Sergio Peña, aka Mr Absolutt is the DJ behind Pushing Hands Recordings, a
disco label which he leads since 2013 and where he releases is own edits
apart from being and active contributor in the London based label Midnight
Riot, owned by Yam Who?
The story takes place in the north of Spain, between the Province of Asturias
and the Vasque Country. It begins in the asturian scene of the mid-90's, well
known for its dynamism in that time. The music scene was truly brilliant, it was
revitalizing and had nothing to envy. You where surrounded by great DJs,
influential record stores and distributors and massive clubs, and the principal
actors were connected to cities such as Madrid, London, Paris, Berlin, New
York or San Francisco. No doubt, for young fellows like Sergio, attracted to
the art of DJing, the scene offered many opportunities.
Private parties and gigs in small clubs began to happen regularly, and Sergio
started to get well known in the northern scene. Moodyman's house, Atjazz'
broken beats and Basic Channel's techno worked well and ended up
becoming hits during that period. When he arrived to the Vasque Country,
around the year 2000, it happened to be the outburst of Metro Area's disco
house, and his sets started to find new sounds: boogie disco, electro-funk and
modern soul transformed his DJ sets in a sort of slow-beat- balearic-house-
disco mood. 5 years as a resident in the mythical Absolutt Club in Vitoria-
Gasteiz (Vasque Country) ended up giving him his aka.
After this intense activity, and now settled back in Gijón, in the north of Spain,
he keeps on playing in different cabins of Spain, and increasingly forming part
of the line-up at international parties. At the same time he works from his
personal studio on his new releases, edits and original tracks.
Yes, Sergio is definitely a newaver of the Spanish Disco scene.
