Review: The latest instalment of Fabric Presents sees Rødhåd serve up a mix of 28 unreleased tracks. Two of those pieces are from the German DJ himself - including the moody opener, "Inception Report" and "Nightlife Experiences", an expansive but driving track that features Theo Nasa on vocals. Elsewhere, Rodhad taps some familiar names for material. Techno veteran DVS1 doesn't disappoint with the droning, tunnelling "Void", Rene Wise delivers the sub-aquatic but spiky "Children of the Night", while Vril's "Pump Out Kids" is a craft peak-time selection, thanks to its epic bass. New artists are well represented too, with the fast-rising Inox Traxx delivering the rolling, drum-heavy, vocal-sampling "DSF" and the Terrence Dixon-style techno minimalism of Tascamboy's "Recovery" impressing.
Review: Bushwacka! returns with the 'Heaven On Earth EP', reminding us why he's a pioneer of tech house with tracks designed for maximum dancefloor impact. The title track, 'Heaven On Earth (Main Mix)', grooves with a signature bassline and crisp claps, enhanced by a creative vocal sample expressing a deep love for music. The house keys add a nice melodic touch, while a horn sample injects a playful yet sophisticated energy. 'Heaven On Earth (Instadub)' offers an alternate take, extending key elements and creatively editing the vocal sample for a more hypnotic, dubby vibe that deepens the groove without losing the original's energy. 'Roger That (Version 1)' shifts gears with a disco-infused tech-house groove reminiscent of Metro Area. The combination of disco and house rhythms, along with melodic flourishes, creates an infectious, mood-lifting atmosphere. 'Roger That (Version 2)' provides a smoother, more melodic take. Its more deeper, relaxed groove makes it a perfect counterpart to its disco-fueled predecessor. Overall, the EP showcases Bushwacka!'s ability to blend dancefloor energy with timeless, melodic creativity.
Review: Tresor resident IMOGEN delivers a hard-hitting debut release for the Berlin club's long-running label. Reflective of her own personal challenges, it starts with the brutal kicks and splurging acid of "The Way She Moves". That track slows down in the middle before picking up its break neck pace. "Summer Kiss" is more measured, but still has an edge, thanks to its slamming rhythm and heavy drums. "Tired Bones", whose title also documents her travails, resounds to a rolling groove and interference-led bleeps, while "Growing in the Dark" is a twitchy, high-octane workout led by psychedelic tones and dense claps. Meanwhile, "Breathe Again" resounds to robust break beats and mysterious synths, and closing track "Melancholy Flower" is an atmospheric ambient piece. Like all the best music, Metanoia is a true journey.
Review: Crytal Clear & Sweetpea, Lynx, Philth and Phentix on the dials... Massive vibes in the pipeline as V goes deep on the second volume of this futuristic, boundary-less EP from V. Dropping just moments after their 30th anniversary, there's no respite whatsoever... 'Dreamstate' slams and bumps with a bit of Bristol badness, 'Fiyah' is a pulsating floor firer sculpted in a way that only Lynx can while Philth, Fingers, Ella Sopp and Christopher Rauman go full future junglist soul in their turbo charged 'Tell U No' Finally Austrian Phentix fires us off into space for the finale 'Exit'. Will we ever come down?
Review: Bookending the summer with two killer Black Waves EPs, Bungle has been a major vibe provider in 2024, especially on Influence, one of his most consistent homes. As with the inaugural volume, these waves run deep and with restraint. 'Roads' tickles the keys with an LSB-like charm while 'Heading South' is the sound you'd associate with Doc Scott; pulsating, Detroitian and pure sci-fi. 'Indigo' follows a similarly space-bound mission before the breaks on the title track whisk us off to another dimension. Bungle is a master craftsman.
Review: And Lo! The light shone from the Kingdom Audios heavens. A declaration was proclaimed: 'Divinity' will be restored after 60 days and 60 nights (or 20 tunes at the very least) of torrential grotty 175-180BPM thick mucus-like rain. Swap your 'oh my goshes' for galoshes and duck for cover the likes of R!PT!DE, Kenji & Froidy, Error, Kurbz and many others squirt out some of their swampiest sounds and slimiest designs. Super squelchy specimens include GinX's mutant toad chorus 'Mercy', Sanity's strange sweepy, sketchy swagger jam 'Bleed' and the swooping slams of Slonkers' finale 'Run'. Blessed be the frogs.
Review: With over 20 years' of releases to his credit, Ramon Tapia is one of Europe's most experienced producers. As Silent Assassin shows, he isn't satisfised to stay in one place, and this four-tracker puts a greater focus on techno. That said, the techniques that define Tapia's productions are still present. The title track is a hypnotic, rolling affair that benefits from his propensity to deliver dynamic drops and builds. "Cathode" is more frenetic and intense, with dark chord sequences unfolding over a churning rhythm. There's a similar energy on "I'll Fix It", but Tapia makes nods to his house productions as a vocal loop is integrated into a galloping groove. "Fear" is just as dramatic, with chilling synths fused with tough kicks.
Review: 'Limo Trax Blue' delivers four tracks of heady, rave-inspired jams with each having a unique spin on house and techno influences. Just Jam & Jive Talk's 'The People's Elbow' kicks things off with a tribal-tech house vibe. Its techy, primal rhythms and catchy start-stop arrangements bring an infectious energy to the track for late-night sessions. Redshift's 'Whateva' takes a deeper route, blending deep house sensibilities with a playful, heady influence. It's a groovy, feel-good track that's perfect for setting an engaging mood on the dancefloor. Sakro's 'Vocalistic' throws it back to the warehouse rave days of the mid-'90s, with its heavy beats and trippy, minimalistic tribal sound. It's a raw, stripped-back jam that conjures up old memories. Tumero's 'Gimmicks' closes the EP with a grooving, addictive bassline and snappy rhythms, weaving in clever acid work that feels both fun and fresh. Its dynamic flow keeps the energy high, ensuring it's a track that will get stuck in your head and keep the dancefloor moving. 'Limo Trax Blue' is a strong collection of rave-inspired tracks.
