Review: A trio of re-edits here, kicking off with a fresh rework of The Four Tops' 'Ain't No Woman (Like The One I've Got)' from 1973 that's credited to all three of the named artists. Keita then goes solo to bring us 'Difference' - the source for this one remains unidentified but the 'Afro Blues' titling of the mix tells you pretty much all you need to know in terms of sound and style. The EP's then completed by The Thoors' 'Learn To Forget', which loops up chunks of The Doors' 'Soul Kitchen' - exactly as you'd expect from an outfit whose previous works have included 'Peace Rogue' and 'Love Her Badly'!

Review: Without fail, Futureboogie Recordings' annual "Summer Riot" EPs are always amongst the Bristol-based imprint's finest releases of the year. This year's edition - the eight in total - is no different. It's five floor-friendly cuts include a locked-in chunk of late night techno hypnotism by A Sagittarian (undulating opener "Machine Elf"), a raw and wonky, mind-altering analogue house jam full of Yellow Magic Orchestra style computer bleeps (Red Flower Union's "Natural Self") and a piano-sporting chunk of old school house revivalism from Statue ("Ivory"). Manchester producer Neil Diablo hits the spot with the starburst Italo-disco chug of "Colorado", while Kincaid gleefully dances through New York freestyle and Bobby Orlando style hi-NRG on EP standout "Bulfas".

Review: First released back in 2021, Belgian-Japanese artist Ailli's debut EP - a collaboration with another hotly-tipped Belgian producer, Transistorcake - returns in expanded form. Fittingly, this new edition adds a wealth of unheard remixes from Japanese artists. There's plenty to set the pulse racing among the five original tracks on show, including the low-slung, dubbed-out psych-disco chug of 'Dansu', the sparkling Italo-disco revivalism of acid-fired throb-job 'Oki', and the immersive, dawn-ready dreaminess of 'Genki'. Remix wise,Shinichi Osawa's TB-303 powered acid house take on 'Dansu' is superb, Narkiaki's Maurice Fulton-esque tweak of 'Pari Pari' is a treat, and the Stones Taro revision of solo Aili tune 'Toki-Doki' is an impossible-to-pigeonhole, groove-driven delight. In a word: essential!

Review: French house legend Alan Braxe teamed up with Parisian "urban folk, ghetto funk and soulful pop" duo The Spimes to release the original 'Moments In Time' EP back in 2013, and now it's back with a whole bunch of new remixes, just in time for the new decade. The mood overall is "The Beloved meets 80s synth-pop in Ibiza", with the new rubs of 'Time Machine' ranging from the spangly and dancefloor-friendly (Le Crayon) to the laidback and dreamy (Chateaubriand), and 'One More Chance' served in your choice of glacially chilled or fat-assed n' strutty flavas courtesy of Memory Tapes and Lifelike, respectively.

Review: Three tracks from as many artists make up this first salvo in Frank Music's 10th birthday celebrations. Amount gets the ball rolling with 'Dphrase', which opens with simple 4/4s, goes all fluttery and wispy and then bursts out into a synth-y, Euro-sounding instrumental sitting right at the point where house, prog and disco collide. The Captain Of Your Heart's 'Love' then takes us into dreamy 80s pop territory before the EP's completed by Levitation Venue's 'Everything's Good', the standout for yours truly and a laidback lil' groover in which gently meandering ivories meet some impressively understated acid.

Review: Collaborations are often the fortune of timing. With Andy having moved on since closing the Dissident label to launching his Cave Paintings project to Tim's departure from Battant and striking out as Andrew Weatherall's engineer and soon to be co-member of The Asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at each's respective studios. A love of new wave, new beat, UK Bleep and Detroit techno all feature in B-Ultras and the aptly titled, Neu Beat. Both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of Andy's (and co-hort Joe Hart) infamous World Unknown dancefloor. Running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid house's ideals. Clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. Keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. Backing these up is a remix of B-Ultras from Jamie Paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some B-boy Dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.
