Review: As Eli Escobar let's it be known in "The Formula" that he's 'got something for you' as the sweet chorale chimes. There's a subtle Osunlade vibe to this album, the American's first, and Rhodes be flaying on "Visions" as they vamp to a climax like a Bootsy Collins solo. It's all stripped back business of "NY So Hi" - get down to this! And for some quality, sustained loops check out "Thank You Les". "Up All Night" is a dubbed-out, cool-as, disco-tinged burner and there's a whole load to discover here in a debut album rich with the type of soul you can only get from the streets of the big apple.

Review: Finally! Motor City Drum Ensemble aka Danilow Plessow drops the Raw Cuts series into one neat little package. Ubiquitous in 2009, the series showcased the Stuttgart native's ability to combine warm pads and luscious synths to create a house sound with a decidedly classicist tip. On this EP you'll also find two new jams from the Plessow-produced Jayson Brothers and a couple of new MCDE tracks, the highlight being "Prayer".

Review: Amsterdam's Detroit Swindle duo pair up and land back on Jimpster's Freerange imprint...and you know that means swinging, dusty house grooves for all! The title track "Figure Of Speech" is a pleasant, beautifully Detroitified house swayer featuring some heavy chord action, and "Victoria's Secret" adds a further layer of beat-swing around cheery melodies for the summer haze. Flip the disc and you got "Live At The Cosmic Carnival", a disco-fuelled house anthem and another floor-filler to fill Swindle's ever-impressive catalogue.

Pick Up (12" extended Disco version) - (10:01) 125 BPM Hot
The Love Truck - (9:50) 118 BPM
Review: When it comes to crafting lengthy, disco fired dancefloor treats, DJ Koze has previous form. His "Extended Disco Version" of Lapsley's "Operator" quickly became a White Isle anthem in the summer of 2016, and we fully expect "Pick Up" to be one of the disco-house hits of 2018. Based around spine-tingling samples from a heart-felt, orchestrated 1970s disco treat - think Tom Trago's "Use Me Again", and you're close - the veteran producer slowly builds the pressure before really letting loose in the closing stages. Then "The Love Truck" is an altogether deeper, dubbier and dreamier affair, seemingly designed for leisurely warm-up sets and gentle, early morning shuffling.

M James - "Cheap Thrills" - (8:32) 120 BPM
Jamie Trench - "That Groovy Thing" - (6:12) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Roots For Bloom SHAG Edits series returns with volume 3. M.James brings us a track that will catch any music lovers ear. With the crisp percussion, delicate guitar riffs, a bassline that keeps evolving throughout and that vocal, this one ticks all the boxes. On the flip label boss Jamie Trench maintains the general feel for the record. This one focusing on a simpler yet just as effective bassline and obviously being heavily reliant on the sample being in the shag edits series. If you're looking for that record that stands out from the rest, this is the weapon you need.

In Yer Face (Bicep remix) - (7:41) 125 BPM Hot
In Yer Face (Bicep Acid dub) - (6:26) 120 BPM
Review: For those of a certain age, the opening seconds of 808 State's 1991 rave anthem "In Yer Face" - a combination of memorable melody lines and loved-up chords - are still capable of setting the pulse racing. Bicep have taken on the task of updating Graham Massey and company's anthem for a new generation, serving up two fresh interpretations. Wisely, they emphasize the spine-tingling goodness of the Manchester outfit's chord progressions on their A-side remix, getting rougher, tougher and weightier as the track progresses. Their flipside acid dub - where electro-inspired breakbeats, heavy bass and floatation tank melodies are expertly combined with ragged TB-303 lines - recalls the similarly-minded thrills of DJ Parrot and Mark Brydon's 'Sunshine Dub' of DJ Mink's early Warp slammer "Hey! Hey! Can U Relate?".

Sudoeste (feat Bim Sanga) - (4:52) 120 BPM
Review: Bristol's Addison Groove is back and getting well funky on this one! The Groove boss and 50Weapons staple gets some low slung party vibes into full effect on "F1nk" - a wicked tool that's looped to perfection. Next up, he goes deeper into the night on the hypnotic and very exotic polyrhythmicity of "Sudoeste" which features good mate Bim Sanga - it follows up their excellent Where Are The People EP on Bags Inc. last year. This one was our pick of the two and is perfect for those heads-down or 'get weird' moments on the dancefloor. Tip!

Started as a casual side project 12 years ago, Baron wanted to 'capture the more diverse and quirky sides of his musical tastes', creating underground music that he incorporates with character, personality and humour. The After The Rain EP sees him return to Bristol institution Futureboogie, for the first time since 2016's "The Carrington Spirituals". Featuring the very soulful and near spiritual title track, the lo-slung funk attack of "The French Exit " and the late night acid express of "Raise" (featuring some vocals reminiscent of the legendary Daryl Pandy) among others - each one is a a sure shot and will light up the dancefloor.

I Got Jesus (original mix) - (6:34) 117 BPM Hot
I Got Jesus (Karizma Stomp dub) - (7:48) 117 BPM
Review: Lumberjacks In Hell just keep on trucking, this time calling upon the legendary skills of Karizma in setting their latest EP alight. "Work It Out" is a fiery slice of gospel choppery, whipping up a fevered line in vocal insistence that hardly needs a rhythm section to make you move, but still has the necessary goods underneath the hood. Marcel Vogel follows a similar tact on "I Got Jesus", spacing the jam out and working a bit more groove, but certainly tapping into the same spiritually enhanced vein. Karizma then returns to make an aptly named "Stomp Dub" of the track, rounding off an absolute beast of a party record.

Au Seve - (6:33) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Broadwalk Records, the new label from Bristol house producer Julio Bashmore launches in fine style with the eminently classy Au Seve. Young Bashmore has an obvious talent for productions dripping in hooky qualities (see his still slay em jam "Battle For Middle You" as well as production credits for "Youth Soul" icon Jessie Ware) and "Au Seve" totally belongs in this canon, slipping carnival ready melodic touches and simple vocal loops over a dusted house mainframe dominated by rasping kicks and a killer rising bass line.

Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

L5 Syndrome - (7:30) 120 BPM
Mangrove - (7:38) 122 BPM
Review: Frankfurt innovator Rajko Muller returns as Isolee, working his magic this time for The Drifter's rather impressive Maeve imprint; which in recent times has brought us fantastic work by Ed Davenport, Baikal and Ripperton. "Pisco" is a slow burning groove with phased marimbas that cause a hypnotic dream state, while "L5 Syndrome" dives deeper: this smooth and introverted trip is definitely suited to the early night as it is for the afterhours and reminds us of his seminal, earlier works in the nineties for imprints like Playhouse. Finally, the title track is where Muller saves the best for last; this dubby, lo-slung groove is drenched in delayed and reverberated aesthetics. More great work by one of electronic music's true innovators.

Claus Casper & Jean Philips - "Sex Sells" - (6:08) 124 BPM
Review: Shir Khan unleashes another thrill-a-minute selection of disco-inspired workouts to get the dancefloor swinging. Bas Roos and Guy Steve kick things off with the good-time breeze of "Piece of Soul", where jazzy electric piano solos and ricocheting vocal samples ride a lolloping disco-house groove, before Freiboitar makes a stomping, French Touch style disco-house monster out of samples from one of the best-loved disco records of all time. Over on the flipside, Claus Caspar and Steve Philips whip their shirts off, reach for the poppers and lay down a stupendous slice of muscular late night disco-house. Featuring heavy, Moroder style arpeggio bass, razor-sharp disco strings and meaty house loops, "Sex Sells" is something of a sweaty party-starter.

Sameed - "Can't U" - (4:42) 123 BPM
Sameed - "Dusty Jazz" - (5:53) 120 BPM
Review: Since first dropping on wax in the autumn, this multi-artist affair has gone on to be one of Local Talk's most popular releases in years. It's easy to see why. Jamie 326 and Masalo's "Testify" is a fabulously urgent concoction - a low-sling, disco-tinged deep house bomb built around a restless rhythm track, impassioned, gospel style vocal snippets, and killer Clavinet lines. Sameed's dustier, sweatier "Can't U" offers a different slant on the same idea, offering a basement-bothering stomper that utilizes many of the same samples. Finally, the same artist delivers something looser in the shape of deep jazz-house jam "Dusty Jazz".

Houston We Have A Problem (original mix) - (7:25) 117 BPM Hot
Juxtapose - (6:37) 119 BPM
Review: After two auspicious releases on the Swedish label Aniara Recordings, production duo Genius Of Time step up to Clone's Royal Oak series, previously graced by the likes of Space Dimension Controller, Reggie Dokes and Gerd. Taking this esteemed company into account, we don't take it lightly when we say this record is as good as anything we've heard in the Royal Oak series, with "Drifting Back" a jazzy house delight with softly pumping chords making for a jam that wouldn't seem out of place in the KDJ back cat. It's the two following tracks, however, that contain the real heat. "Houston We Have A Problem" combines calming synths, vocal moans and rolling percussion to breathtaking effect, while "Juxtapose" could almost be David Kennedy in house mode such is the tough, raw drum programming, but Genius Of Time add some softly soaring strings, thus imbuing the track with a nice classicist bent.

OTP Party Breaks Vol 1
19
Lifetime Groove - (11:52) 104 BPM Hot
Lonely (original mix) - (8:24) 120 BPM
Review: On the Prowl launch their new sub label with help from legendary New York house producer, Marcos Cabral. "OTP Party Breaks Volume 1", which also features collaboration between Cabral and Shux, drops two tracks of the warm, disco flavoured, deep house that is currently making a storm over in New York City.

This first release is poised to set the tone of the whole imprint, who are expected to put out distinctly NY flavoured records from the city's favourite artists and producers. Marcos Cabral from Runaway certainly fits the bill, having also released on the likes of DFA, I'm A Cliche, Muke and Rekids, he is a true legend on the city's house scene. He collaborates with Chinatown Records partner Brennan Green on the EP's opening track, "Lifetime Groove," an epic twelve minute journey through laid back and groovy disco house. It has a classic feel right from the start with a retro bassline but with Balearic overtones and a dubby, feel good sentiment.

On the flip, Cabral lays his hand to Lil Louis' classic garage house track "Club Lonely." It is a simple rework, using straight forward loops and samples. The chord stabs keep the club vibes strong as repetitive saxophone flurries continue to build the tension. Bringing the 90s anthem up to date, Cabral gets a mainstay of Runaway's set on record at long last.

Marcos Cabral brings us a slice of classic New York house on "OTP Party Breaks." By merging the old sounds of the city with the new, he has managed to make a lasting impression in the now. This will get everyone up on their feet.

Humbled (Bonus Track) - (7:32) 120 BPM
Review: To date, Bavarian duo Coeo has released a number of quietly impressive deep house singles on a variety of labels, including Let's Play House, Seven Music and Dabit. Back In The Days sees them return to the Toy Tonics imprint they last graced back in 2014. There's a classic disco-house-meets-contemporary deep house feel to the groovy and attractive title track, while "Jugendstil" adds hazy jazz influences to the same successful formula. The bizarrely titled "+++" throws African vocal and drum samples into the mix, combining them with bold string riffs and unfussy house beats to excellent effect. Finally, bonus track "Humbled" sees the duo return to their filter-sporting best, with the results sounding like a fusion of Soundstream and Tom Trago.

Review: Not content with releasing records that pay homage to the sounds of the '90s, Local Talk bosses Mad Mats and Tooli have now signed a tune made by a production act that were last heard of in the '90s (well, 1999). "Breaking", then, is the first Kyodai record for nearly 13 years. It sounds like it was made back then, offering a smooth, piano-laden fusion of alien synths, shuffling beats and cut-up vocal stabs. It's tasty, but the real fun is to be had on the "90s Mix" and "90s Dub", both of which up the organ count in a tribute to mid-'90s New Jersey garage.

Review: While his live appearances are placing him on the radar of ever more enlightened house heads the world over, Kink is showing no signs of slacking on the production front either. The clue is in his name, and as ever there are plenty of subtly shimmying tricks in the Bulgarian mastermind's grooves to keep the stiffest of dancers shaking on the off-beat. "Valentine's Groove" is a masterclass in jazz-inflected deep house, all fuzzy chord stabs and badass bass for the funkiest shape flingers. "Strings" meanwhile reaches for a more emotive feeling, lashing on the Detroit romanticism to a wonderfully bombastic end.

Review: Having spent the last couple of years focusing on re-edits and crate digging compilations, Psychemagik return to the realm of original production. Featuring the woozy vocals of Navid Izadi, "Mink & Shoes" sounds like the kind of wonky, heavily electronic house roller that you'd expect to find on Crosstown Rebels or Hot Creations, albeit with a little Freaks style bumpin' eccentricity mixed in. It's accompanied by a decidedly trippy, undulating late night dub from Psychemagik themselves, while Mexican producer Yoan Lokier gets busy on the flip. Her version is feels more trippy, with intoxicated, new wave influenced synths taking pride of place amongst a glam-style triple-beat drum pattern. It brings out the wonkiness of Izadi's vocal, which is certainly no bad thing.

Review: A belated but welcome return for Brooklyn's Razor 'N' Tape crew. This time round, though, they're not cutting-up classic boogie tunes in a Tiger & Woods-ish disco-house style. Instead, they offer up three woozy, all-enveloping deep house cuts from The Groovers. "Here's To You Mr Robinson" laces a classic jazz vocal over a smooth-as-silk deep house groove, while "Make Me Feel" turns a delicious jazz-funk jam into a deep, soulful treat - all twinkling Rhodes, edible horns and sweeping strings. "Where You Belong", on the other hand, goes further into slow dance territory, lacing fluid funk guitars, sensual pianos and a delightful vocal over a deep rare funk groove.

Review: Dani Plessow dons the Motor City Drum Ensemble name with Say A Prayer signaling a return to the production game following his much publicized creative burnout. It's clear that Plessow's period of convalescence has worked wonders, with the four tracks here every bit as deep and dusty as the much vaunted Raw Cuts series upon which the MCDE project was launched skywards. Proceedings open with the two part suite of the title track, laying down fuzzy chords and intermittent vocal swoons over a gritty 909 backbone on the opening track; part 2 meanwhile will have you digging out those Raw Cuts 12"s in order to do a MCDE master mix, such is its immediate warmth and neck snapping drums. Meanwhile, Plessow uses "The Stranger" as a chance to traverse bleepier, rattling techno terrain with superb results, whilst "SP11" is rasping high octane house at its finest.

Review: There is little doubt that Detroit Swindle have positively owned modern high-end house music since ripping onto the scene back in 2012, kicking Dirt Crew, Murmur, Tsuba and more into touch with their red-blooded productions that pack pounding drums, punchy bass and swooning chords into crafty grooves of the most commanding kind. They're at it once again for Freerange after last year's Creep, kicking off with the joyous explosion of the title track with its righteous diva vocals, tasty Rhodes lines and hooky beat. "Under The Spell" keeps the same garage shuffle but homes in more on the bittersweet chord tones as a source of their soul, but there's still room for a marginally more restrained roller in the shape of "Woman". Crue twists things up with a murky remix of "Unfinished Business" that ditches the melodics in favour of pure rhythmic thrust.

For The Very First Time - (6:45) 119 BPM Hot
Apricots - (4:34) 119 BPM
Trummor - (10:22) 119 BPM
Review: Having come to the fore via some rather divisive edits of Dorian Concept, Steve Reich and Mariah Carey, the Stockholm based producer HNNY serves notice of his capacity for original productions with this rather fine release on the Local Talk label. This fifteenth release for Mad Mats' resolutely deep house operation maintains the standards set by previous emissions, and it's easy to see why opening track "For The Very First Time" has already been embraced by HNNY's former overseers Studio Barnhus. That all too authentic take on the early 90s NYC house sound is a good primer for what to expect from hereon in, with the similar equation of pitched vocal snatches craftily twisted around infectious yet simplistic melodic motifs and thick bass lines also characterising "Apricots". Do check the percussive 10 minute long behemoth that is "Trummor" for an example of what else HNNY can do - an expert DJ tool in the mould of how they used to be done, back in those days.

Review: Here Z Records boss Joey Negro presents his own take on the everlasting 90s revival. Just like on all his other projects he's dug deeper to present gems the label say may have until now slipped under the garage doors (i.e. haven't yet been granted digital immortality). Highlights of these 26 rarities include Robert Owens' smooth n' sultry synth jam "Gotta Work", the bitchy disco of "Unique" by Danube Dance & Kim Cooper and the raw attitude of Mike Delgado's "The Murder Track". With this fine release, who needs a time machine?

Jungelknugen (Prins Thomas remix) - (8:56) 122 BPM
Review: Cheekily, Todd Terje has decided to put out these remixes of forthcoming album track "Jungelknugen" before we've had a chance to hear the original version. While it's hard to know how revolutionary these remixes are - or otherwise - it's fair to say that both Four Tet and Prins Thomas have brought their A-game. Keiran Hebden steps up first, layering up looped, kosmiche style synthesizer refrains, wide-eyed piano motifs, low-slung analogue bass, and the kind of jazzy, off-kilter drum machine beats that simultaneously feel loose and sturdy. While undoubtedly impressive, it lacks the hustle and bustle of Prins Thomas's interpretation, which is drive forwards by heavy, bleep techno style sub bass and the producer's own groovy disco drums.

Review: "Mind Biscuit": Something tasty for your brain to chew on while your feet mulch up the dancefloor. Auckland crew Monkey Boots lay down two jack-slapping originals that dig deep into the true deep house psyche. "Impossible Need" comes with smoky vocal and smouldering bass vibes on the groove while "Yearning For You" slaps with a lighter sensation, all wafty minor key organs and soul-stirring vocals. Remix-wise Reed & Radley subvert "Yearning For You" with a little more space and reverbed magic while The Phantom Flan Flinger gets all reflective and shimmering on the Balearic bomb "Lullaby For Spiderman". Beautiful.

New Paradise - (6:50) 119 BPM
Review: Last year, Melbourne's Harvey Sutherland signaled his arrival in emphatic fashion with the acclaimed Brothers EP for Voyage Recordings - a sumptuous, soul-flecked EP of boogie-influenced deep house. Here, he continues to impress with a superb tracks for Dani Plessow's MCDE imprint. "Bermuda" is deliciously warm and summery, with jaunty boogie synths and cascading chords riding a smooth, shuffling deep house groove. "New Paradise" works the same formula hard, with dreamy, held-note chords and bubbly synthesizer melodies wrapping themselves around loose, analogue-sounding percussion and a rich bassline. If there were any doubts about his talents moving forward, this should dispel them. Clearly, Sutherland is here to stay.

Review: Aroop Roy is a producer, singer and multi-instrumentalist originally from the UK and now residing in Tokyo. Be prepared for one well funky and soul infused journey on "Talkin Bout Life" which is perfect to bring in the summer of 2017. Funky elements, a serious horns section and strong vocals hold up this brilliant track. It's a more straight ahead deep house affair on the rather evocative "We Together" and actually its the kind of track you could imagine Derrick May or Dixon playing out; there are definitely elements of 'hi-tech soul' in it. The Brisa remix of Talkin Bout Life" on the flip is a worthy addition also.

Review: 10 years on from its initial release, Groove Armada's contribution to the Anotherlatenight series gets a new lease of life. For those searching for deep, downtempo and vaguely Balearic fare, it's well worth a look. While Groove Armada's mix is enjoyable enough, it's the unmixed tracks that are most worthy of attention. Amongst the familiar classics (Kleer's boogie classic "Tonight", Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It" and Metro Area's "Muira"), you'll find hot curiosities from the likes of Shuggie Otis (the decidedly acid-fried "Strawberry Letter 23"), Loose Ends ("Feel The Vibe"), Good Together (forgotten super-deep house jam "Work It Out") and Don Ray (the heady disco grooves of "Standing In The Rain").

Review: Ludovic Llorca is clearly a man on a mission. Having largely disappeared from view for a couple of years, this is amazingly his third Art of Tones release in as many weeks. It's also arguably the strongest of the trio. "Take Me Higher" is a soulful, energetic and effortlessly groovy fusion on gospel, classic US deep house and contemporary British bass bottom-end. It's one of those tunes that's nigh on impossible to dislike. "Damped", a foray into fluid, late night deepness, is almost as good. The good news is that there are tons of Dubs and remixes to get stuck into, too, with Lauer's deliciously old skool, but lovingly fluid "Bert Remix" being the best of the bunch.

Review: Given the mystery surrounding this release - unnamed "well known London DJ/ producer" joins forces with (also uncredited) "star Bristol musician and vocalist" - it would be easy to let the music pass you by. Yet "It's You" is excellent - arguably one of the strongest Futureboogie releases to date. It eschews the label's usual styles in favour of a low-slung combination of sparse, Hot Creations-ish house rhythms, soul-aching vocals and Prince-ish 80s funk squelch. It's a great combination. Crazy P man Ron Basejam offers a deep and sunny house interpretation, whilst Bristolian housers Eats Everything and Christophe deliver a fluid fusion of disco percussion and bubblin', retro-futurist acid house.

Review: During the 1990s, Chez Damier and Ron Trent's Prescription Records did more than any other label to define the sound of Chicago deep house. The label's reputation is such that it's still talked about in hushed tones, with lesser-known back catalogue nuggets remaining in-demand items with DJs and record collectors. This superb, double-disc compilation from Rush Hour tells the story of the label, gathering together both much-played underground anthems (Trent and Damier's "Morning Factory" and "The Choice", the proto-boompty-via-St Germain jazz-house of Angora's "Enchantment", and so on) and sought-after selections. Thrillingly, the collection also boasts a trio of previously unreleased Ron Trent cuts, all of which are superb.

Review: Having given keen listeners a healthy preview in his Fabriclive mix last year, the artist formerly known as Stopmakingme delivers his full-length album for Erol Alkan's Phantasy Sound. It's a limber brew that channels a strong dose of analogue trickery through smart and snappy beat constructions, all bubbling, aquatic synths and troubled delays propelled by unfussy drum patterns so that the melodies can do the talking. Primarily this is a dancefloor album, moving from peppy breakbeat driven numbers to gently bumping house, but always the playful, ineffably warm synth work sets the tone, from "Naive Response"s robotic charm to "Drone Logic"s soaring grind. It's an album brimming in confidence and nailed with precision, and it's packed full of incredibly usable floor rockers to boot.

Review: Cymbal-heavy UK garage beats? Check! Sub-bothering bassline? Check! Dreamy, oddly pitched vocal sample? Check! Sweaty, wide-eyed late night vibe? Check! Result: "23" has all the right ingredients to impress bass music heads - and those into Hypercolour-ish deep house/bass music blends. It also comes backed with a couple of notable remixes, with bass veteran Zinc providing his own typically big VIP version. In truth, it's not that much different from the original, though Zinc's build-up extension, additional wobbly noises and bass EQ'ing work bring the most out of the near-anthemic original. Kry Wolf make the most of the original's dreamy samples and beef up the bottom-end wobble on their in-your-face remix.

Review: Sccucci Manucci once again proves its dancefloor chops with its fifth release, the Cinquemila Lire EP, which sees the London based imprint curl its moustache in the direction of deep house. Manchester based duo Toyboy & Robin open proceedings with "No More Sunshine", an insouciant mix of soulful vocals, shuffling garage percussion and burning deep house organ stabs. It's a heady, intoxicating mix, and it's one that's matched on the A-Side by Sahin Meyer's effort; the husband and wife duo turn in the gorgeous "Spread Love", a cut that wrings every last drop of emotion out of a classic, drummy arrangement. Flip over for "Saif" by Illyus, a twinkling late night excursion into melodic, star gazing house, and "Feel Love" by Firas, one half of the Waze & Odyssey, who rounds off another killer Sccucci 12-inch with raw-thentic smacky beats and an addictive loopy vocal and bassline.

Review: Laurent Garnier hooks up with Berlin producer Chambray for his first production in a few years. The fact that it has landed on Rekids is no surprise, as Garnier has been a longtime supporter of the label. In its original form, "Feelin' Good" sees the duo lay down a dramatic piano melody that surges and swells its way over a tracky rhythm and dramatic, building filters. It's both uplifting and functional. Radio Slave delivers two remixes: the first is a tough workout designed exclusively for maximum dance floor impact, while on the second 'Revenge' remix, the Rekids boss turns "Feelin' Good" into a thing of Balearic beauty thanks to the addition of rolling break beats.

Review: Well-traveled Spaniard Maceo Plex is a snug fit with Crosstown Rebels. The trio of tracks on this quietly impressive EP sound unequivocally current, yet none neatly fit into prescribed genre pigeonholes. "Can't Leave You", for example, sounds like some lost Seth Troxler/Benoit & Sergio hoedown (especially the Tale Of Us remix), but with the addition of extra disco drums, gut-busting sub-bass and classic analogue house touches. It has "Ibiza" written all over it. "Stop Your Hate" treads similar ground, but also includes a heavy dose of mutant electrofunk. It's kinda deep, but also kinda funky. Either way, it's a lot of fun.

Review: Recloose on Delusions of Grandeur? Yes please! "Don't Get Me Wrong" is classic Matt Cicioine, packed full of his usual musicality and dense, melodic production. It sounds like an unlikely fusion of distant, long-forgotten disco and spine-tingling deep house, with more atmospheric vocal samples and live instruments than you can shake a smelly stick at. It's heady and intoxicating, coming on like a classic house production made somewhere between Detroit and New York. The driving "Shimmy" continues the murky, retro-futurist trend and is just as engaging. As if that wasn't enough, there's also a lovingly fluid, decidedly Balearic rework of the title track from Melbournite Tornado Wallace that's quite possibly the best thing he's done to date. Splendid!

Review: It's been some six years since Hun Choi made his debut on William Burnett's WT Records imprint. In that time, he's proved incredibly hard to pin down. This debut album for Rush Hour seems designed to continue that trend, offering a series of warm, melodious and curiously Balearic cuts that defy easy categorization. Sure, there are dancefloor-focused moments - see the cacophonous, Detroit-influenced hustle of "Error of the Average", the deep acid madness of "Silent Sensations" and the classic deep house bounce of "Desire" - but also a range of downtempo and ambient jams that arguably impress more. Of these, it's "The World" - a humid exercise in tropical drums, twittering flutes and looped vocal samples - and the sublime, string-laden "Bruises" that really stand out.

The Rainbow Song (S3A Broken STL remix) - (5:42) 119 BPM
Review: Following a surprise outing on House of Disco, Ludovic Llorca returns to Local Talk for the first time since 2013's much played The Same Thing EP. In its' original form, The Rainbow Song is a near perfect example of Llorca's particular brand of deep house - all stretched-out chords, a bustling bassline, tough but shuffling beats, cute cowbells and bluesy vocal samples. It sounds like an underground summer anthem in waiting. There's more of a funk-flecked urgency about the excellent S3A Broken STL Remix, which introduces further vocal samples and, arguably, an even more addictive groove. Certainly, it feels a little wilder than the original, whilst retaining Llorca's unique deep house perspective.

Review: There's plenty of breezy summer warmth on this split four-tracker from the ever-reliable Melbourne Deepcast camp. Andy Hart joins forces with Max Graef on opener "Super Strain", the aural equivalent of a stroll down the banks of the Yarra River at dusk, all squinting horns, shuffling grooves and woozy party atmos. Graef's "Sensation" continues on a similar theme, thickening the percussion and adding some tipsy, bluesy chords for added humid, late night effect. M5K opts to drop the tempo and prioritize vintage, new age synths on the intoxicating "Moon Vexed", while The Tortoise brilliantly blends deep house, nu-disco and soft-focus soul on "The Real Thing".

Review: After an extended summer break, Apersonal Music returns to action via a first EP in five years from Cisco Cisco. It opens with the comforting shuffle of "Jazzy Days", where intricate electric piano lines, woozy chords and soulful vocal samples ride a near horizontal, slow-house groove. It's accompanied by a trademark Ron Basejam remix, which retains the rich, jazzy deep house feel of the original, whilst adding a little more disco swagger. Further disco and boogie influences can be heard on "Jazzy Nights", which is a flickering, synth-heavy deep house treat. Andre Vegas' smooth, sweet and sultry interpretation of that track rounds off a fine E.P.

Reprise De Fonk - (5:45) 119 BPM
Review: "Where The One Is", the lead cut from Art of Tones' latest Local Talk release, sounds like a peak-time anthem in the making. Seemingly crafted using a mixture of cut-up Philadelphia soul samples, jammed-out new disco instrumentation and jazzy, ambidextrous house beats, it feels a little like a tooled-up, slightly more low-slung version of Blackjoy classic "Moustache". You'll find more low-slung, disco-fired, Clavinet-sporting heaviness where "Double Wheelin" provides further guaranteed peak-time pressure. As for "Reprise Du Fonk", it appears to be a quick-fire dub of "Where The One Is" featuring even more elastic bass guitar, jazz-wise guitar licks and life-affirming electro piano solos.

Review: Given the recent upsurge in interest in the back catalogue of seminal Chicago label Dance Mania - particularly the ghetto booty side of their output - it seems fitting that Strut have finally given the label the retrospective treatment it so richly deserves. The whole story is here, from the early jack tracks of Hercules, The Housemaster Boyz and Victor Romero, to the stomping rhythms of DJ Funk, Dj Deeon and Robert Armani (whose ghetto-meets-acid jam "Ambulance" is a riotous highlight). Along the way, there are classics aplenty, alongside lesser-known gems from the vaults (see Parris Mitchell Project's ace "Ghetto Shout Out (feat Wax Master)" and Paul Johnson's thrilling "Feel My MF Bass"). Whether you're a Chicago house connoisseur or not, this should be essential listening.

Review: SBM is a new collaboration between Philpot co-founder Micahel Baumann (AKA Soulphiction) and the mysterious Blunted Monkz (an artist who has made just a handful of appearances on EPs and compilations since debuting in 2011). Happily, the quality threshold remains high throughout. Opener "Gotta Have It" sets the tone, serving up a rolling deep house cut built around low-slung dub disco bass, echoing vocal samples and layered percussion. "Tripolis Jam" is an even sweatier and more intensely percussive affair, with restless cowbells and heavier drum hits working in unison with a fuzzy, punk-funk bassline. Finally, they unveil the EP's undisputed banger, "Criticize", a woozy but energy-packed, jazzy deep house jam featuring vocal snippets from the Alexander O'Neal classic of the same name.

Review: Oliver Dollar, a Berlin-based artist who first appeared on Rekids as a remixer in 2012, has returned to Radio Slave's label with his 'Strings for Life' EP. The EP's title track begins with rich and stirring strings that add soul to the track. The song is warm, euphoric, and built on a rocksteady disco groove, making it both familiar and classic. 'School Daze' is a loopy track with funky bass, jazzy chords, and timeless house drums topped off with a retro vocal sample. The EP's final track, 'Sophisticated Funk,' features an epic, emotive beatdown, and Dollar doubles down on the disco. Oliver Dollar brings a very different sound to Rekids with this EP, which is full of joyous and lush tunes.

Review: The Sccucci Manucci label has done a fine job of handpicking artists on the rise for their releases to date, collaring the likes of Casino Times, Francis Inferno Orchestra and Toomydisco as well as the odd established name like Jacques Renault. The label's fourth release Forza Quattro is still grounded in the disco/house sensibility that has served them so well, though the presence of Waze & Oddysey demonstrates the Sccucci A & R team are willing to deviate. The elusive US pair are in the midst of a hot patch right now with releases already burning on Body Work and Southern Fried and plenty more due over the coming months, so their presence here is a real coup. "I Can't Hear You" sounds vaguely like a extra bouncy cover of the classic "RIP Groove" and definitely ranks alongside their output to date. The EP also has tempo traversing contributions from Fil Lavin, Sellouts and Deadly Sins, with the latter's slow and chuggy "Don't You Know" a particular highlight.

Review: Thanks to three previous 12" and digital samplers, most of you will have a fair idea what to expect from this debut full-length from Scottish house-disco fusionists Graeme Clark and Craig Smith. It's still very much worth listening to the album in its entirety, though. Clearly designed as a proper album to be listened to in sequence, it's beautifully programmed and packs a whole skipload of great ideas (not to mention brilliant samples) into a thoroughly entertaining 90-miniute journey. While it only occasionally strays from house - check the downtempo delight "Settle" - there's plenty of variety within that, touching on classic NYC deepness, loopy disco/house heaviness, sensual slo-mo grooves and string-laden tech-house builders.

Take a listen to I "Just Can't (Get Over It)" and you'll believe there is such a thing. On the flip, the smooth and soulful groove continues on "Dirty Stories" which has an undeniably French touch about it, with good use wonky synths, emotive strings and SP1200 style vocal cut ups. Deepness in the vein of Pepe Braddock or Chateau Flight.

Review: This six-tracker from Lis Sarroca opens with the classic Peech Boys "come with me, tonight's the night" vocal sample that Altern-8 used on 'Activ-8', making clear from the outset the strong appreciation of dance music history that's evidenced throughout the Barcelonian producer's canon. Tracks here range from the discofied 'Hi Montana' to the fierce, driving acid of 'La Neta', via the dreamy small-hours deepness of 'AX' and the more accessible, peaktime vibes of 'Round & Round', but whatever house style Ms Sarroca turns her hand to, the production's always polished and Da Funk is always in full effect.

Review: Given that each of their previous releases has been on-point, it's little surprise to find that Fouk's latest EP is packed full of warm, sample-heavy, disco-flecked deep house treats. We'd argue that the headline attraction is bouncy opener "Organ Freeman", a tasty workout that layers fresh organ solos over a house groove built around rubbery bass and obscure disco-funk samples, though the wilder and more driving "Wrong Way" pushes it close. Elsewhere, "Butterfunk" is a lolloping trip into mid-tempo deep house/disco/jazz-funk fusion, while closer "Winter" is a loved-up chunk of deep space instrumental hip-hop with added boogie synths.

Review: The excellent Autonomous Africa series returns for a second release sporting cuts from label founder JD Twitch and the like minded Auntie Flo and Midland. Launched last year, the series intends to highlight the problems that outside interference from other countries has on African countries and their people with all the proceeds from each EP donated to a different charity in Africa. The inaugural EP raised funds for Medecins Sans Frontieres operations in Africa, while this year's EP will raise funds for the Mtandika Mission in Tanzania. Midland offers some of his best work to date with the thumping, scratchy 4/4 of original production "Checkbob" which is matched by JD Twitch's "Olaiya" which adds a devilish sub bassline to the jittery JBs style funk of the uncredited source. Elsewhere, Auntie Flo is in more contemplative mood with "Water Of Life" whilst Twitch's second edit "Juju" is a percussive delight.

Review: Having released his first Soundstream 12" some six years earlier, Frank Timm decided to dust down his now famous moniker for a surprise follow-up in 2005. As we now know, it was a wise choice. Freakin', featuring four slabs of colossal cut-up disco-house heaviness, was the 12" that firmly established his now infamous loopy, floor-friendly sound. All these years on, it still sounds fantastic. "Freakin" is amongst Timm's most instantly accessible offerings, while the string-laden "3rd Movement" remains a benchmark in sample manipulation (and, of course, a dancefloor banger to boot). The deeper, Rhodes-heavy "Soul Train" is also worth a listen.

Review: There's something pleasingly old-fashioned about Happy Again, an album of alternative versions and remixes of tracks from Eli Escobar's acclaimed Happiness full-length. Thanks to the presence of DJ-friendly dubs, rhythm tracks and acappellas, it feels like Classic looked to the pioneering remix albums of the 1980s for inspiration. What really makes it stand out, though, is the quality of the material. Kon's rework of "Happiness (Part 2)" offers the perfect balance between subtle house and voodoo disco, while Soulphiction and Soul Clap steal the show with contrasting deep house takes on "Can't Stop Dancing" and "4 Luv". We're particularly impressed, too, with the freestyle-tinged revision of "Chaka Khan" by The Carry Nation, while Escobar's own dub of "Happiness (Part 2)" is a loose, warm and groovy treat.

Review: Everyone loves a good story behind a record and few come with a more interesting narrative than this debut (and perhaps only) Talamanca System 12". The story goes that Gerd Janson and Phil Lauer were enjoying the Ibizan hospitality of International Feel boss Mark Barrot last summer, to the extent they were both gifted his unused Studio Electronics 'Boomstar 303' synth. Eager to repay such a lavish favour, Janson offered to remix a track Barrot was working on, an offer which eventually resulted in this 12". Four versions of "Balanzat" feature here, with an original, acid reflux, Tuff City Kids refix and ambient reprise to choose from. If this is the only Talamanca System record we will see it's a shame as it's a mighty fine addition to the International Feel discography.

Weekend Express - "Deeper" (original mix) - (6:44) 115 BPM
Review: Victoria's finest come together to launch the Melbourne Deepcast imprint, proving that there's much more to the city than great coffee. Up first is Lewie Day - perhaps better known to the record buying public as Tornado Wallace - who drops the immensely pleasing soulful mid tempo bump of "Some Kind Of Man", a sample-heavy house jam that has been receiving a lot of love on the Juno office turntable. This is followed by "Devoted", an effort from MD head honcho Andy Hart that shimmers with Motor City soul - watch out for those keys! Up next there's some eagerly anticipated new tackle from Fantastic Man, with the deep groove/low slung riffage of "From Start To Finish" sounding like a snug fit for the 6th Borough Project back cat, while Weekend Express's "Deeper" bristles with vintage Chicago vibes. An auspicious debut.

Demain A Jamais - (4:40) 110 BPM
Review: Paris-based deep house veteran Phil Weeks is usually a reliable source of bittersweet, floor-friendly fodder. This new three-tracker for his own Robsoul label is another winner. "Live at Palladium", with its jazzy keys, warm groove and soulful vocal samples (what appears to be Marvin Gaye, no less), is impeccable; a real winter warmer. The edit-not-edit deep disco house of "You Want My Love" - all filtered vocals, shuffling grooves, twittering flutes and subtle pianos - is, if anything, even better. The closing track, "Demain A Jamais", is similarly inspirational, sounding as it does like a cross between Pepe Bradock's "Deep Burnt" and chunky, bumpin' Chicagoan deep house.

Review: Nottingham based Ron Basejam is the anagrammed alter-ego of Crazy P co-founder James Baron who creates music with feelings on labels such as Futureboogie and Wolf Music and now for Freerange sister label Delusions Of Grandeur. On the fittingly titled The Sound Of A Feeling EP he serves up the charmingly titled "Shit Wizard" a soulful, nu-disco boogie-down jam. "We Walk To War" in its original form is the kind of lo-slung/slo-mo disco that really floats our boat, but the remix up next by Tee Mango really injects it with some Stevie Wonder style soul-funk that'll help get your shine on. The title track is the deepest and most emotive offering here, with its sublime and hypnotic qualities being pushed along by a tight groove.

Review: With an intrinsic link to the Futureboogie crew in the live arena, long-serving UK house crew Crazy P bring their broad sound to the label with gusto, maximising on the skills the component member possess. Most apparent of these is Danielle Moore with her arresting croon shining through the most on "Clouds", and also popping up in snippet form on "Burning". There is a spread of different moods at work across the tracks from seedy electro tones on the first track to the sizzling disco flavour of "Virtuality", leaving plenty of room for Outboxx to lay down a blissful slice of keys-rich deep house in their inimitable style.

Review: Defected's ongoing House Masters series should be essential listening for anyone keen to discover more about the recording careers of some of the scene's most iconic producers. Certainly, this latest installment, chronicling NYC legend Todd Terry's finest moments, contains far more hits than misses. At 35 tracks deep, it's a bit of a beast, but features not only all of his best-known productions ("Weekend", "Can You Party", "I'll House You", "Bango (To The Batmobile)", his remix of Everything But The Girl's "Missing"), but also a swathe of lesser-known remixes (A slammin' version of Bizarre Inc's "I'm Gonna Get You"), Dubs (a brilliantly stripped-back version of Hardrive's "Voices Inside My House") and original productions (the hip-house era madness of Black Riot's "Warlock").

This Is The Place - (5:58) 124 BPM
Review: Originally debuting on Well Rounded Records' Housing Project sub-label in 2012, Leon Vynehall has since become one of the UK's most in-demand of the new wave of young house producers. He's released subsequent records for George Fitzgerald's ManMakeMusic and Will Saul's Aus, and most recently an album on Martyn's 3024. Vynehall is now in cruise control and he lays back on Clone's Royal Oak with what will prove to be a favourite with DJs this summer. "Butterflies" is this record's piano-driven house jam, but really it's all about "This Is The Place", a loved up peach of a production with the strength to appease the underground and crossover into the mainstream.

Me & You (original) - (6:56) 107 BPM
Review: The underground disco network operated by Under The Shade reaches out to Australia to showcase the sounds of Francis Disco Inferno. Fans of the Wolf Music and Dikso imprints might be familiar with the work of the young Melbourne based producer, and the rest of you will probably make a mental note to keep your ears peeled for future FDI missives on the potential shown here. There's an inherent warmth to the rich piano melodies that filter through "Meet me In Salt Lake City" but the sloppy drum hits give the track an unpolished idiosyncratic feel that's all too absent from contemporary disco tinged house. Soul Clap drag the track back towards proto house territory with a stripped to the bone warehouse rhythmic thrust running throughout, dark pulses of bass augmented by reverberant key stabs and subaqueous melodies. In contrast, the remix from Eddie C embellishes all the elements, dipping the track in a swathe of delightfully bubbling delay.

I Don't Think That's Music - (4:43) 116 BPM
Review: Having not bothered with the Art of Tones alias much over the last few years, Ludowic Llorca has now dropped two singles in the space of two weeks. Following his Murk-influenced "Your Love" for Defected offshoot DFTD, here he delivers some deeper fare for Local Talk. With its righteous vocal, slack snares, rubbery live bass and tumbling Rhodes chords, "The Same Thing" sounds like classic Detroit deep house given the Llorca twist - Piranhahead in Paris, perhaps. It's excellent, as is the accompanying Dub, which beefs up the beats and loops up choice sections of the original vocal. The bonus cuts are pretty tasty, too, with the classic proto house-meets-baggy US garage vibe of "I Don't Think That's Music" catching the ear.

The Magic Room (Doorly Re Chunk mix) - (8:11) 120 BPM
Review: It would be fair to refer to Dino Lenny as a "veteran": the Italian producer has been churning out dancefloor hits since the dawn of the '90s. This release sees him join forces with Cajual and Hot Creations regular Doorly for a loving tribute to the joys of club culture. The action centres on a meandering, largely spoken vocal describing a mesmerizing late night dancing experience in "The Magic Room". On the lead version - a tasty re-edit by Lenny and Seth Troxler - this is accompanied by "Lazy" style pianos, and a chunky, disco-tinged house groove. The low-slung guitars and bass are pushed to the fore on Doorly's energy-packed remix, while Luke Solomon doffs a cap to the jazz-flecked boompty sounds of Chicago on his busy rework.

Review: Dutchman Bas Roos is the latest producer to contribute to Exploited's Shir Khan-curated Black Jukebox series. He kicks off a fine EP via "Downtown", a lumpy, bumpy chunk of dusty, piano-laden peak-time goodness driven forwards by bustling drums and a killer disco style bassline. You'll find more blissful piano solos on the similarly hustling, low-slung "One Way", which also makes great use of impassioned disco-soul vocal snippets and restless handclap samples. Elsewhere, "Take Life Easy" is an impeccable hybrid of jazzy disco samples and swinging deep house percussion, while "Ugly House" sounds like a long lost collaboration between Kevin Saunderson's Inner City Project, Chez Damier and Sheffield-based dusty house specialist Thatmanmonkz.

Review: Session Victim's 2012 debut full-length The Haunted House of House was arguably one of the best deep house albums of the year, and this EP provides the equally fine follow up. Opener "Yes I Know" features their trademark loose, swinging drums, warm chords and classic deep house sheen, alongside a healthy amount of what sounds like organic instrumentation. With the addition of a delicious disco vocal sample, it makes for wonderful listening. Max Graef remixes, turning in a version that sounds like a deeper take on 6th Borough Project. "Glow In The Dark", meanwhile, is wholeheartedly Balearic - a blindingly sunny slice of semi-live disco-house bagginess that should get maximum rotations in warmer climes this summer.

Review: The recording career of Salzburg's Bernard Weiss, AKA Demuja, has followed the well-trodden path of multiple compilation appearances followed by well-received EPs for a couple of little-known labels. There's a feeling that he just needs a breakthrough, and this single on Jimpster's Freerannge label could provide it. Certainly, the four included tracks are amongst his strongest to date. Choose between the sumptuous, shuffling deep house dreaminess of "Move", the warehouse-friendly thrills of "B.o.o.m", the hard-wired Italo-disco revivalism of "Into My Brain" - all raging arpeggio lines and dreamy pads - and the fireside-warm deep house/disco fusion of "Turn Me On". The latter's fusion of live instrumentation, evocative vocal samples and rolling house drums is particularly inspiring.

Review: It can be hard to predict what Fort Romeau will do next. While he's always excelled at making evocative, melancholic blends of vintage deep house, instrumental synth-pop and glistening electronica, he's prone to frequent stylistic shifts, as his eccentric 2015 outings on Cin Cin and Running Back neatly demonstrated. For this EP on Live At Robert Johnson, he's back to his deep and emotion-rich best, laying down a trio of tracks that emphasise mood, melody and simple beauty over the demands of the dancefloor. "Facing The Sea" is the most obvious club-friendly of the three - think chugging, hissing rhythms, winding melodies and Behaviour-era Pet Shop Boys chords - though it's the intensely beautiful "Seventyfour" that really stands out.

Check first Pete Herbert and Tristan Dan Cunha's retro-futurist, proto-house-meets-Balearic nu-disco rework of The Glimmers' 'U Rocked My World', before moving on to In Flagranti's all-action, peak-time ready take on Golden Bug's 'LookLookLook'. The Ep continues via a now 22 year-old rework of Leroy Hanghofer's 'Pin' by Jacques Lu Cont and John Burillo - a brilliantly low-slung house workout featuring punk-funk bass and colourful boogie synth flourishes - before concluding with a killer dub disco take on the KDMS' 'Never Stop Believing' courtesy of NYC disco original Nicky Siano.

This time they're doing their thing for Thomas Von Party's Multi Culti out of Montreal and it's not bad at all! "Waiting For A Surprise" is cheeky indie house with some catchy vocals and a fine groove guaranteed to pack a dancefloor. "The Metal Bender" is on a more cruisy and atmospheric vibe, sounding like something on Kompakt and perfect for the after-hours. On the flip is "Hope" which merges said indie sensibilities of before with a minimal house vibe which is on the more sinister and druggy tip, showcasing their knack for a variety of grooves in their arsenal.

Review: Newcastle-based producer Patrick Topping made his debut on Hot Creations last September, impressing with his skewed take on bass-heavy, tech-tinged deep house. Here he returns to Jamie Jones and company's label for a third time. There's much to admire, from the stripped-back pumping wonkiness of "Schwicked" (think rising and falling bass, sturdy US garage drums and curious noises), to the watery electronic fills, disjointed vocal samples, warm bass and shuffling percussion of "Boxed Off". Best of all, though, is "Forget", which laces attractive vocal samples and disco cowbells over another impressively bass-heavy big room house groove.

The Melbourne resident has impressed with previous pitched down mutant discoid cuts for the Sleazy Beats and Murmur imprints, but the Paddlin' EP sees Tornado Wallace go deep. The title track has a main groove that throbs away underneath fizzling Detroit pads whilst funk grunts fight for your attention with soaring synth washes. "Swimmin" reworks proceedings, switching down the tempo slightly but bringing the groove topside for a splendid sun kissed chugger. Firecracker/Prime Numbers don Linkwood jumps on board to deliver a soaring seven minute remix that brings to mind the Pepe Bradock classic "Deep Burnt".

Review: In which UK scene stalwart Pete Herbert remixes five tracks by other people and one of his own, to predictably fine effect. The EP opens with the understated synth-y throb of 'Pourquoi', before 'Back To Bahia' takes us down a slightly housier path. 'Orange Chika' then takes a left turn into classic Balearic territory - complete, from the two minute mark, with uplifting piano riff - before the remaining three tracks play us out on a more straight-up disco tip. It's all superbly executed - as you'd expect from Herbert - but leading the charge for me is the big, bad funker that is 'Revnorev'.

Review: This great value five-tracker sees former Swedish Brandy producer Opolopo launch a new moniker, Actual Proof. Musically, it offers a slightly more varied diet than his previous work, variously touching on deep house futurism (the rather quite spellbinding "Huff & Puff"), bubbling, sub-aquatic deepness (two excellent mixes of future late night staple "Hubble") and gritty, stripped-back disco/deep house fusion (two dubby versions of lead cut "The Grit"). As usual, it's all immaculately produced, offering the sort of far-sighted but groove-centred deepness that always impresses dancefloors. This boy will go places.

DJ-Kicks (continuous DJ mix By Moodymann) - (1:19:46) 122 BPM
Review: It would be fair to say that Studio K7 has pulled off something of a coup in getting Kenny Dixon Jr. to agree to compile and mix the latest installment in the long-running DJ Kicks series. It is, somewhat remarkably, the legendary Detroiter's first commercially available mix set. This triple-vinyl edition features a whopping 19 cuts - all in unmixed form - from the 30 track mix. Musically, it's a blazed, jazzy, soulful and groovy as you'd expect, and contains a mixture of downtempo beats, nu-jazz and hazy house cuts from the likes of Flying Lotus, Dopehead, Peter Digital Orchestra, Nightmares On Wax, Soulful Session and Lady Alma.

Do You Remember (feat Jenny Penkin - Red Axes remix) - (5:24) 124 BPM
Review: Razor 'N' Tape Reserve's latest release is a label debut from Nenor, an Israeli producer previously best known for being one half of Mahogani Music-signed duo Rabo & Snob. He begins by offering up two cuts featuring vocalist Jenny Penkin: the attractive nu-disco/deep house fusion of 'How Can I Be Free' and the giddy nostalgic rush of revivalist number 'Do You Remember', which joins the dots between rushing piano house and late '80s Larry Heard productions. Red Axes provide a fantastic rework of the latter cut, retaining some of the dreamier and more life-affirming elements while also giving it their usual chunky grooves and psychedelic tinge. Elsewhere, 'Gonna Take My Time' is a locked-in late night delight full of sharp stabs, and 'Work That' is a restless, energy-packed late-night delight.
