Review: The team at Dirty Kitchen rave have done a great job over the recent months in uncovering and showcasing some of the most exciting new breakbeat action about, with this latest compilation being the second of their 'WE ARE DKR' series. Featuring the likes of Phrentic, Skin Teeth, Skitzoid, Zero Dark and more, we can see that this project packs a serious punch, exploring the full spectrum of modern breakbeat ideas. Our highlights that have an immediate standout would have to include Ale-DarkNoise's heavyweight 'Pump Up' arrangement, a super vibrant thunder drop, alongside the more liquefied synth work of Zero Dark's 'Losing You'.

Review: Four40 have been known for their cultivation of talent since their inception, with this latest offering seeing the monstrous flavours of bullet tooth land for a much awaiting link up. Across these five tracks, we see exactly what bullet tooth is all about, with the moody sub pulses of 'Your Love' and crunching drum stutters of 'Immaculate Skank' giving us a truly vibrant experience. Killa P then touches down for a hard hitting vocal performance on the heavily syncopated slides of 'Brand New Day', followed by the pacey breaks-driven drum lines of 'Love Sensation'. Finally, we round off with a more subtle piece of soundscaping entitled 'Signal', bringing a touch of calm to bring this awesome debut drop to a close.

Review: Sneaker Social Club unveils Ivy Lab's latest offering deepening the duo's evolution from their drum and bass roots. Comprised of Gove Kidao and Jon Fogel, this Mild EP, born from a purposeful break in 2023 to experiment freely in the studio, presents a potent mix of jungle and drum and bass influences, intertwined with footwork elements and Ivy Lab's unique sound design. Tracks like "Look Away" and "N.V.T 01" showcase their knack for combining rugged bass weight with innovative production techniques, while "Kik Bak" delivers an acutely angled, pitched-up rap attack to further galvanise their radical sound.

Review: The 1985 team have consistently delivered a top notch array of both neurotic D&B flavours and lethal dubstep collections, with this latest offering from Cesco being another great addition to their 140 arm. First up, 'GITP', is an anthemic opener, taking a super catchy vocal line and layering it with silky synthetic magic, before Bidl joins the party on 'Overdue', a behemoth-like bounce through gnarly reeses and fragrant low ends. Next, a more juke-inspired switch up as 'Up The Place' unloads high energy drum rolls and more vocal slices, before Hamdi touches down for a ferocious collaboration in 'Swing King', a final bulbous barge to close things off in style.

Review: The Glue EP by Irish power duo features two new tracks embodying the same dramatic and evocative vibes from their recent, highly acclaimed self titled album. The title track here unashamedly explores rave nostalgia, with its tough breakbeats, euphoric chord progressions and gated vocal samples taking you all the way back to '92. "Metro" uses phased acid house style drum patterns with roaring rave synth leads on this slow burning but heavily building dancefloor destroyer. Finally "DLR" soundtracks those divine moments of truth loved up in the chill-out tent, with this emotive ambient house cut with a nice tint of 303 acid for good measure that's reminiscent of classics by Orbital et al.

Review: The crew over at Dirty Kitchen Rave HQ must be fully aware that they have struck solid gold with this latest collection from Doc Zee, delivering two originals and a vibrant remix, exploring the modernised breaks sound in its full majesty. First up, the title track 'Bassquake' packs a momentous punch, flipping between jittering vocal overlays and growling synthetic patterns below, before Skin Teeth gets busy with a super hectic overhaul, giving it an industrial twist to say the least. Finally, 'Condition' takes a much calmer approach, sampling classic hip hop vocals and nostalgic chord progressions for a smoothened finale.

Review: Next up from MPH, a trip over to AEI for another dance-inspiring five track outing, exploring the most fragrant areas of new school garage music from start to finish. We open up with the late-coming summer sounds of 'Crash & Burn', a beautiful link up with Lauren L'aimant, who lets fly a palpable box of vocal tricks. Next, a more breaks-driven idea as 'Overrated' sees chopped up drums and staunch subs meet, with the bouncy basslines of 'Show Me' and more subtle drum sweeps of 'Promise' then following in hot pursuit. We then check out the finale for the EP in 'Bad Day', a sumptuous combination of wistful vocals and tidily arranged drums, giving us a softened touch down to close.

Review: Long live team Alpha Pup, an excellently organised project that have moved onto the third edition of their epic '20/20' compilation series, exploring the most lethal reaches of underground bass music. Featuring hard hitting originals from the likes of Ivy Lab, Dismantle, Rocks FOE, Bakey and more, it's clear that the team have gone all out on this collection, with sounds ranging as wide as the hardcore inspired mysticism of 'Naananaana' from Rohaan, to the industrial techno-flavours of Ila Brugal's 'Cynical'. The whole project packs a punch, but our highlights would have to include both the intense metallic madness of Deft's 'OKURTHEEXPERT', alongside Manni Dee's monstrous 'Wet Slide' creation. Top work all around!

Review: Next up from eatmybeat, a vibrant collection of percussive-driven rollers from the one and only D-Nite, showcasing his crazy ability with some top level production skills. We open up with 'Ominous Arrival', a fluctuating combination of high energy rhythms and subtle vocal samples, followed by both the industrial synth thumps of 'Sine DNA' and arpeggio-lead soundscaping of 'Circular' to follow. From here we then move into the highly unique title track 'Ai Amor', a glorious roll through samba-style drum patterns and catchy vocal slices, followed by the bleeping synth sweeps of 'Amargo' to close off. Awesome work!

Cesco brings some proper dark UKG on 'Superstealth', Sir Hiss gets angular with the electroid funk of 'Shower Man Time', Visages go all slinky and futurist on 'Margit' while the bossman Perez and GLXY link up for something truly sexy and soulful with 'Green Lane'. All this and so much more, from Rockwell & Scepticz to Settle Down to Eprom, this is yet another exceptional adventure from the 1985 crew.

Review: Alix Perez's 1985 sets the bar again... Edition 3 is another instalment of their spotless V/A series which covers the label's broad range of shades. This one is a game of two halves as the first five tracks flex around the 140 region with crucial slabs from Halogenix's Lordel alias and dubstep men of the moment Ternion Sound. Meanwhile the second half flips to D&B with a whole clutch of impressive designs; Visages' "Memories" is a mournful stepper, Bredren get bad-ass with the thumpy, bumpy "Only One", Machinedrum brings some outstanding soul on "Braided Leaves" and Perez delivers three of his finest. Bring on Edition 4.

Review: As always with the now infamous 1985 Music imprint, they have assembled the great and good to explore the darker realms of electronic dance music, primarily focussing on dubstep and neurotic drum and bass flavour through this fabulous new 'Atlas' compilation. The names involved are pretty mind-blowing with a roster including the likes of Alix Perez, Drone, Headland, Foreign Concept, Safire, DRS and many more heavyweight names. The entire project has a touch of finesse and musical class about it, from the beautifully processed drum clanks of 'Nibiru' from Visages to the stunning vocal processing of 'Do Me No Good' from Nymfo. There really isn't a low point to this project with the sweeping soundscapes and electronic destruction of Deft's 'Scars' original being a real high point for us!

Review: The long awaited, self titled debut album from Irish power duo Bicep is the perfect summation of their career to date. Matt McBriar and Andy Ferguson have created a singular and unique album, founded on the blueprint of classic house, techno, electro and Italo disco: but all the time bearing their unique signature. The duo felt that UK institution Ninja Tune was a perfect fit for them and gave them the total freedom to express themselves artistically, describing the label's broad scope that has, in turn, helped them to thrive. They display a strong technicality and a desire to experiment, but still with a melodic touch which runs throughout the entire record. It is this approach to creativity which has allowed Bicep to establish a unique position in the industry, in the face of a crowded global dance stage.

Review: For the next edition of Banoffee Pies, Pugilist leaps out with give tracks of drum-heavy abandon, launching with the breaks-laced 'Deja Vu', dipped in warm chord progressions and sweeping harmonics above, before we here 'Future Retro' rework a dubwise vocal line into a nostalgic hardcore epic. Next, 'Static' arrives right on cue with a bubbling display of Amazonian drum rhythms and floating atmospherics, with the industrial drum switches and moogy synth pulses of 'Sky Blue' following closely behind. This project is a fantastic look into the varying states of Pugilist's instrumental influences, with the final track 'Illumination' exploring the more dancefloor orientated side of his spectrum, combining sweeping synth lines and shuffling 2-step drums for a perfect finale.

Review: Next up on Pretty Weird, we continue to explore exactly what it says on the tin as Villager brings forward a very peculiar collection of original soundscapes, kicking off with the droning synth textures and stuttered overlays of 'Siren Hymm', giving us a vibrant yet melancholy introduction. From here, the bubbling 2-stepper drums and crunchy rhythmic switches of 'Chlorophyll' provide a perfect bass for more unusual melodic inputs, followed by a more industrial run down in the blippy backdrops of 'Joint Resolution'. From here we dive into another glitchy display, this time taking a front facing UKG approach as 'In Town' combines sweet vocal textures with unusual percussive pops, before the aquatic bass squelches of title track 'Club Wonk' are let loose to play. Finally, the hardcore heads are in for a treat, as more skippy drums and unorthodox effects are glued together by a detuned synth stutter on 'Rave Bender', giving us an interesting closer to say the least!

Review: The BangersOnly crew have done a great job of assembling six absolute heaters here as they welcome the ever-ready Justin Jay inside to showcase the full range of his dancefloor capabilities. 'Monster' kicks us off with a choppy sweep through hard core synths and constantly revolving drum slaps, with the heavy low ended kick pulses of 'I Make' and more dungeon-inspired percussion of 'Go Up' alongside Berg then sending us down a newly booming avenue. It gets very vibrant from here on out, with 'Chloe' unloading a box of synthetic wizardry, keeping every listener firmly on their toes before the acidic moog pulses of 'Coming Back' and jittering 4x4 textures of 'Zappy' see the EP out in style.

Review: It's been a while since Neil Landstrumm appeared on Sneaker Social Club. As always, this EP is reflective of his singular presence in modern electronic music. Both "Bravery" and "The Hawk" are quite different to the coruscating techno that Landstrumm made his name with back in the day, but many of the same cues remain. The rave tones, splurging bass and seething percussion now resound to a slower, stepping pace - but they still pack a mighty punch. In contrast, "Respect the Deal" is redolent of his peerless Restaurant of Assassins album, but with rolling break beats anchoring the lurching bass. Keeping the listener guessing, "The Prisoner" reveals a more contemplative side to Landstrumm's productions.

Review: Whenever the crew over at Flightpath set off on the runway, we know things are likely to take off in some way shape or form, with this awesome new collaborative collection from Dawn Razor & Confluence delivering a tonne of character from back to front. First up, 'Caramel Hive' fuses moogy basslines with steadily enhancing percussive runs for a jittery introduction, as the more retro-sounding drum ideas of 'Decollerate' follow for an immediate switch up. We then move into an even more unique area as the synthetic creepiness of 'Evil From The Deep' is let loose, focussing on old school rave synths and choppy rhythms in fusion, before Dawn Razor steps out for a solo finale in 'Dirgedriver', a more euphoric direction to close out this very impressive EP in style.

Review: With work heavily influenced by the percussive UK styles of jungle, garage and bassline, London by-way-of Huddersfield's Compliments is a non-binary dance music producer presenting their newest release on London's Mantissa label. Beginning with the pounding heads down techno of "Sweat Chimney", they throw the next curveball in the form of the junglist roller "Debt Of Androgyny", then for something more low-key there's the slow burning and bass-driven fury of "I'd Rather Play Than Talk About It". Review: So at this point in time, it's hard to imagine Alix Perez making a stale tune, as he lands here on the wonderful 1985 music for another twisted collection of heaters. We kick this one off with a look at the spooky overtones and warbling synthesizer growls of 'Ravana', before the shivering LFO designs and glitchy melodic plucks of 'Lifeline' stutter into play. Next, 'Post-Mortem' arrives with more lethal reese bass action driving the stripped back drumwork forward in a blaze of system energy, before rounding off with the catchy arpeggiator flexes of 'Ends' alongside Headland. What a project this is!

Review: It's not outlandish to suggest that a collaborative display from both Alix Perez and Headland, two of the most innovative in the game, would cause a serious riot. Across eight tracks of genuine sonic wizardry, we explore the deepest and darkest realms of electronic sound design, from the murky synthesiser players of both 'Mirage' Parts 1 & 2, alongside the earth-shattering sub squelches of 'Shuriken' and mind-numbing rhythmic approach of '1024'. It's a truly wondrous collection, pushing the boundaries of sound design to entirely new realms, with our highlights including the uniquely designed flutters of 'Coco', the gut punching subs of 'Elk's Point', the unique rhythmic jolts of 'Hellion' and of course 'The Grove' in all of it's breathy beauty.
