People (Rayko extended Birthday edit) - (10:58) 118 BPM
Review: Barely a week goes by without the release of another 12" or digital single for perpetual re-edit don Rayko. Luckily, this synth-heavy selection box of house-friendly electrofunk dubs is probably one of his strongest releases of recent times. Arguably the strongest cut is "People", which is available in two versions; a tidy 7-minute Rayko 12 mix, and an extended, Tiger & Woods style builder that stretches out for 11 synth-laden minutes. Elsewhere, check the Prince-ish "Revue", sweet "Searching To Find The One" and "Heads Together", a sprightly dub of an '80s O'Jays fave.

Review: Vehicle, the preeminent Russian disco label, run by the man, myth and legend, Valique, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary. Now in this celebratory mood, and with the party needing to continue, they've looked back to the tunes from their fifth birthday party - half a decade ago. Highlights include the adrenaline-fuelled sultry funk jam "Shake (V's New Yorika edit)," by Brass Destruction, the disco-rock (think of Survivor at Studio 54) of "You Gave Me Love" by CHA and the infectious new wave boogie of "We Got The Direction" by People's Voice. Party central.

Tonight's The Night - (5:42) 120 BPM
At Claudjas - (6:44) 91 BPM Hot
Body Working - (5:20) 121 BPM
Spaced - (5:12) 136 BPM
Review: A Juno Download exclusive here, collecting some rare Pete Herbert edits previously only available on a CD release from 2010, showcasing his fantastic taste and tweaking prowess. "Tonight's The Night" is a decidedly upbeat cosmic number with Italo leanings, filled with delayed piano and synth breakdowns, sounding most like his work as Reverso 68. "At Claudia's", meanwhile, has a much more Mediterranean vibe, with a siesta tempo and a breathy female spoken word vocal and flanged guitars. "Body Working" is another fast moving Italo oddity, with a hi-NRG arpeggio and motivational robo vocals. The highlight however is "Spaced", an edit of Sheila and Black Devotion's Nile Rodgers produced "Spacer". It draws out the incredible piano refrain and insistent guitar lick, holding back the vocal until the final third, when the track explodes into life.

Baby, Let's Trip Out - (4:38) 131 BPM
Review: Originally released on vinyl way back in 2008, this floor-friendly digital reissue sees re-edit fiend Gay Marvine tweaking a quartet of cuts from flamboyant disco deviant Sylvester. There are straight-up disco dubs of "Band Of Gold" (previously re-edited magnificently by The Glimmers for an Eskimo comp) and "I Who Have Nothing", plus a handy take on the riotous "Do You Wanna Funk" that benefits from a tougher, digitally altered intro. There's also a fabulous re-jig of "Take Me To Heaven" (here titled "Baby, Let's Trip Out") that emphasizes the dubbier elements of the supremely camp original.

Luvless - "Castles In The Sky" - (6:19) 100 BPM Hot
Luvless - "We Need To" - (5:38) 100 BPM
Martin Hayes - "Bobby's Theme" - (6:08) 105 BPM
Review: When this split EP from rising talents Luvless and Martin Hayes first dropped on rose-red wax last autumn, it picked up support from a wide range of DJs (Maxxi Soundsystem, Daz-I-Kue, OOFT and Doc Martin included). It's easy to see why. Luvless's shuffling, sample-heavy blends of dewy-eyed deep house and sugary disco fit into a range of sets, while the familiar samples ("Just the Two of Us" gets filtered to oblivion on the chugging "Castles in the Sky") guarantees a flicker of recognition from difficult dancefloors. The real stand-out moment, though, comes from Martin Hayes, whose delicious "Bobby's Theme" gets just the right balance between disco-funk reverence and sinewy, deep house sensuality.

Spiral Jetty - (7:35) 122 BPM
Crystal Voyager - (7:32) 123 BPM
Region Centrale - (6:42) 119 BPM
Review: Presumably DJ Kaos spent much of lockdown crafting fresh re-edits of trippy little-known tunes, because his latest four-track selection of heady reworks is arguably his strongest release for some time. We're particularly enjoying the urgent, vocoder-loving disco-funk madness of 'Tapping The Source', a wild and wonderful rearrangement of a thoroughly obscure cover version of Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall', though the more cosmic, hypnotic headiness of piano-sporting Italo-disco number 'Crystal Voyager' is similarly addictive. Elsewhere, 'Spiral Jetty' is an extra-druggy, Italo-disco style re-make of a familiar nu-disco classic, while 'Region Centrale' is a delay-laden take on what sounds like an early Chicago house jam (with added 'Buffalo Gals' acapella snippets).

Review: Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Voyage Recordings are a new label with a thing for the deeper side of life. That's all good with us, especially when it's as slickly produced as the four tracks found here. With all their key artists making appearance, we get gently washed out to sea on tranquil waves of slo-mo dance starting with CTEPEO 57's jazzy, stoned-house, the velvety smoocher "Rosebud", the lean and serene bliss-house of "Dreams on Kepler" and moody electro-house closer "Gravy". Slick!

In My Hands (Hot Toddy remix) - (7:11) 116 BPM
One True Light (Ron Basejam remix) - (4:33) 105 BPM
Review: Following on from their successful hook up with 2020 Vision, nu-disco heroes Crazy P have now joined forces with the Classic label (how has this not happened before?!) and here we get the "Truelight EP". Spacey retro soul balladry gives way to filthy cosmic funk on "One True Light" and "In My Hands" is nasty Padlock EP-style disco of the highest order. Hot Toddy (aka Chris Todd of Crazy P) remixes the latter into hypnotic acid and band co-founder Ron Basejam turns the former into chugging, sun-warped Balearic boogie.

They Speak Colour - (5:37) 120 BPM Hot
The City - (5:59) 130 BPM
The Cull - (3:24) 97 BPM
Review: Since launching on vinyl in 2019, the Ron's Reworks series from Crazy P co-founder Jim Baron AKA Ron Basejam has consistently delivered high-quality reworks that tend to shy away from the obvious and over-played. The standout on the series' fourth missive is undoubtedly 'They Speak Colour', a loopy, soft-focus disco-house jam whose relentless grooves, synthesizer splashes and simmering orchestration make it sound like Soundstream after a bong full of Marijuana smoke and several disco biscuits. Elsewhere, 'The City' is a canny revision of an unusual disco-boogie number that builds through sections of drums and cut-up, scat style vocals before finally flourishing late on, while 'The Cull' is a deep and meandering head-nodder tailor-made for warm-up sets and sit-down bar gigs.

Turn It Loose - (4:02) 110 BPM Hot
Shake It - (5:48) 107 BPM
Review: Having spent much of their nine-year existence blazing a trail for good-time party breaks and ghetto funk, the crew behind Goodgroove Records has decided to turn their attention to disco. The first Disco Series release comes from Glaswegian party-starters Shaka Loves You, whose punchy, horn-heavy take on nu-disco owes much to their funk breaks background. There's much fun to be had throughout, from the electric piano heavy, organic disco-house bump of opener "Make It Last", to the toe-tapping, 107 BPM disco-funk-meets-ragga goodness of closer "Shake". In between, they stroll further towards summery funk territory on "Turn It Loose", and layer snaking saxophone lines over a rolling groove on the tasty "If You Give".

And here Warrington lad Danny Worrall's disco and re-edits label Masterworks Music do just that, with an anniversary collection packing a whopping 50 back catalogue nuggets. You'll excuse us the full track-by-track, then, but suffice to say that this is the label that helped launch the careers of Dr Packer and Natasha Kitty Katt, both of whom feature here, and with names like Ziggy Phunk, Rayko, Alkalino, Chuggin' Edits and Fabiolous Barker also on bill, you should already have a pretty good idea what to expect. Classy stuff all round, and a great VFM package - here's to five more years!

Review: New on the Delusions of Grandeur label (a sub label of Jimpster's excellent Freerange imprint), Berlin based duo Session Victim have made a gem of an EP that would find a good home in the racks of any nu-disco fans. "The Keyboarder" sounds like something Treasure Fingers would drop, as it's both full of groove and heavy on the silky string stabs. The clean, live sounding drums on "Tomorrow Night" alone are worth getting excited about, underpinning a corking deep rhythm that becomes infectious. Well worth checking out.

Review: Whiskey Disco presents a quartet of blisteringly good reworks from Dead Rose Music Company and Satin Jackets on this fine release. Dead Rose Music Company open proceedings in style with "Nothin To Ya", a brilliantly low-slung, bass-heavy re-edit-turned-remix of the Jones Girls' "You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else" that turns the delightful original into a dubbed-out chunk of dancefloor chugginess. The more upbeat "Too Late", based on a lesser-known favourite, is almost as good. Satin Jackets' "The Hustle" provides some looser - but still formidably heavy - dewy-eyed disco-soul thrills, while "I Can See The Light" is more Balearic than a wet, sloppy kiss from a grinning stranger.

Review: Every 12 months, Fingerman's prolific Hot Digits imprint serves up an epic compilation entirely made up of exclusive, previously unheard re-edits, reworks and original productions. They're invariably excellent and this year's edition - the fifth in total - is even more epic than usual. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing amongst the dancefloor focused 32-track selection, from the throbbing Italo-disco style electronic sleaziness of Peza's "I Gotta Little Love" and the bouncy, acid-flecked cheeriness of Limpdisco's "Rush Hour", to the angular nu-disco heaviness of Andy Kidd's "The Dope Cube", the sparkling 80s boogie goodness of LUP INO's "Don't Stop Fooling" and and disco-funk-goes-house pump of Fingerman's "Family Ties". Keep an eye out too for rock solid rubs by Dr Packer, Chuggin Edits, Rayko and Andy Buchan.

Review: There's a feeling with Sound Stream records akin to supping on a cup of tea after a long hard winter day, so perfectly pitched and satisfying is his approach to making house music. On "Julie's Theme", there's some unabashed delay rippling going on, but still that ever-loving disco groove sits underneath in the bassline on the one and the natural hand claps. On the virtual flip, the disco is thoroughly loud and proud, with "Inferno" resplendent in searing Philly strings and slinky bass that was built for grooving. Once again, Sound Stream has delivered a simple but meaningful demonstration of house music perfection.

Review: The OTP Party Breaks series rarely disappoints, and this four tracker from Runaway man Marcos Cabral is no exception. It showcases a number of tasty reworks of forgotten proto-house, deep house and electronic disco gems, offering retro grooves perfectly suited to contemporary dancefloors. The real killer is "Better Think Twice", a delightful vocal excursion that bears all the hallmarks of the Paradise Garage circa 1988. "Just Like Good Love" is a long, loping house tweak of a simmering soul nugget, while "Do To Me" and "Hot Stop" pit clattering syn-drums and nasty synth bass against all manner of classic melodies and proto-house synths.

Review: Valique's V's Edits reworks have long been some of the most popular re-edits on this platform, with DJs responding not only to their floor-friendly nature but also the wide range of sounds and styles he turns his hand to. So, what's on offer this time around? Well, for starters Yellow Blues is raising money for victims of the war in Ukraine, a country to which Valique has family ties. As usual, it's a mixed bag of goodness, with highlights including a squelchy, TB0-303 speckled take on a Johnny Cash classic, the chugging nu-disco/swamp blues fusion of 'Was It Worth It?', a fine revision of Rodrigues classic 'You Can't Get Away', a housed-up tweak of an old Doors gem ('Learn To Forget') and a toe-tapping, club-ready revision of Kenny Rogers' sing-along 'Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Conidtion is In)'.

Review: Three cheers for Valique's Vehicle label, which this month celebrates 13 years releasing hot-to-trot re-edits, reworks and floor-friendly fusions. To mark the occasion, the producer sometimes known as "V" has put together this expansive, 24-track collection of killer cuts old and new. It's a varied but universally club ready selection, with highlights including - but no way limited to - the silky deep house/disco fusion of KC&SUB's "Black Waters Hold (V's As It Used To Be Edit)", the soaring, shirts-off disco-house brilliance of V's take on Milly Jackson's "Baby", the dubbed-out Marvin Gaye revision that is Rocknrolla Soundsystem's "Troubleman" and a delightful slab of rubbery nu-disco brilliance from Feel Good Alliance (the mash-up style aceness of "Show Me Love", which joins the dots between Escort and Robin S in startling fashion).

Review: Given the quality of his previous releases this year - most notably the Lilt EP of original productions - 2012 could be a breakthrough 12 months for Portuguese producer Humberto Matias, better known as Social Disco Club. Here, he goes back to the disco edit scene where he first made his name, offering up two lip-smacking party jams. Lead cut "Na Mouche" is particularly good, fluctuating between growling disco-rock and percussion-laden party disco for seven sweaty minutes. "Disco Sucks (Again)" offers a formidably tough and driving version of Harvey Mason's iconic 80s boogie cut "Groovin You", wisely concentrating on the track's famous percussion and widely sampled backing vocals.

Review: When Eskimo Recordings approached Bill Brewster with the idea of putting together a compilation exploring his epic record collection, the acclaimed journalist and DJ decided to take a widescreen approach. While the CD and vinyl versions are split into multiple, themed editions ("Post-Punk", "Balearic" and "House"), this vast, 41-track digital edition gathers everything together in one place. Predictably, it's a hugely impressive and eye-opening set, with Brewster serving up largely obscure or long-forgotten cuts that range in scope from trippy, dubbed-out post-punk disco, jaunty jazz-funk, synth-heavy boogie and heavily percussive Afro-disco grooves, to saucer-eyed European synth-pop, the dub techno of Maurizio, Swag's early UK tech-house and the East Midlands deep house bump of Charles Webster's "A Love From San Francisco" project. In other words, it's a cracker from start to finish.

Review: Katakana Edits first compilation, 2017's "Crate Diggin", was an epic collection of high-grade re-edits, mash-ups and reworks packed to the rafters with tried-and-tested dancefloor treats. This belated follow-up is even more epic, with the popular label squeezing in no less than 50 tracks that variously touch on riotous disco-funk, dub disco, new wave, disco-rock, deep funk, Afro-boogie, swamp funk, Latin beats, boogie, pitched-down chuggers, boogaloo, hip-hop and everything in between. You'd expect that standard to be high - it is a "best of" collection after all - and it is. If you need an instant armoury of scintillating club cuts, look no further.

Review: Back in the 80s, re-edit heroes Razormaid literally cut and spliced tapes of popular tunes into new shapes and sounds. Thirty years on and although the formats have changed the philosophy remains the same. Aaron Dae and JKriv's label Razor 'N' Tape specialises in chopped up disco but here they looked to house instead. There are ten wondrous jams on this album, our favourites including the smooth Balearic work out "Free" (Loverbirds' clever Donald Fagen rework), the skippy afterhours garage of "Music Overflow" and the cool and deep "Dynamics".

Review: After releasing Luke Vibert's acid-heavy Ridmik set, Hypercolour boss Jamie Russell asked the Cornishman if he had any disco-flavoured Kerrier District material knocking about. He answered in the affirmative, and 4, Vibert's first full-length under the alias for a decade, was born. Although the project was initially inspired by Black Devil Disco Club's warped electronic disco (and, presumably, the smoother grooves of Metro Area), a decade on Vibert's approach is noticeably different. While the fluid synths, undulating disco basslines and cheery grooves remain in place, the intoxicating depth of the original has been replaced by a cheekiness more readily associated with Vibert's Wagon Christ pseudonym. It is, then, a different beast than previous Kerrier District outings, but no less entertaining.

Review: Ron Basejam is the alter ego of keyboardist James Baron of Crazy P and Secret Stealth fame. Here he drops his superb full album for Yam Who's ISM label. Fans of Ron include the likes of Gilles Peterson (who put the charismatic ''Into My Life'' on the recent Brownswood Bubblers 5 compilation), DJ Harvey, Dam Funk, The Revenge and Greg Wilson, and it's easy to see why. The album trips through musical genres effortlessly taking elements of the past and fusing them with modern day production techniques. Ron's influences are all represented here, with touches of deep house, disco and melancholic dreamscapes set against jazzual synth funk-fired treatments and vocal sample snippet production. Definitely one to check.

Review: Headed up by Brighton's Fingerman, Hot Digits Music return with London's Steve Gladdis aka Smashed Atoms - who after some spectacular releases on his own Magic Circles imprint and Paper Music, explodes onto the label with "Cut This Way". Sounding like it takes it cues from NYC disco legends Blondie as much as it does from American rapper Dimples D. "Wonderlust" (extended version) goes for more of a lo-slung deep house vibe which we found pretty sweet, while the bleepy "Lost Someone" gets back to the program with some sunny party vibes. Also featuring some superb remix action from Get Down Edits featuring Micko Roche and the Chopshop regular from Montreal: Dave Gerrard.

Light You Up - (6:11) 123 BPM Hot
Review: Label boss Luke Solomon returns to Classic with his first original offering in three years. On "Light You Up", Solomon recruits the poetic talents of Queen Rose and his recent disco cohort Amy Douglas - who's no stranger to Classic having collaborated with Juan Maclean on the Peach Melba project. For its live and loose feel, Solomon brings in long-time friend Andy Neal on bass and guitar and Powerdance bandmate Danny Ward aka Moodymanc behind the drums. With its sleazy guitar lick and absolutely fine vocal work over those snaking rhythms and liquid bass: it's already being championed by the likes of Horse Meat Disco. The track was mixed down by West Coast deep house legend Lance DeSardi for Builders Of Paradise.

Review: Chopshop regular DJ Laurel returns to Katakana Edits - an imprint he's graced a number of times before - with a five-track selection of tried-and-tested revisions. He begins with a rolling revision of a full-throated disco-funk slammer ("Jam, Jam, Jam") before whipping off his shirt and dancing towards peak-time disco release via the spiraling madness of "I Will Get You Some Help". Those seeking loopy, piano-driven peak-time insanity should head for the bluesy brilliance of "Going For Another One", while "Just A Matter of Time" is an epic, everything-but-the-kitchen-sink slab of synth-laden AOR disco. Fittingly, he finishes with a bustling, tooled-up take on Evelyn "Champagne" King classic "Shame".

Review: Nope, this ain't the return of mulleted 80s duo Black Lace, it's the latest comp from Dynamicron's Latino-centric nu-disco label Los Grandes. Once again they've searched high and low to gather the hottest re-edits. Highlights this time include Brevil's sultry sweaty "Sexy", Vinyladdicted's shocking percussion-led rework of 'cough', Jimmy Nail's "Ain't No Doubt", PCJ's baddass 70s disco rock freakout "I Like The Sound", DJ Butcher's faithful take on Mister Flaggio's Italo disco masterpiece "Take A Chance", and Craxi Disco's seductive and proggy synth-disco epic "Jerusalem".

All are retweaked big pop hits, highlights of which being reworkings of boozy party anthems such as Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting", Duran Duran's "Notorious", Tom Jones' "Its Not Unusual" and (a particularly good electro-house reworking of) ELO's "Last Train To London".

Review: Bologna based legend Luca Trevisi aka LTJ Xperience has been spinning around Italy since the '80s so we were convinced he knew his stuff already, but this album is truly testament to his years and knowledge. He re-edits a bunch of classic soul jams spanning, funk soul, disco and rare groove on a collection which is pure fire and a worthy addition to any DJs arsenal. The smooth groove of "Slow Fire" is the kind of thing Psychemagik could have got to first, while "You Will Know" and "Black Machine" sample some of the very best in the form of Gypsy Kings and Prince, respectively. There's a lot to get through, but it's all killer, no filler!

Review: German house hero Butch is back on the scene and doing what he does best: cleverly sampled disco house tracks reminiscent of his 2010 breakthrough hit "No Worries" on Cecille. "Dope" is filtered funky house at its finest, reminiscent of late noughties anthems by Brian Tappert and Eddie Amador, while "Praise The Lord" samples James Brown and Todd Terry at the same time on this cheeky, funked up hoedown that ticks all the right boxes. This will have just as many girls as boys on the dancefloor. It's imperative!

Review: All re-edit labels have their own twist on things and Handshakes' thing is classic funk. After messing around with singles for a while, they've bitten the bullet and delivered a long player. It's been worth the wait too as there's a whopping 19 tracks to choose from featuring a mix of names both familiar and new. Highlights include the touchy-feely throb of "Groove On (IMFROMULL edit)", the grey leather slip on electro-funk of "You Wanna Get Up (Dr Packer Funkout)" and the raw, slap-bass heaven of Jam Master's "Party Lights".
