Influenced and inspired by sound system culture and bass music Capitol 1212 have been releasing records for 10 years now. Take elements of Hip Hop, Grime, Soca, Jungle, Dancehall, Ska and Reggae, add conscious lyrics, big bass lines and the vibes of carnival and you start to get close to describing the Capitol 1212 Sound that people have grown to know.
Capitol 1212 are Kenny and Dave also known as Professa Fresh and Fly T, two Edinburgh based Dj’s/producers, who met when playing in bands, djing on sound systems and running independent club nights in the capital. They also played together in the Drum and Bass / Punk outfit " From The Cradle To The Rave" releasing several abums. During that period and now more than 10 years on they have been busy recording as Capitol 1212 releasing music with labels such as Big toes HiFi, Irish Moss Records, Run Tingz Recordings , Sub Slayers, In Da Jungle , Happy People and their own label 1212 Records. Grabbing people’s attention with now sought after pieces of vinyl like the “Raw and Disorder EP”, songs such as the summer Hip Hop anthem “Good Feelin” and reggae dance floor thumper “Don man Sound“, their singles have been play listed on MTV and regularly played on various Radio 1 shows.
Far from being studio hermits, they have taken the sound on the road with their Dj and live sets, from playing festivals like Soundwave in Europe, Boomtown Fair , headlining the Reggae stage at Electric Picnic to performing in the South Bronx the main objective is always to make you feel like you’re at carnival . Having shared the stage and toured in Europe with artists such as Wu Tang Clan, Congo Natty, Grandmaster Flash, Prince Buster, Lee Scratch Perry, Guru and Max Romeo to name a few.
