Review: A four-tracker here from Chewy Rubs, coming on his own Bandolier label and operating, as the title suggests, at a slightly lower tempo than is his wont. The EP opens with 'Acid Chugger', whose very name kindly saves yours truly having to think of what to say about it! 'Fro Mo' is another midpaced affair topped with dialogue samples, 'Jazz Cat' opens with a "this is a how it should be done" vocal sample (the first of many) and has a party-hearty, Jalapeno-esque feel, before finally we come to 'Something For Your Soul', another chugging, throbbing affair with treated, spoken vocal snips and lashings of acid bass.

Review: Whenever we see Deadly Habitz back in action, we get a little bit excited to say the least, with this latest four tracker on Lost City Archives providing us with instant jitters. We begin with the nostalgia-inducing chords and groovy vocal overlays of 'Henney & Coke', an instant rave-ready rinseout, with 'Got Me Burning' then providing a more niche-inspired 4x4 splatter. We jump into more 2-step inspired switch ups next as 'Happy Daze' unleashes a smoothened sweep through choppy vocal slices and booming subs below, with the rough-house bass rolls of 'It's The Way' then giving us a smoothened outro, closing out the tracklisting with a certified slap of original garage tang.

Review: Another top quality drop here from Amen Brother, a breakbeat label that continues to impress with their high octane roster out in full force. This time around, DJ Pooch is on hand to unleash four high energy creations, opening with the 2023 mix of 'Mind, Body & Soul', a thumping, carnival ready ramp up that focuses both on gritty bass notation and eerie vocal overlays, before 'Rush On Me' takes a classic 'Dibby Dibby Sound' vocal and lets it loose over an old school hardcore arrangement. Next up, 'I Need U' unloads a more old school feel, focussing on organic drum sounds and euphoric synth lines, before the chirpy chord progressions and acidic basslines of 'Hypnotising' close us off with a bang.

Review: This latest drop from the Seilscheibenpfeiler Schallplatten Berlin looks like quite a tasty one as they invite Amor Satyr inside for a dive into the future of euphoric techno, unloading four electronic masterstrokes across this new EP. We begin with 'Transfer', a shimmering shuffle through glittering rhythms and tidy harmonies from the jump. Next, 'Quer Dancar?' unloads a techy chop of sweeping digital arpeggios with 'Rebola' giving us an additional bump of rave-ready energy. Finally, the more euphoric, higher-ended melodic grooves and choppy, almost breaks-infused drums of 'Bebe' round us off, closing down a very colourful collection indeed.

Review: Bass Agenda Recordings have struck gold with this latest mission as they welcome the explosive production skill sets of Orlando Voorn inside for three hard hitting breaksy originals, jam-packed with originality from start to finish. We begin with the slumberous rhythmic twists and packed out sub sections of 'Hunting Season', a technophone's nightmare, stuffed to the brim with bleeps and crashes. From here, 'Quick Thinking' then delivers something a little more industrial, focussing on pacey bass bumps and skippy drum sweeps, before the emotive melodies and tooting horn lines of 'The Point Of No Return' arrives for a hard hitting finale. Review: Four-piece "producer collective and DJ team" The Niceguys hail from Switzerland and have a long string of releases under their belt for labels like Bomb Strikes, Westwood Recordings and Ghetto Funk. Here they return to the former with four cuts that would work on funk-breaks and modern soul floors alike, with the Bobby Saint-vocalled 'Irie' and 'Strip It' rocking a Prince-like vibe, 'Don't Let Go' sporting a full-lunged soul vocal from Justina Lee Brown, and 'Dance' having something of a Smoove & Turrell-like feel. 'Don't Let Go' takes the gold for this writer but it's all good so feel free to disagree!

Review: Following in the footsteps of the likes of A Skillz, Beatvandals and The Allergies, Boca 45 helms the latest in Bomb Strikes' 'Funk N' Beats' compilation/mix album series, which has been running since 2013. As ever, Vol 10 features an eclectic, party-hearty mix of funk, hiphop and breaks jams, with wicky-wicky scratch sounds applied liberally. Notable inclusions this time around include two "never heard it like that before" covers of classics from the Spencer Davis Group and (sure to please footy fans) Gala, as well as Western Roots' reggae/ska-infused 'Bogus Daddy', while the bundled DJ mix version from Boca 45 showcases these sounds as they're really meant to be heard.

Review: Here's something we didn't expect: a Nu Groove label debut from original breakbeat-house hero - and for a long time Layo's right-hand man - Matthew 'Bushwacka' B. Sonically it makes perfect sense, though, because the four cuts on show seem to have been inspired by the label's glory days in the late '80s and early '90s, as well as vintage UK deep house. 'Strictly Nu' is a rolling, sweat-soaked builder smothered in dreamy chords and underpinned by rubbery, oscillating synth-bass, while 'Love Can You' joins the dots between the Burrell Brothers and glassy-eyed warehouse dancefloors at 5am. 'Right Now' sees him blend his own funk-fuelled breakbeat-house rhythms with fluttering flute solos, loved-up vocal samples and warm chords, while 'True For You' is as gorgeous as it is tough and peak-time ready.

Review: The Aphrodite Recordings crew are back it once again, this one delivering one last bomb shell to put an end to 2020 with. They welcome in A-Zone alongside Aphrodite and a host of incredible remixers for 'Calling The People', a big room breakbeat epic, jam packed with good energies and intense bassweight. We kick off with the Freestylers 'SoundClash' remix, pushing pulsating subs and super rhythmic drum shakes, before Bladerunner sends the track to the jungle jungle chopper, unleashing high energy breaksy action alongside more powerful bass expressions. Following this, the '2020 Jungle' mix gives us a much more updated and high energy version of the original, which also gets a full re-record. The release also features a dub mix for the Freestylers rework, alongside instrumental and 170bpm remixes of the jungle recreation. Wonderful stuff all around!
