Sir Hiss - "Shower Man Time" - (3:58) 93 BPM
Review: Around the world in 12 wubs; Alix Perez's superlative 1985 continues to dig deeper and deeper into our psyche with the third volume of their faultless Atlas VA series. As always, the tempos are set to flexible as we slide and glide between the style and speeds courtesy of some incredible names... Cesco brings some proper dark UKG on 'Superstealth', Sir Hiss gets angular with the electroid funk of 'Shower Man Time', Visages go all slinky and futurist on 'Margit' while the bossman Perez and GLXY link up for something truly sexy and soulful with 'Green Lane'. All this and so much more, from Rockwell & Scepticz to Settle Down to Eprom, this is yet another exceptional adventure from the 1985 crew.

S Wave - (5:03) 93 BPM
Review: Whenever the name 'Joker' appears in the forthcoming section, we of course know that it is going to be a special occasion, with the undeniable pioneer of UK electronic music returning to his home imprint of Kapsize for another monstrous display of melodic madness. We open up with the heavy horn lines and springing synth pumps of 'Juggernaut', an instant classic, laced with hard hitting sub action and an overall epic feel. On the flip, more classic Joker synth work as the more grimey melodies and square-wave style leads of 'S Wave' take us to a completely new zone, delivering another hard hitter for both dubstep and grime fans alike.

Mild Snake - (4:13) 90 BPM
Review: Sneaker Social Club unveils Ivy Lab's latest offering deepening the duo's evolution from their drum and bass roots. Comprised of Gove Kidao and Jon Fogel, this Mild EP, born from a purposeful break in 2023 to experiment freely in the studio, presents a potent mix of jungle and drum and bass influences, intertwined with footwork elements and Ivy Lab's unique sound design. Tracks like "Look Away" and "N.V.T 01" showcase their knack for combining rugged bass weight with innovative production techniques, while "Kik Bak" delivers an acutely angled, pitched-up rap attack to further galvanise their radical sound.

Hypho - "Akanum" - (3:46) 93 BPM
Review: The run that the Manuka brand has been on over the last 2 years has been nothing short of excellent, with this latest offering from head honcho: Hypho and the explosive production techniques of Chef Boyarbeatz giving us three new spicy rollers. First up, an absolute devastator of an anthem from the pair as 'Smokers Club' sees a lethal combination of writhing LFO sweeps and hard hitting sublines deployed for a legendary combination. Next, Hypho steps out on solo duty for the warbling swampy subs of 'Akanum', giving us a slightly different feeling, before the dungeon-heavy epic of 'SELECTAH' sees Chef Boyarbeatz deliver a spine-tingling display. Very tidy indeed.

Tee - "S.L.B" - (4:48) 93 BPM
Review: Over the course of 2023, there is no denying that Incurzion Audio were one of the most impressive imprints out there, with a fantastic focus on unveiling a wide range of new dubstep talent. This time around, they commence the year with a heavyweight compilation drop, inviting 30 artists inside for the fourth edition of their 'We Are Incurzion' series. From the epic soundscaping of Gendo's 'Marble Elephant' to the emotive synth melodies of Lokal's 'Flatline' and more minimal percussive clicks of 'Ballistic' from Undercentrum & UMBRA, we get a fantastic array of electronic sounds to enjoy. For us, the two standouts include both the stomach-turning sub crunches of RWB's 'Vask Des Na' and of course the mind-melting acidity of Eth:er's monstrous 'Requiem' original. Awesome work across the board!

Masai Duty - (3:38) 93 BPM
Review: Seeing Numa Crew make a return is always a thing of joy, especially when they are making that return alongside such illustrious companies, namely Killa P and Long Range. All entities combine within a seriously explosive A-side, which taking the title 'Bun Dem Down', delivers a gut punch of subby synth switchups and metallic drum crashes, kicking off this brand System Music drop with a serious amount of style. On the flip, 'Masai Duty' takes the project in an entirely different direction, focussing on ear-catching vocal chants and bouncy rhythms to match, giving us two very different sides of the Numa Crew coin. Very tidy indeed!

Lost Love - (5:17) 93 BPM
Review: Over the years, Synkro has become pretty synonymous with the more experimental side of dubstep music, often infusing numerous different elements of garage and techno into his sounds to create an incredible array of exciting rhythmic designs. This brand new album project is the perfect way to showcase what we mean, featuring 19 tracks of pure creative bliss. From the bouncing drum grooves of 'Get Down' and punching synth kicks of 'Angels', through to the dubwise delights of 'Dub Specialist, we see Synkro explore so many different avenues of sound with this project, it's a genuine pleasure to behold, and that's before we even get into the fantastic selection of remixes. For us, highlights include the stunning percussive mastery of 'Lost For Words', alongside the beautiful vocal edits of 'Tell Me' and introspective pad textures of 'If Only'. Incredible stuff.

Stringathon - (3:01) 93 BPM
Review: As one of both grime & UKG's most prominent production masterminds, seeing a brand new album landing from the one and only Preditah is always exciting to see. This time around, the levels of fusion between garage & 140 are absolutely through the roof, as we take in classic instrumentals such as 'Blacksmith' with its bulbous 808 clunks and 'Stringathon', driven by catchy string plucks in a classic, old school grime style. This whole project feels refreshing beyond belief, removing any feeling of stagnancy from the grime genre, with our highlights having to include the super tidy drum & synth combos of 'Barry Allen', the hard hitting sub-drives of 'Burberry' and of course the vibrant low end stutters and glitchy melodic injections of 'Brum'. Incredible work from a true UK legend.

Disfunktional Minds - (4:20) 93 BPM
Review: If we are talking about legends of the UK underground, there really aren't many names that rank above Skream. A veteran of many sounds, we see him return to his roots with this latest selection to release some prized unreleased classics, spanning from 2002 to 2003. This is a must have selection for any serious steppers fan, with the project bleeding authenticity across the entire track listing, from the bubbly drum bounces and warped bass tones of 'Depth Charge' to the grimey synth textures of 'Disfunktional Minds' and high energy eskimo-inspired drum switches of 'Oh My Gosh'. It's one for dubstep historians, that sees Skream's earlier more grime-influenced productions finally land in the public domain.

Distractions - (5:17) 93 BPM
Review: Next up from the Exit team, we see them introduce us to the potent sounds of Leftlow, a unique producer whose stripped back style across this powerful EP are sure to cause many a ruckus. We begin with the sweeping dubstep flavours of 'Queasy', which delivers a shimmering combination of high ended percussion and low end warbles, followed by the skippy kick manoeuvres of 'Green Eyes' and post-grime metal slaps of 'Pistons', giving us three very different directions to explore. From here, the more funky-infused rhythms of 'Distractions' give us a big boost in rhythmic energy, upping the pace significantly, before 'Adrift' yanks us back underground with a sweltering display of subby goodness. Finally, the spacious perc clicks and tidy pads of 'Thoughtful' round off our journey with a smart finale. Lovely work!

Infernal Sounds Presents: Future Forms

Saraphim - "Cool Box" - (5:36) 93 BPM
Review: As one of the most undeniably consistent dubstep imprints of 2022, we are thrilled to see the Infernal Sounds crew turning the heat up right from the start of the year as they deliver a mega compilation project, featuring 17 absolute sizzlers. The range that Infernal Sounds are able to deliver is very apparent across this project from start to finish, from the otherworldly chord shimmers of Conzi's 'Drift' to the more sublow synthesiser sweeps of 'Executioner' from Blottarz and all the way back to the intricate percussive mastery of Bisweed's 'By My Side'. It's an all star cast, with the likes of Mistah, Substrada, Dayzero, Gnesha, Kodama and more all providing heavy hitters, with our favourites including E S P's super spooky whirlpool entitled 'Open Mind', next to Saraphim's super smooth 'Cool Box' original.

Review: As always, White Peach have arrived and delivered a simply sumptuous collection of dubstep-inspired originals, this time welcoming in the maverick sounds of Ourman for a stunning display of production-based mastery. We open up with the shimmering soundscapes and delight synth designs of 'Nowhere To Look', a creeping emotive epic that despite having a slightly slower tempo, sets the tone perfectly. Next, the more mysterious drips of 'Glock' and the grime-inspired synthesiser slides of 'Rezolve' are whisked into play, showcasing the incredible versatility of
Ourman. Finally, 'Danz' gives us a smooth sweep through choppy instrumental flutters, closing off this frankly outstanding project in style.

Empathy - (5:10) 98 BPM
Relieved - (5:14) 97 BPM
Review: It's always exciting to see the Manuka monika arrive in the store, as they this time welcome a very exciting combination with the infamous sounds of Roklem & Sebalo being introduced to the label with four absolute firecrackers. First up, 'Empathy' fuses a glittering array of syncopated drum sweeps and acidic synthesiser pads above, before the slower, more jittery rhythmic arrangements and industrial backdrops of 'Moving Forward' take hold. From here, 'Nervous' delivers a much more typically steppers-influenced arrangement as bulbous sub sweeps and blippy melodies are introduced in combination over a spacey percussive backdrop, with the emotive harmonic structures and introspective melodies of 'Relieved' then draw the project to a close. Excellent work.

Jungle Revolution In Dub

Intro (feat Scientist) - (0:30) 93 BPM
Played by: 6Blocc, Lojik, See-I
Review: Rebel MC aka Congo Natty's well received 2013 album Jungle Revolution now gets the remix treatment by the who's who of the scene. From legends to upstarts, the results are quite impressive. The man is credited as being one of the original UK junglists, setting the foundations for the sound/scene and how it has evolved since, so these guys have their work cut out for them. Highlights on here are the Dubkasm Dragon Slayer mix of "Dub Souljah " with its purist dancehall vibes, the new school representing proper dub with the Jinx In dub Steppa remix of "Nu Beginningz" and the legendary Adrian Sherwood delivering his remix of "UK All Stars In Dub ". There's a lot to get through on here. "London Dungeons Dub (Young Warrior remix - Son Of Jah Shaka)" brings more of the purist dub vibes back again, DJ Madd's remix of "Jah Warriors In Dub" is no doubt the most fierce modern vibe on here while "Nu Beginningz Dubwise (Mungos Hi Fi remix)" goes for the more smoky, low-slung vibes. It one Jah!

NVRMND - "Chatter" - (3:39) 94 BPM
Review: Next Level Dubstep have delivered a delightful box of weaponry with this latest compilation, unloading seven original steppers from some of the seasons heaviest hitters. We open up with the crunchy reverberations of 'Tribez', a dizzying display from Noclu, which then gives way to both the squelching supremacy of Bukez Finezt's 'French Hideaway' and the system-busting sub bulges of 'Infinity Chamber' from the ever-ready Roklem & Sebalo. Next up, the choppy synth slaps of Mikrodot's 'Unconscious Mind' then awaken, followed in their slumberous state by 'Chatter' a convulsing box of distorted rhythm and urgent string work. Finally, 3WA arrives with a typically dizzying design on 'Consciousness', with the lethal synthetics and breaks-like drum crunches of Wolf'd's 'Run!' closing off the project with a serious smash.

Runway - (4:30) 93 BPM
Review: As always, Kromestar has delivered a very impressive box of magic with his brand new album, unleashing a dazzling display of stunning sonic satisfaction, courtesy once again of the Nebula Music Group. From start to finish this new project touches every nerve and unveils every emotion, from the blissful, moogy soundscapes of the introductory 'Daydream', to the syncopated shuffles and moody bass pulses of 'Submarine', alongside the more purple influenced synth flicks of 'Grudge'. The whole album is a truly fantastic overview of just how versatile Kromestars production palette is, with our favourites including the reesey slides of 'Fault', the emotive string work of 'Runway' and of course, the soundsystem busting synthetics of 'On Sight', which sees Kromestar let loose his more raucous dubstep side. Honestly, it's an awesome body of work!

Featuring 17 incredible originals, it's a masterpiece of 140 themes and dubstep influences, from the grizzling reeses of 'Mindstate' and subtle sitar slides of 'From Wallah With Love' to the percussive brilliance of 'Beautiful Time To Be Alive' and system ready sub-marches of 'Deep In The Jungle'. Review: Pull up! MoJoe and Chemist RNS's Triple S project hits album-sized proportions with this powerfully explorative bass document. Insanely sharp grime beats such as the groaning "Seen" and the concrete crumbling "Skrillah" act as the spine running through the body of work but the real treat here are the deviations and excursions; the jazzy, off-grid UKG funk or "New Shh", the 23rd century electro breakbeats on "Real", the skittish drums and gamey textures of the title track or Drax's dark wave remix, the list goes on...

Shapeshifter - (4:51) 93 BPM
Review: Whenever the Infernal Sounds banner is unfurled in the store, we know it's time to sit back and embrace the inevitable sonic onslaught they have in store, with this latest four track collection from Teffa being just the ticket. We open up with the vibrant sub processing and dubwise arrangement of 'Time For A Change', taking calming vocal samples and spacious layouts to unleash a monstrous introduction. Next, more percussive-lead energy as 'Shapeshifter' then arrives with a skippy feeling laced throughout its tidy drum designs and subtle subs, with the spacey pad backdrops and delayed vocals of 'Nobody Cares' then giving us a glittering follow up. Finally, the LFO squelches of 'Velvet Rooms' give us a tasty finale to chow down on, rounding off another very successful outing from the Infernal Sounds team.

Review: As always with Wheel & Deal, the team are delivering the goods in style as head honcho and mastermind N-Type links up with the powerful production abilities of Sleeper for a sizzling 3-track delight. We begin with 'Dozer', a system-ready stomper jam packed with powerful subweight and dizzy drum designs, followed by the lethal synthy slices and sharpened snare slaps of 'Arcane'. From here, 'Drift' then delivers a slightly more stripped back arrangement, focussing more so on potent sub-lines and glittering background arpeggios, before the raucous soundscaping and gnarly bass drifts of 'Carbon' give the EP when hell of an explosive outro!
