Review: 1 Inch/ 1/2 Mile, the debut album from Grasscut, demonstrates nicely Ninjatune's steadfast refusal to compromise on its sonic principles as it appproaches it's 20th Anniversary. Grasscut's music is formed from stockpiled field recordings and recycled 78s and snatches of illicit conversations recorded on mobile phones edited and reworked into the tapestry of their musical compositions. The outcome is a bewitching combination of twisting psychedelia, stuttering clicks and cuts, ambient soundscapes and downbeat pop which sucks you in as soon as the woozy haze of kaleidoscopic noise explodes on 'High Down'. It's on haunting compositions such as '1946' and 'The Tin Man' where Grasscut truly shine. The latter provides the album high light with the sampled squeak of the Pompidou centre providing a spectral melody upon which layers of piano and strings gently play out before the sound of Count John McCormack's unique voice signals an onset of crashing percussion.

Review: A real gem courtesy of Ninja Tune, Grasscut combine electonics and quirky pastoral pop on "The Door In The Wall", all powered along by some sparse but booty-shaking beats. Matching the vibe of the original perfectly, Warp's Bibio adds some deliriously vibrato'd guitars reminiscent of Capitol K. PRDDCTV also does wonders on his mix, making it sound like a long-lost Syd Barrett song.

Review: Berlin-based twosome Black Loops rarely fail to hit the spot - musically at least - with their various releases for the likes of Toy Tonics, Freerange, NeoVinyl Recordings and Pets Recordings' remaining firm favourites years after they first hit stores. Perdictably, they've done it again with Circulation, their second EP for Kieran Willians' Shall Not Fade label. There's much to admire throughout, from the jazzy instrumentation, warming deep house vibes and loose-limbed breakbeats of 'Mike The Dog', and the deliciously dreamy deep house-goes-two step warmth of 'Circulation', to the cheery, up-beat deep synth-pop/deep house/nu-disco fusion of 'Dream2gether'. Also, rather delicious is closing track 'Sanse Sur L'Hardcore', a techno-tempo number that adds all manner of colourful riffs, melodies and chords to a tactile electronic groove.

Review: Stockport's one-man-cottage industry, Mr Scruff is back with a new two-tracker on Ninja Tune, again complete with his own trademark cover illustrations. This time round, lead track "Be The Music" goes for a more 4/4 electro-disco sound than you might expect of Scruff - albeit stretched out into an eight minute workout complete with funk bass and hissy hi-hats. Second track, "Nervous Energy", is more what you might expect and features his trademark shuffley beats, analogue synths and quirky sounds left, right and centre!

Review: Alex Lloyd, aka Deco Child drops another intriguing single for Ninja Tune, following up last year's well regarded Pray with S&G. Do check the title track which is a delicately beautiful mix of surging waves of synth pads, languid detuned vocals and beats skillfully low down on the mix. Another new song, "Diamond Drops" accompanies, and again Deco Child shows a canny skill for crafting heart-bursting melodies rendered with some really attention-grabbing production.

Review: Long influenced by the relationship between music and film, Ninja Tune's TCO fulfill a long-term goal with "In Motion #1" - namely soundtracking new, avant-garde films with the help of like-minded contemporaries. It works a treat on this first outing, with the Orchestra's "Necrology" riding a sense interplay between live and stuttering jazz snares and a tense piano motif, that slowly shifts chords in the manner of a Steve Reich piece. Elsewhere, Austin Peralta's classically-scored "Lapis" features violins climbing a scale toward a swooping and tear-stained conclusion, while Dorian Concept and Tom Chant create a jaw-dropping 9 minutes of ambient synth gurgles, skronking sax and hypnotic, frozen atmospheres.

Review: Steadily rising indie-electronica crossover act The Invisible made their name on Matthew Herberts Accidental imprint, but their emergence on Ninja Tune sees them tapping further into an emotive well which gets fully realised on the latest single "Wings". It's hard to deny the resemblance to Radiohead in both singer Dave Okumu's breathless delivery and the soaring guitar work, although the beats have a rough finish not found in Oxford's favourite sons. Floating Points takes the reins for a sublimely delicate remix that keeps much of the melodic content intact, while the rugged rhythms get duped for gossamer flecks of hats and cymbals and not much else.

Review: Andrew Phillips's Grasscut alias makes a splendid return to Ninja Tune on this new single, making an intimate yet frantic sound on "Pieces", which takes in everything from neo-classical pianos to Daedelus-style bricolage beats and a windswept vocal. The one to watch for though is the "M25" version of album track "Lights", which gets given a harsh raw drum rerub along with some swirling synth textures.
