Review: Our favourites, Cititrax, roll the third editions of Tracks out onto our shelves, and the results are unsurprisingly strong on this excellent various artists comp. It's a mixed bag of skills, as per usual, and the sounds are those of a new NYC, fuelled by a new sort of post-industrial sensibility. Amato Y Mariana open with the tight beats and groove of "Queires Bailar", followed closely by the ominous compositions of the EBM-flavoured "Montgat" from The Sixteen Steps. Then, His Dirty Secrets bleeps out some morphed acid on "Structures", and "Another Stranger" from Further Reductions churns out a slow, mild-mannered house experiment with its roots clearly planted in the coldest of waves. Sick.

Review: Ruled by Passion, Destroyed by Lust marks the fine debut of The Asphodells, Andrew Weatherall's latest collaboration with close friend and creative foil Timothy J Fairplay. Their compatibility shines through, taking their shared interests and inspirations and playfully tosses them together to create a stylish, coherent whole. The album displays its dark underbelly proudly, but there are more than enough shards of light to inspire those salivating after the bold melodies of Two Lone Swordsmen or the naive, child-like bagginess of Weatherall's Screamadelica era work. At times reminiscent of New Order and others cripplingly paranoia inducing, this ten track set concludes in sublime fashion with the duo's dreamy, cosmic disco-era cover of A.R. Kane's "A Love From Out Of Space".

Review: Rampant and 'up for it' as usual, the Cititrax label is back with a new set of wayward technoid experiments for the more trained ears on the dancefloors. This time it's Romania's Borusiade and newcomer The Sixteen Steps to share newest EP, and of course, proceed to annihilate any idea of a quiet night in. The former sets off with the mechanical acid bumps of "Infatuation", guided by an eerie set of vocal blurs, and that's followed by the comparatively more beat-centric techno of the apocalyptic "Confutation". The Sixteen Steps first lands on "Signals From The South", a house banger with noxious levels of mutant bass at its core, followed by the single-minded industrialism and sheer techno brutality of "Promises On The Run". WOWZAH!

Review: For over 15 years, Headman's Relish imprint has been one of the most vital electronic disco imprints. As this compilation EP demonstrates, it's still ahead of pretty much everyone else. Label owner Robi Insinna, the brains behind the Headman project, delivers a drum-heavy, murky take on The Mansisters' "Tex Control", while on "A Bit Of Sickness" Teniente Castillo & Mufti provide a near-definitive Relish track. Powerful, rumbling bass provides a back drop for eerie effects, dubbed out drums and some outer space electronic yelps. Fabrizio Mammarella, known for his work on Bear Funk and Dissident, also impresses with the chugging drums, low slung groove and out there effects of "Magnesium."

Review: For the second volume in the label's occasional Calypso Cult series, Multi Culti has snapped up two tracks apiece from "warriors of chug" (as they put it) Inigo Vontier and Thomass Jackson. Jackson steps up first, peppering a stretched out groove with trippy effects and hallucinatory electronics on the deliciously wonky 'Big Plastic Room', before opting for a bass-heavy, new beat-goes-to-the-moon vibe on the pleasingly out-there 'Slow Train'. Vontier instinctively pitches up the tempo and reaches for some ritualistic percussion sounds (think marimba melodies, oddball hand percussion and more) on the sparse psychedelic disco throb of 'Jungle Tungle', before reverting to 98 BPM on the psyobilin-doused weirdo dub of 'Hipocampos'. A brilliantly wayward EP all told.

Review: Two legends of the American electronic music scene reunite and delve further into their past influences as Interval. Featuring Ohio techno heroes Todd Sines; who back in the day released everywhere from Residual and 7th City, through to Planet E (and even minimalists Background Recordings) until he shifted his focus to being an art director in Los Angeles for some time. He's joined by fellow local Charles Noel on drums, who junglists might remember for his work as Fuzzy Logic and 21/22 Corporation back in the mid nineties. Here they inaugurate the HELIC.AL imprint with these explorations in post-punk and coldwave style antics. Tracks like "Waver" or "Arc" hone in on the '80s sound of gothic rock from both sides of the Atlantic, while "Wane" or "Stored" go for the classic minimal synth style nonchalance of The Normal or In Aeternam Vale, all featuring Sines' deadpan vocal delivery to impressive effect.?
