-bending cracker here!

The dude's back with some proper fire, kicking off with the raved-out bleeps and digi sounds of "Back To Basics", followed by some nasty, true-school 303 acid that is sounding PHAT on our speakers! Review: UK deep broken beat nu-jazz shenanigans from one very talented young producer named William Florelle with the Two & Three EP for Wot Not. First track "As The Sun Sets" is some jagged and soulful deepness that follows in the tradition on Kaidi Tatham, 4hero or Recloose. Other tracks "Next Time I'll Learn" or "Follow" are deeper R&B jams with sultry vocals accompanied by dusty blunted beats; but all rather evocative. Then there is some great remixes but we were particularly fond of K15's rather Detroit sounding remix of "Next Time I'll Learn" that had that real Theo Parrish or Rick Wilhite kinda vibe about it. Hotlanta's Stefan Ringer handing in a fairly nifty rendition of "Follow".

Review: Jamaica's Equiknoxx have spent the last decade re-inventing dancehall for the 21st century, delivering a swathe of releases that look further afield than Kingston for inspiration. Bird Sound Power is, somewhat surprisingly, their first appearance on vinyl, and sees them pop up on Demdike Stare's experimentally-minded DDS imprint. Featuring a mix of brand new cuts and previously released - but largely unknown - jams, it's a set that impresses with both its' rhythmic dexterity, and its' obvious inventiveness. Their 'riddims' veer from the punchy and rolling to the weird and out-there, with cute electronic flourishes, IDM influences, ambient chords and trill birdsong all adding to the humid, thrill-a-minute mood.

Review: In the dubstep halls of fame, there really are few people who can be held to such high acclaim as Kromestar. The London based musical pioneer has put together over a decade of celebrated releases spanning from soulful to downright dirt. This latest LP comes alongside the sounds of Danny Scrilla as the pair explore the expanse of emotive electronic music. The LP moves fluidly from the slower 4x4 sounds of 'Aurora' and the soundscape magnificence of 'Glare' into the more classic dubstep sounds of 'Glacial' and 'Saturns Ring'. Overall this project showcases just how creative and intuitive electronic music can be when the soul is poured into it!
