Review: Lumberjacks In Hell welcomes deep house vet Andy Compton and Shamrock for a trip into plush disco, laid back funk and more besides. Bunny Chow was reportedly recorded in South Africa, and features the vocal talents of Asli on a number of the tracks. You can certainly hear the Afro influence creeping into the simmering groove of the title track, while Asli's vocals shine through the clearest on the downtempo tones of "Everything Is Gravy." "Nifanyeje" is another warm trip through Afro disco replete with noodling guitar lines and a crisp drum machine beat, while "Roga Mziki" ends the record on a high note with a final blast of that infectious, sunkissed sound the pair have clearly mastered on their musical adventure.

Review: After pit stops in Cuba and Kenya, Auntie Flo and Esa's Highlife World Series lands in Uganda for its closing edition. Recorded over various stints at the East Africa music conference DoaDoa in Jinja in the past year, these four tracks find our intrepid pair of travelling fusionists working with musicians from Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya and South Africa. First up is "DoaDoa14" by Christopher and Swahili Alley, named in honour of its genesis at that year's conference and a fine journey through spiritual African house music. Next up Esa shows off his prowess at extended dancefloor burners with a superb twisting remix of Santuri's "Min Kula" whilst the B side features Bantu Clan Vs Sarabi's "Africa Ni Leo" in both extended and remixed by Behr form. A fine end to a consistently enlightening series.

Review: Whatever Whiskey Disco serves up on their regular multi-artist re-edit EPs, it's invariably high quality. Happily, that's certainly the case with the material showcased on Make Your Day. You'll struggle to find a more positive and hedonistic chunk of disco-funk/boogie rearrangement than Derek Kaye's rolling revision "Sing a Song", while Sandrobianchi and Tripman's "Strawberry Letter" is extraordinarily loved up and psychedelic in the best possible way (and, yes, it's definitely Balearic). The EP also includes some high-grade, synth-laden electrofunk (Rabo & Snob's ace "No One Can Do It") and more than a sprinkling of AOR disco camp (In The Night's thrillingly tongue-in-cheek "Love Drop").

Review: Having recently delivered a killer 12" with P-funk legend Bootsy Collins, Hifi Sean joins forces with Las Vegas-based New Yorker Peter Shalvoy on Midnight Riot. The experienced twosome delivers a quartet of floor-friendly cuts that gleefully blur the boundaries between disco re-edits, loopy disco-house, and the kind of sample-heavy, cut-up dancefloor fare championed by Tiger & Woods. Our pick of the bunch is probably the slo-mo disco-funk sleaze of "Femme", with the similarly dubby, low-slung and trippy "Kids" (a significantly scrambled rework of a familiar classic) not far behind. Those seeking more up-tempo, peak-time thrills should check the Italo disco-tinged throb of "Soviet", or the hypnotic dancefloor pressure of "Darling".

Review: Former Sonar Kollektiv contributor Stee Downes has enjoyed a long working relationship with Sebastian Doring AKA Lovebirds, with the pair first joining forces way back in 2011. Their latest joint effort is, as the title suggests, a pleasingly soulful and frankly joyous affair. Opener 'Freedom (Lovebirds Summer of 79 Mix)' sees Downes singing soulfully over a hybrid deep house/disco/electrofunk groove - all squelchy synth-bass, Nile Rodgers style clipped guitars and colourful synth sounds - while 'Big Mistake' is a brilliant stripped back slice of synth-powered electronic soul. Downes' effortlessly emotive vocals once again take centre stage on deliciously laidback Balearic soul number 'Prove', while the EP closing Sirs rework of 'Freedom' is a P-funk flavoured modern boogie classic in waiting.

Review: Who can deny anything Roy Ayers, really? Japanese pianist and electronic music producer Kan Sano reworks the American soul, funk and jazz legend's infamous hit "Everybody Loves The Sunshine". He breaks down the sugar-dusted original into something freeform, downtempo and acid jazz leaning, while on the virtual flip, "Music Overflow", sounds exactly like a production you would make after being inspired by sunshine, soul, Roy Ayers and a room full of drum machines and synthesisers.
