Bushwacka! - "Lectrobee" (Electro mix) - (5:33) 86 BPM
Review: John Digweed presents Futuro: a 25-track compilation celebrating 25 years of his hugely influential Bedrock label (established in 1999). Taking in the likes of Bushwacka with tracks like "Lectrobee" to the "Bleu Cobalt" studio collaboration between Digweed, Nick Muir, and Captain Mustache - other notables here include label legends and associates like Marco Bailey, David Morales and Rodriguez Jr. Replete with uplifting melodies, pulsating rhythms and progressive hose suggestions, there's extra slices of techno from Raxon, next to select cuts by Sasha Carassi, Lost Desert, and Weska all the more. Bedrock's best.

Weaper's Choice - "Leaving You" (V's edit) - (5:30) 88 BPM
Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

Mangala - (5:59) 83 BPM
Review: Following much loved releases on Riot, Tropical Disco and Italy's Full Time Production, Musta delivers us four new irresistible workouts that blend disco sensibilities and a sharp dancefloor aesthetic with an original dose of African rhythms. 'Bamenda' starts proceedings with a laid back, wonderfully wonky vibe, before 'Mangala' ups the ante subtly, being more lively but also lighter and nimbler. 'Tropicalissimo' is the one for the percussion heads, its tumbling timbales paving the way for a bleepy acid house head nodder blessed with Cuban-style vocals and carnival sonics. 'Ibaye' completes the package, surfing a hefty groove but seasoning its beats with the most exotic trimmings. All four are standouts in their own way and the kind of weapons a DJ will be simply itching to drop. A Musta-have release, you might even say.

Fake Five (lego re-edit) - (5:40) 88 BPM
Review: If funk and jazz are your thing, don't sleep on this latest missive from Italy's Lego Edit stable, which packs six reworks of vintage cuts both highly familiar and somewhat less so, We start out with the instantly recognisable groove of Kool & The Gang's 'Jungle Boogie', now reinvented as 'Jazz-Ungle', while elsewhere you'll find fresh takes on the Dave Brubeck Quartet's jazz classic 'Take Five' (1959) and Gil Scott-Heron & Brian Jackson's 'It's Your World' (1976). The sources for the other three will have to go sadly unindentified (though those piano licks on 'Jazzy Touch' are annoyingly familiar) but rest assured, this is classy stuff all round.

DJ Trenchcoat - "Say It" - (6:57) 135 BPM
Tiga & Gesloten Cirkel - "Easy" (Gesloten Cirkel remix) - (7:58) 135 BPM
Proxy, Dagga & Manao - "Raven" (Dagga & Manao remix) - (4:12) 136 BPM
Review: Twenty-five years is a long time in any field. In the fast-moving world of electronic music, it's practically an eternity. That Turbo has managed not just to last that long but also to remain fresh says a lot about Tiga's immaculate A&Ring. On Turbo 25, we see the form this takes. There's "You So Pretty", his cheeky electro collaboration with long-time Turbo collaborator Jori Hulkkonen. Audion and Seth Troxler also celebrate the landmark anniversary with the searing techno of "Hate", while The Hacker goes down the industrial route with the slamming "Forcefield". Tiga continues to flirt with pop with the Soulwax edit of "Woke". However, the fact that he has commissioned Gesloten Cirkel of Murder Capital fame to rework "Easy" means he remains as connected as ever with techno and electro's underground. Here's to the next quarter century.

Autumn EP
9
Introfall (Autumn) - (1:23) 80 BPM
Review: Scruscru's Scruniversal take a left turn into jazzier pastures than normal with this four-track EP from I Gemin, AKA Russian producer Mike Popov. The EP opens with the languid, cinematic instrumental 'Introfall (Autumn)', before moving into out-and-out jazz territory with the flute-laden 'Ninjazz Bit'. Funk and soul flavas then inform 'Dry My Tears' with its wukka-wukking geetars and (presumably sampled) gospel-like vocal, before '2Gether We Funk' plays us out in more "traditional" funk mode, with brass fanfares galore and a distinct car chase feel. Musically speaking 'Ninjazz Bit' is arguably the most impressive, polished piece here but it's '2Gether We Funk' that'll get those booties shakin'!

Lucky Charm
10
Film 4 - (5:50) 80 BPM
Review: Roman Flugel has made many terrific records over the last three decades, though we can't think of many that are quite as joyful and rushing as 'Lucky Charm', a surging piano house number full of pots-and-pans percussion, layered keyboard solos, hands-in-the-air riffs, classic house bass and unfussy drum machine beats. His accompanying dub mix successfully strips the track back while adding some restless, relentless cowbell lines (never a bad thing), while Perc's short-and-sweet revision re-imagines the track as a bouncy, tribal house number. Of the bonus cuts on offer, we're particularly enjoying the wayward house/techno fusion of 'Luv Amour' and the exotic downtempo shuffle of 'Film 4'.

Marle Moor - "Pretty Day" - (2:59) 137 BPM
Sad Lovers & Giants - "Things We Never Did" - (4:07) 136 BPM
Review: Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX marks the second electrifying compilation from Eskimo Recordings, masterfully curated by Berlin-based musician and DJ Luca Venezia, aka Curses. Spanning some 50 tracks - this extensive collection weaves a captivating narrative connecting the dots between industrial pioneers like Throbbing Gristle, EBM legends Nitzer Ebb, and the post-punk experimentation of Malcolm McLaren or Big Audio Dynamite, all the while introducing us to contemporary talents such as Boy Harsher, Nuovo Testamento, and Years of Denial. With direct inspirations coming from personal voyages through Luca Venezia's record collection during lockdown - DEUX transports us through a hazy, pulsating clubland from yesteryear where a sonic journey pulls together other talent like The KVB, Jennifer Touch, Kris Baha and a selections of Curses own remixes and revamps.

Various
Mary Greer Mudiku - "I Face East" - (7:31) 81 BPM
Miho Nobuzane - "Ponteio" - (6:50) 138 BPM
Review: In an industry where the term 'veteran' is bandied about far too freely, Colin Curtis is the real deal! His DJing career goes all the way back to legendary Northern Soul club The Golden Torch in the late 60s. In the 70s, he was a resident at Blackpool Mecca alongside Ian Levine, where he became one of the first DJs to introduce the more modern sound of jazz-funk to the scene. By the mid-80s he'd become an early UK champion of house, too, but these days it's on the jazz-dance scene that he's most revered - and here he serves up a 26-track connoisseur's collection that shows why. Ranging from straight-up jazz and soul to soulful house and leaning heavily towards the Afro- and Latin-flavoured, some of these cuts are recent offerings, some date back as far as the 70s, but on jazz-dance floors, all will go down a treat.

Katakana Edits Vol 141
13
One On One - (4:59) 137 BPM
Review: Has any re-edit imprint ever released more music than Katakana Edits? GAMM aside, we can't think of any. This EP of reworks from DJ Laurel is, astonishingly, the label's 141st in total. Predictably, the release gets off to a cheery and sun-splashed start via the lolloping, musically detailed 105 BPM disco excellence of 'Can't Fight Your Love', before DJ Laurel subtly ups the tempo on the swirling, string-laden, dewy-eyed disco-soul of 'Perfect Play'. Those seeking more up-tempo, peak-time-ready thrills should head straight for the gloriously grandiose disco-era Marvin Gaye style brilliance of 'One on One'.

Review: In keeping with the approach of its predecessors, the fourth annual Boogie Angst compilation brings together "cool cuts" from the past year and a smattering of exclusives and previously unreleased gems. As you'd expect from a label helmed by Kraak & Smaak, it's a genuinely joyous and celebratory affair, packed to the rafters with party-starting workouts. For proof, check the revivalist disco-boogie cheeriness of Titeknots' 'Feels Good 2 Me', the future soul shuffle of 'Treat U Good' by Moods, Noah Slee, Lyriya & Meron, the summery electrofunk sunshine that is Art of Tones' kaleidoscopic rework of LUXXURY's 'Just Like It Was Before', the Rhodes-laden warmth of Kraak & Smaak's nostalgic 'All I Need' and the spiritually-enriching Latin deep house shuffle of Osunlade's Yoruba Soul rework of his Casbah 73 collaboration, 'Let's Invade The Amazon'.

Streamer - "The Fastest Gumbo" (feat Young MC) - (3:26) 85 BPM
Review: Katakana Edits first compilation, 2017's "Crate Diggin", was an epic collection of high-grade re-edits, mash-ups and reworks packed to the rafters with tried-and-tested dancefloor treats. This belated follow-up is even more epic, with the popular label squeezing in no less than 50 tracks that variously touch on riotous disco-funk, dub disco, new wave, disco-rock, deep funk, Afro-boogie, swamp funk, Latin beats, boogie, pitched-down chuggers, boogaloo, hip-hop and everything in between. You'd expect that standard to be high - it is a "best of" collection after all - and it is. If you need an instant armoury of scintillating club cuts, look no further.

Saucy Lady & U-KEY - "What You Won't Do For Love" - (4:04) 87 BPM
Review: Midnight Riot do their bit to address the much-discussed gender imbalance in dance music with a 25-track collection featuring an almost entirely female line-up (though a few possessors of Y-chromosomes do sneak in as collaborators). With big names like Kathy Brown, DJ Paulette, Rowetta, Caron Wheeler, Sulene Fleming and Natasha Kitty Katt nestling up alongside a host of more up-and-coming artists, the quality standard is high throughout, with the musical emphasis largely on good-time, Saturday night house and disco vibes, though there a few more gently paced moments - notably in the form of covers of Bobby Caldwell's 'What You Won't Do For Love' and Sade's 'Sweetest Taboo' - while Paulette & Massey serve up a pleasing dose of acid on 'Sheroes'.

Don't Stop EP
17
Don't Stop (Reprise) - (2:07) 81 BPM
Review: More from Faze Action member Robin Lee's offshoot Andromeda Orchestra project, whose throbbing and forthright releases have previously joined the dots between revivalist disco and the synthesizer-driven world of Italo-disco. In its original form (track three), "Don't Stop" is an authentically produced riff on the K.I.D track of the same name rich in swooping, razor-sharp strings, Clavinet-happy disco grooves and glassy-eyed female vocals. It comes accompanied by a stellar peak-time remix from Lee's old pal Ray Mang - all layered drum fills, swirling noises and jangling piano riffs - and a spacey, beat-free ambient "Reprise". Bonus cut "Kano Line Dance", a funky mid-tempo shuffler that joins the dots between boogie, jazz-funk and P-funk, is also rather tasty.

Review: Dixon & Ame's esteemed Innervisons imprint returns with its annual round up of the very best in advanced house and emotive techno on the 15th edition in its Secret Weapons series. They have once again done a fine job of curation, with all artists representing its distinct sonic aesthetic, with highlights coming from: Chloe Caillet on the deep and introspective electro cut "Moonwalk", rising Israeli Tal Fussmann really nails the label's futuristic vibe on the suspenseful "Persona" and esteemed Dutch duo Glowal give you another taste of their intelligent indie-dance sound on "Figures". Elsewhere, the ever impressive Floyd Lavine takes a more experimental path on his hi-tech cut "Blackalicious" (feat Wayne Snow) and Spanish producer EdOne delivers the mandatory serving of dancefloor drama on the sublime "Mjolnar".

I Betcha! - (6:35) 88 BPM
Whispers - (6:26) 80 BPM
Review: Adelaide-based Italian Dave Mathmos is a prolific re-editor, as a quick glance at his website will quickly prove. He's featured on Too Slow To Disco's edits series before, back in 2019, though this EP is a far more expansive and action-packed affair. There's plenty to savour across the seven tracks on show, with our picks of a very strong bunch including the rubbery, slap bass-propelled AOR disco excellence of 'Encore Une Histoire D'Amour' (a rework of a French language cover of a familiar favourite), the squelchy, Latin-tinged 80s soul gorgeousness of 'Late at Night', a genuine future classic (the mid-80s power synth-pop-goes-electro-disco brilliance of 'My Baby Don't Care', which edits up an unlikely cover of the Beatles) and the reggae infused, low tempo disco-chug of 'Whispers'.

Ilya Santana - "After Dark" - (2:50) 80 BPM
Review: Four tracks of heavily electronic disco make up this latest V/A collection from Rakyo's Rare Wiri stable. Ilya Santana gets the ball rolling with the ominous, cinematic 'After Dark', before Kay-chi & Keymon drag us onto the early 80s dancefloor with 'Patches Of Light' feat Kally Voo. The label boss himself then steps up with 'Relax Your Body', which looks to styles like cosmic disco, EBM and Belgian new beat for inspiration, before the EP's completed by MR Gee's 'Under The Moonlight', which opens with a mood-setting manic cackle then breaks out into something of a moody, midtempo synth epic.

P-Sol - "Walter" - (5:16) 89 BPM
Review: Having recently notched up a sixth year in business, Fingerman's Hot Digits imprint is in a celebratory mood - hence this all-action round-up of recent delights and unheard treats from the disco-loving label. Encompassing no less than 30 tunes, the collection giddily skips between warming beatdown disco (P-Sol's "Walter"), Mark E style slo-mo loop jams (Vigi's "I'll Be There") and glassy-eyed Balearic nu-disco (Picklejam's "Untitled Love"), before raising its hands skywards as the peak-time party-starters begin to appear thick and fast. Highights in this category include the vibrant jazz-house flex of Dexter Jones' "Swing Thing", the bustling boogie re-edit business of Monsieur Von Pratt's "Let's Dance" and the hearty disco-funk heaviness of Chewy Rubs' "Funky Bee Bop".

Review: To kick-start a fourth year of disco-fuelled madness, Hot Digits chief Fingerman has put together this sizeable compilation of previously unheard exclusives. As you'd expect, there's far more killers than fillers to be found amongst the 28-track deep selection or re-edits and original productions. Highlights include the clarinet-laden electrofunk-meets-disco bounce of Frank Virgilio's "It's Your Boogie Baby", the disco-goes-hip-hop flex of Tony Disco's delicious "Rolling Paper", the sparkling nu-disco goodness of "When It Comes To Funk" by Stephen Richards, the driving disco-house bump of Ash Reynolds' "Cold Girl" and the fuzzy electrofunk wobble of Don Dayglow's "Many Things". Throw in fine contributions from Chewy Rubs, Le Visiteur, norse man Jarle Brathen and, of course, Fingerman, and you have a must-buy collection of cuts.

Review: In a musical landscape that's drowning under a sea of often quite lazy re-edits, it's refreshing to find a producer who's made the effort to pay musical homage in slightly more inventive fashion. Step up Beatconductor, who here serves up another motley collection of covers, mash-ups, sample-based tributes and yes, the occasional straight-up re-edit that draws on sources as varied as Teena Marie ('Chemical Flashbacks' bites the vocal from 1980's 'Square Biz'), the Human League ('Human Emotions' marries a Mariah vocal to the 'Don't You Want Me?' riff), Fleetwood Mac ('Dreams (Again)', obviously), The Beatles ('Fixxin A Hole'/'I Can Fixx A Hole'), Hall & Oates (ditto), The Who ('Who R U') and Gladys Knight & The Pips ('Goodbye' reworks 1973's 'Neither One Of Us').

Mr Absolutt - "Super Sativa" - (5:41) 89 BPM
Review: There's a reason that Midnight Riot's eponymous compilations frequently charge to the top of the Juno Download charts. Put simply, they never disappoint. This ninth installment sticks to the now tried-and-tested formula - house-friendly re-edits and originals from across the disco, boogie, soul and funk spectrum - but predictably hits the spot throughout. As usual, there's a bonus mix - this time put together by globe-trotting scalpel jockey Rayko - and tracks come from both label regulars ('80s Child, Ziggy Phunk, Chewy Funk) and an impressive array of new or unheralded talents. It's in the latter category that you'll find some of the most impressive fare - see Phil Jaimes deliciously Balearic "Nowhere To Hide" and Cosmocomics' kaleidoscopic synth-funk jam "Mary Jane" - though the standard remains pleasingly high throughout.

Review: French veteran Art of Tones AKA Llorca teams up with Parisian jazz-funk outfit Chatobaron, and 'Flight Of The Comet' is a very apt EP cos the results are out of this world! 'Ban The Disco' (and its accompanying Drum Tool remix) and 'La Chatte Au Baron' operate at the jazzier, classier end of the disco spectrum, while the title cut with its stop-start rhythm and the lounge-tinged 'Pendant Ce Temps-La A Vera Cruz' probably sit more comfortably under the jazz-funk umbrella, but what all five tracks share is a musicality and sophistication that puts most of the week's other releases to shame. Very fine fare indeed.
