Review: Whenever we see Deadly Habitz back in action, we get a little bit excited to say the least, with this latest four tracker on Lost City Archives providing us with instant jitters. We begin with the nostalgia-inducing chords and groovy vocal overlays of 'Henney & Coke', an instant rave-ready rinseout, with 'Got Me Burning' then providing a more niche-inspired 4x4 splatter. We jump into more 2-step inspired switch ups next as 'Happy Daze' unleashes a smoothened sweep through choppy vocal slices and booming subs below, with the rough-house bass rolls of 'It's The Way' then giving us a smoothened outro, closing out the tracklisting with a certified slap of original garage tang.

Review: A four-tracker here from Chewy Rubs, coming on his own Bandolier label and operating, as the title suggests, at a slightly lower tempo than is his wont. The EP opens with 'Acid Chugger', whose very name kindly saves yours truly having to think of what to say about it! 'Fro Mo' is another midpaced affair topped with dialogue samples, 'Jazz Cat' opens with a "this is a how it should be done" vocal sample (the first of many) and has a party-hearty, Jalapeno-esque feel, before finally we come to 'Something For Your Soul', another chugging, throbbing affair with treated, spoken vocal snips and lashings of acid bass.

Review: Here's something we didn't expect: a Nu Groove label debut from original breakbeat-house hero - and for a long time Layo's right-hand man - Matthew 'Bushwacka' B. Sonically it makes perfect sense, though, because the four cuts on show seem to have been inspired by the label's glory days in the late '80s and early '90s, as well as vintage UK deep house. 'Strictly Nu' is a rolling, sweat-soaked builder smothered in dreamy chords and underpinned by rubbery, oscillating synth-bass, while 'Love Can You' joins the dots between the Burrell Brothers and glassy-eyed warehouse dancefloors at 5am. 'Right Now' sees him blend his own funk-fuelled breakbeat-house rhythms with fluttering flute solos, loved-up vocal samples and warm chords, while 'True For You' is as gorgeous as it is tough and peak-time ready.

Review: It's clear to all who follow electronic music with any level of regularity that Om Unit has become one of the most consistently impressive names to follow, with the last decade of work showcasing creativity and sonic innovation with every new outing. This latest 'Fragments' album project sees those talents again at work, from the moogy bass flicks on 'Snagged' to the icey soundscaping of 'Entity' and super sharp drum processing of 'Side Quest'. This album showcases mastery at work, with Om Unit again proving to be a level above those around him, with highlights including the colourful melodic squelches of 'Moonglade' and breaks-inspired energy-boosting qualities of 'Hard Skin'. Top work, as always!

Review: Amentec have done a great job in assembling this top level collection of new school breakbeat action, welcoming no less than 14 artists inside across 13 hard hitting creations. The exciting thing about the project is that it leaves no breaks-inspired stone unturned, featuring the likes of Sound Synthesis, Inkipak, DAWL, Flatliner and more. From the intense, arcade style arrangements of Sub Oscillator's 'Ketzer' remix from Difool, to the more abstract acidity of Bobo's bulging 'Club Proxima', we see such an exciting range on display. Our highlights therefore have to include both the classy club-ready bops of Ova Doce's 'Keep On', next to the cloud-lining euphoria of MOY's 'Jovian Sunrise'. A truly top quality collection.

Review: Another top quality drop here from Amen Brother, a breakbeat label that continues to impress with their high octane roster out in full force. This time around, DJ Pooch is on hand to unleash four high energy creations, opening with the 2023 mix of 'Mind, Body & Soul', a thumping, carnival ready ramp up that focuses both on gritty bass notation and eerie vocal overlays, before 'Rush On Me' takes a classic 'Dibby Dibby Sound' vocal and lets it loose over an old school hardcore arrangement. Next up, 'I Need U' unloads a more old school feel, focussing on organic drum sounds and euphoric synth lines, before the chirpy chord progressions and acidic basslines of 'Hypnotising' close us off with a bang.

Review: Bass Agenda Recordings have struck gold with this latest mission as they welcome the explosive production skill sets of Orlando Voorn inside for three hard hitting breaksy originals, jam-packed with originality from start to finish. We begin with the slumberous rhythmic twists and packed out sub sections of 'Hunting Season', a technophone's nightmare, stuffed to the brim with bleeps and crashes. From here, 'Quick Thinking' then delivers something a little more industrial, focussing on pacey bass bumps and skippy drum sweeps, before the emotive melodies and tooting horn lines of 'The Point Of No Return' arrives for a hard hitting finale. Top stuff indeed!

To mark the occasion, the Bristol-based imprint has offered up this vast, 34-track compilation featuring new and unheard cuts from its ever-expanding family of artists. Naturally, it not only reflects Shall Not Fade's output, but also that of its various offshoots and series. Review: Whenever we see a new entry from the Time Is Now crew, we know it's time to pull on our dancing shoes and turn up the energy, with this latest three track collection from DJ Crisps being a seriously spicy box of rave-inspired goodness. We open up with 'You Stay On My Mind', a vocal-infused sweep through big room drum work and airy pads in the background, culminating in a 2-step slammer to turn the dance into a zoo. On the flip to this, we then get to explore 'Never Gonna Stop', a chord driven slink through American vocal slices and smooth sublines, with the abstract sine-wave pulses of 'Flat Bass' then taking the EP down a more industrial route. For its crunchy finale, the project then rounds off with the tidy percussive skips and distant reverberations of 'Critical Theory' as the Time Is Now crew continue to cook.

Review: With the catalogue that the Cuttin' It Fine team have both assembled and keep adding to, it's hard to expect anything less than exceptional with every release. They deliver another set of four breakbeat belters, courtesy of both El Bomba & Roast Beatz. First up, El Bomba delivers a dancefloor-ready funk out in 'Take A Break', a lively combo of sharp drum slaps and lip-curling basslines, before Roast Beatz the energy with the groovy guitar plucks and singalong vocals of 'Party Over Here'. Back to El Bomba next as the classic sounding guitar melodies and unpredictable drum shakes of 'Bronco Funk' tone down the madness a tad, before rounding off with anthem-like arrangements of 'Get On Down' from Roast Beatz, boasting a showstopper of a bassline, draped in pleasing horn switches and tidy vocal chops for good measure.

Review: Laurent Garnier and Scan X's label does a great job in showcasing emerging and established talent, and this split release is no exception. The brilliantly named Return Of The Luddites deliver the raw electro-techno of "Scream Into The Darkness". In stark contrast, Detroit techno-inspired tracks also loom large, courtesy of Skatman's string-filled "Tribute To A Dancefloor" and Squal G's more ominous "Waiting 4U". Mirroring Garnier's own wide-ranging tastes, the release also features the call and response hip-hop/drum'n'bass crossover of Joaquim Plossu, Salem Focus and Phoebe Train's "Theory Of The Tide". Taking the tempo down, Yes Basketball's "Next" is a slowed down, bugged out beatsy track.

Review: It's always a pleasure to see Gutterfunk back in business, with this new four tracker from Protect Ryan being a welcome addition to their innovative catalogue of underground dance music. We are introduced to the project with 'DJ Weddings & Receptions', a glorious mix and match of nostalgic chord pumps, scattered rhythms and moogy bass pulses, injecting an overdose of energy right from the jump. Next, the sweeping pads and again lively breaks designs on 'Contact' give us a much more typical breakbeat roller, before 'Habitual Stepper' showcases some of the tightest drum processing we have heard in a hot minute, as we hear rhythmic mastery on display. Finally, a much more uncouth addition as 'Fleshlights (Bang Right?)' unleashes a furious display of choppy breaks and acidic synthesis, giving the EP a final touch of unorthodox flavour to round it off with a bang.

Review: Manchester-based Loz Goddard returns to the spotlight in celebration of Dirt Crew Recordings 20th anniversary (Dirt Crew Recordings - 20 years? No way!). It marks a comeback for the producer after a notable debut collaboration with Harry Wolfman in 2016. Known for his unique blend of electronica, deep soundscapes and lush and organic deep house, Goddard has graced labels like Oath, Razor N Tape and Church on his musical journey, presenting here for DT a captivating mini-album featuring beautifully crafted ambient and electronica pieces alongside three energetic tracks. Inspired by a night at the White Hotel in Salford watching Skee Mask, Goddard goes deep on six compositions, offering listeners a journey through a new age sound of house to prick the ears of Legowelt fans for sure. Review: The crew over at Dirty Kitchen Rave HQ must be fully aware that they have struck solid gold with this latest collection from Doc Zee, delivering two originals and a vibrant remix, exploring the modernised breaks sound in its full majesty. First up, the title track 'Bassquake' packs a momentous punch, flipping between jittering vocal overlays and growling synthetic patterns below, before Skin Teeth gets busy with a super hectic overhaul, giving it an industrial twist to say the least. Finally, 'Condition' takes a much calmer approach, sampling classic hip hop vocals and nostalgic chord progressions for a smoothened finale.

Review: Tristan Hallis brings his "progressive traditionalist" DJ Boring project to Running Back for the very first time. It's a big look for Gerd Janson's label and Hallis has duly delivered a quintet of treats in his now trademark style. 'Beautiful Strangers', a dreamy, tactile and bleeping chunk of pitched up vocal-sporting dancefloor bliss, kicks things off, before Hallis opts for a bouncier, piano-sporting vibe on the rushing peak-time joy of 'Can't Fix a Broken Heart'. There's more of a sub-heavy, garage-influenced swing to 'When I'm With You (featuring Jasoer Tygner)', while 'False Attraction' is a locked-in treat that boasts two lengthy, saucer-eyed breakdowns. Hallis rounds off another rock-solid EP via the lo-fi breaks of 'Memories Fade'.
