Review: Although Alkalino has re-edited all sorts of music over the years, disco, boogie and Italo-disco tracks have always been his bread and butter. He's taken a different path on his latest release, offering up 'Transgenre Edits' that touch on a wide variety of sounds and styles. There's much to admire throughout, from the 105 BPM conscious soul-goes-dancing headiness of 'Songs That I See' and the weirdo disco-rock-goes-Italo-disco throb of 'Angry Eyes' (a take on a legendary 1979 by Skatt Bros) to the effervescent jazziness of 'Sad Sax' (an edit of the track sampled by Mr Scruff on 'Get a Move On'), the muscular, mind-mangling synth-disco throb of 'Angel Dust' and the bouncy Tango-disco rush of 'Funana'.

Review: Number three in a series whose title was self-explanatory to start with, so you should have a pretty good idea what's going on here as re-editor par excellence Alkalino makes free with 11 more nuggets from days of yore. Getting the treatment this time are Prince's '1999', Michael Jackson's 'Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough', Dire Straits' 'So Far Away', Rocksteady Crew's 'Hey You', Journey's 'Don't Stop Believing', King's 'Love And Pride', Visage's 'Move Up', The Smiths' 'Bigmouth Strikes Again', The Stranglers' 'Always The Sun' and a couple of unidentified cuts (one of which sounds like it might be The Human League while the other has a Front 242/Meat Beat Manifesto-like feel)... some surprising sources there for sure, but they're all handled with Alkalino's trademark aplomb so listen with open ears!

Review: This is the fourth volume in the series, so you should have the idea by now: Audaz boss Alkalino revisits his youth by taking on pop hits (mostly) from the late 70s and 80s, often reworking the most unlikely source material into dancefloor gold. This time out, though, he's cast his net a little wider, with sources including Jimmy Soul's 1963 calypso hit 'If You Wanna Be Happy', The Chordettes' 'Mr Sandman' from 1954 (an unexpected standout), Sixto Rodiquez's 'Sugar Man' from 1970 and Johnny Cash's 'I Walk The Line' from 1956, as well as the more par-for-the-course likes of The Clash's 'Guns Of Brixton', Stan Ridgway's 'Camouflage', M's 'Pop Muzik' and Paul Hardcastle's '19'.

Review: With 17 tracks on offer there's no room here to list the source material for every track on this latest re-edits selection from the ever-busy Alkalino, even if we could identify them all - which we can't, because it's fair to say he's dug really deep here to find some gems. No guilty 80s pop pleasures here, just obscure disco, Italo and boogie nuggets expertly repolished to suit modern dancefloors, the arguable exception to that rule being an excellent take on the Detroit Emeralds' 1972 soul/funk classic "Baby Let You Take Me (In My Arms)", here reinvented as "Let Me Kiss You". Other highlights include the lazy, sensual "Feel The Music" and the dreamy jazz-fusion of "Ghetto Blues".

Review: Audaz boss Alkalino has never been shy of wearing his pop-loving heart on his sleeve, and this latest collection of re-edits merely underlines the point, as he serves up fresh reworks of (mostly) 80s gems. The edits themselves range from 'token' to 'truly radical' and you'll have your own faves for sure, but sources include The Cure ('Let's Go To Bed'), New Order ('Temptation'), Visage ('Fade To Grey'), Dead Or Alive ('You Spin Me Round'), Nik Kershaw ('I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me'), Kate Bush ('Them Heavy People'), Talking Heads ('Seen And Not Seen'), Alphaville ('Big In Japan'), Jona Lewie ('You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties') and, rewinding back into the 70s as the album draws to a close, David Bowie ('Starman').

Review: Portuguese producer Alkalino has been relatively quiet of late, at least by his own prolific standards, so it's hardly a surprise to find that his return to action is an album-length collection of tried-and-tested re-edits with a firm focus on the dancefloor. He begins with the bass-heavy Afro-disco bounce of 'Superstition', before variously serving up post-punk disco throb-jobs ('Warp'), guitar-laden disco-rock ('5 Letters'), percussion-laden global disco excess ('Kingston Town'), tooled-up Zimbabwean excellence ('Lion of Zimbabwe'), what sounds like a synth-laden William Onyeabor revision ('Be My Angel'), filter-heavy Afro house-not-house ('Just Begun') and colourful highlife reworks ('Oh Deus').

There's plenty of guaranteed floor-filling material on show throughout, including a slightly pitched-down, Clavinet-sporting rework of New Order's most celebrated dancefloor anthem ('Tell Me How Do I Feel'), a trippy and druggy take on an old KLF favourite ('Mu Mu'), a sub-heavy excursion that blends bits of various classic cuts ('I Know You Wanna Do It'), a low-slung deep house treat ('Ruff N Stuff') and a dark, deliciously bass-heavy peak-time workout ('Jack Area').

Review: Lino Rodrigues, better known as re-editor extraordinaire Alkalino, takes us on another trip down Memory Lane to the 1980s. Coming under the scalpel for a spot of cosmetic surgery this time out are (in order) Prince's 'Gett Off', Laura Branigan's 'Self Control', Oran 'Juice' Jones's 'The Rain', Madonna's 'Everybody', Marillion's 'Kayleigh', AR Kane's 'A Love From Outer Space', Prefab Sprout's 'When Love Breaks Down' and Kajagoogoo's 'Too Shy'. It's an eclectic selection for sure, and which tracks hit hardest for you will probably depend on how you feel about the originals, but give all of 'em a whirl because some of the reworks are quite radical in approach. And yes, we known 'Gett Off' is from 1991 but let's not get pedantic, eh?

Instead the Audaz boss serves up another typically classy bunch of reworkings, drawing on sources that include Change ft Jocelyn Brown's 'Angel In My Pocket' ('I Remember All So Clearly'), Lenny Williams' 'Midnight Girl' ('The Music Plays And Plays'), Central Line's 'Walking Into Sunshine' ('I Got To Get Away') and Talking Heads' 'Seen And Not Seen' ('A Larger Forehead'), to name but a few.

Review: A cool 13-track edits collection here from Audaz boss Alkalino. Where the 'Lolita Edits' series was never afraid to reach for a much-loved pop nugget, the 'Sure Shot' series seems to dig a little deeper and favour instrumental cuts, and as such, many sources will have to remain a mystery. Those we could identify, though, include Baccara's 'Yes Sir I Can Boogie', Sylvester's 'Over And Over', Jon English's 'Hollywood Seven' and, last but by no means least, The Escorts' 'Make Me Over' from 1981, which is reworked here into a surefire tension-builder as Alkalino teases out the intro and adds some highly distinctive cat-like wails.

Review: Alkalino's dug pretty deep for this latest re-edits EP, with our disco detectives only able to identify the source of two of the four cuts. The two we can't place are 'Mad Words', a lightly tropically-infused disco shimmy with an androgynous spoken, Euro-sounding vocal and "whoo-oo-ooh" backing vox, and 'Solitude', an instrumental comprised of fluttering guitars, organs and some killer "pyoww!" stabs. Elsewhere, 'It's Not In Your Eyes' reworks the cod reggae of Boz Scaggs' 'Love Me Tomorrow' (1976) into a midtempo, piano-led disco groove while Change's Jocelyn Brown-starring 'It's A Girl's Affair' (1980) gets reworked as 'People Be Aware".

Review: Given the titular nod to the era of breakdancing, garish tracksuits and high-top fades, it should come as no surprise that there's a distinctly late 70s/early 80s feel to this new collection of reworks from Audaz boss Alkalino. Opener 'If You Want To' revisits Bileo's 'You Can Win' from 1979, before we skip forward a decade as Womack & Womack's 'MFB' from 1988 becomes 'I Lost My Love'. We then get Alkalino's take on Tommy Tate's 'For The Dollar Bill' from 1981, now retitled 'People Will Do Anything', before it's back to the 70s for 'Floating', a reworking of The Floaters' stone-cold 1977 classic 'Float On'.

Review: Audaz boss Alkalino brings us another selection of re-edits whose source material will sadly have to go unidentified. 'Hey Baby' is a fairly mellow, understated cut sitting somewere round the funk/soul/boogie interchange, while 'Something About You' packs naggingly familiar Parliament-style synths and 'woah-oh-oh' vocal choruses, and is more overtly floor-oriented. The standout for this reviewer, though, is 'Ain't Got No Money' a lively, rolling, uptempo soul cut with lyrics - "Ain't got no money, just holdin' on" - that will strike a chord for many us right now.

Now here comes a five-track 'best of' selection credited to label boss Alkalino, who presumably is finally owning up! Reworking obscure dancefloor cuts from AKB, Detroit Emeralds (okay, that one's not so obscure), Radiance, Catherine Miller and Johnny Taylor, the EP will serve as a useful introduction to the series for anyone who's yet to become familiar, even if long-term fans will own all these tracks already.

Review: Portuguese producer Alkalino has enhanced his reputation of late thanks to a series of well-regarded original productions. Having previously concentrated on edits, he now seems fully focused on making his own music. "Hot Like The Sun" is typical of his recent efforts, mixing European deep house sounds with elements inspired by "Iberican" tribal and classic US house. The package also includes a veritable sack full of reworks, of which Panaroma Groove Express's classic deep house tweak most impresses. That said, the chiming synth-marimba vibe and tactile drums of the Tonto Dub runs it close.

Review: A very distinctive-sounding EP here from Berlin-based Portuguese producer Lino Rodrigues Polonio, better known as Alkalino, coming on his own Audaz label. 'Rastafari' is a midtempo deep house groove, long on sweeping pads and topped with a spoken Rastaman vocal, with the overall effect recalling the work of the mighty Mutabaruka. 'Haile Selassie' veers more towards leftfield electronica with its slo-mo drums and synth bleeps, and sports just a looped female "Selassie-I!" by way of a vocal. It's really the former that will be of most interest to house buyers, though 'Haile Selassie' could still find its way into longer, more adventurous sets.

Review: Portugese edit hitman Alkalino drops two new cuts on his home label Audaz, and it seems he's in the mood for some deep and mystical house servings this time around. "Dancing With Somebody" is a true groover, a chunky dance arrangement surrounded by loopy R&B vocals, while "Dance To The House" is distinctly old-school in flavour, a mid-90's joint that has been reworked and twisted into a more contemporary disguise.

Review: Given that this is Audaz's 50th release (good going, given that the imprint was only launched in 2011), it seems fitting that it comes from label boss Lino Rodriguez, AKA Alkalino. The Munich-based producer has predictably gone in hard, delivering a quartet of original tracks aimed squarely at late night dancefloors. Opener "Side It Up" seemingly surges from the speakers, with flittering tech-house elements and murky vocal samples riding a wonky, bass-heavy groove. "Drumberg" sees him charge off into tech-acid territory with impressive results, while "Sparkling" sounds like vintage Orbital fused with 21st century German tech-house. Finally, he reaches for the mutant bass, horror textures and acid lines on closer "Minga", arguably the EP's standout moment.

Alkalino - "Bowl" - (6:00) 120 BPM Hot
David Mariscal - "Luz" - (6:14) 123 BPM
Review: In recent times, Alkalino's Audaz imprint has focused more on the Munich-based producer's fine disco and boogie re-edits. Here, it switches back to original production, offering up a track each from boss man Alkalino and pal David Marsical. The latter steals the show with "Luz", a rolling dose of soft-touch deep house hypnotism blessed with some rather lovely looped marimba melodies. It features some vintage tech-house touches, too, resulting in an intriguing, early 2000s feel. Alkalino's "Bowl" is a slightly bolder affair, with woozy pitched-down vocals riding a dubby deep house groove reminiscent of classic West Coast productions by the likes of Onionz, Hipp-E and Halo.

Here he treats us to another deep cut, the sparse, percussive thumper "Spooky", which sees tough beats treated with eerie sound effects and narrated in a nonsensical US vocal drawl. On the digital flipside Enzo Leep delivers more house, but more in the melodic minimal vein - all chiming arpeggios and broken beats in the style of Kolumbo.

Review: Maybe it was his move to Munich that inspired his conversion to house, but whatever it was, Portuguese disco edit don Alkalino's original productions have got a lot more mechanical indeed. This is not a bad thing, it just means we get less disco for now. This latest two-tracker boasts a pair of tracks that presents deep and sparse robotic house grinder "Bang The Box" and the frankly superior spooky rhythmic riser, "Dementia".

Alkalino - "Corrente Espacial" - (7:36) 120 BPM Hot
Plagia - "Can't Stop This Feeling" - (8:38) 120 BPM
Played by: Alkalino
Review: Munich-based Portuguese producer Alkalino has previously impressed with a swathe of disco, boogie and Balearic edits, and a handful of original house productions. It's the latter strand of his work that he revisits here, dropping a heavily electronic chunk of fizzing deep house in the shape of "Movimento". It gently builds in an impressive manner, with the gradual introduction of ever-more melodious elements (swirling chords, crystalline strings etc) as the track progresses. Finnish producer Plagia handles the virtual flipside, delving deeper into shiny, Balearic-inspired tech-house territory with the bluesy "Can't Stop This Feeling". In addition to some hazy melodies, it also features some high quality percussive builds.

Review: More original work here from Portuguese disco don Alkalino. There are only two tracks included this time but seeing as they're both seven to eight minutes each we'll forgive him. He's in a moodier mood too this time too, with "Thebe" being a slice of acid-tinged electroclash-inspired disco with a killer psychedelic middle eight. "Pluto" explores the realms of raw and loose house as heard through a proggy punk-funk prism.

Arno - "Lokalderby" (Alkalino remix) - (6:03) 125 BPM Hot
Deep Blast & Ricco Rizzo - "Lufthans" (Alkalino Bump remix) - (6:14) 123 BPM
Played by: Alkalino
Review: More from Munich-based Lino "Alkalino" Rodriguez, who, having recently showcased his re-editing and original production skills, delivers a pair of previously unheard remixes. There's a warped, bass-heavy, techno-tinged late night feel to Rodriguez's version of Arno's "Lokalderby", with the Portuguese producer wrapping rave-influenced stabs and late night electronics around a booming, after party-friendly groove. There's a similarly murky feel about Rodriguez's version of Deep Blast & Ricco Rizzo's "Lufthans", with detached electronics and bittersweet melodies riding a shuffling, early morning groove. Both tracks seem designed to be played loud in dark German basements, somewhere around 4am.

Portuguese Hustler (dub mix) - (6:52) 120 BPM
Review: Munich-dwelling Portuguese producer Alkalino likes to switch from original productions to deftly executed scalpel edits all the time. However, lately his fingers have been doing more of their surgical ballet on old disco tracks than flicking the faders on his own tunes. Well here's something to redress the balance - "Portuguese Hustler" is an almost seven minute long, slinky afternoon pool party jazzy house joint: all soft chords, chiming piano keys and smooth, sunny vibes.

Treat Me Right - (7:05) 118 BPM
Review: The words 'Chicago' and 'house' come to mind with this new Trax series by Audaz boss Alkalino. There's little trace of his disco influence here as he presents four tracks that could have been made in the windy city in about 1987. "Pull Me Through" begins the EP with some deep, touchy feely, soulful house goodness before the pounding snares and atonal electronics of sweaty basement anthem "Much love" arrive. Next we take a detour with the ABBA-sampling hiNRG jam "Rollercoaster 3000" before "Treat Me Right" wraps things up with some darkly sensual punky funk.

Review: Having spent the last couple of months offering up weekly compilations from mystery re-editor "Lolita", Audaz boss Alkalino has decided the time is right for him to return to the long-running imprint. The four tracks are all original productions, too, with the Portuguese producer fusing a few choice samples with tech-tinged house grooves, darkroom rhythms and evocative electronics. Our picks of the bunch are hypnotic closer "I Can Tell You", where opaque, echo-laden stabs rise above a locked-in groove, the warm and trippy goodness of "Straight On & On" and "Somewhere", a deliciously sleazy late night workout rich in bouncy beats, stabbing analogue bass and - more surprisingly - a classic vocal sample from the KLF's "Chill Out" album.

Review: Scene stalwart Alkalino continues to serve up new material at a furious rate. A matter of days has passed since the release of his muscular, house and Italo-disco flavoured "From Minga To The World" EP, and he's already back with another trio of original productions. There's plenty of variety, too. So while "My Disco Passion (Beats Tool)" offers a chunky, bass-heavy, percussive and filter-rich take on "French Touch" style disco-house, "People Have Stopped" is a fine chunk of deep house/nu-disco fusion rich in jammed-out electric piano riffs, breathy female vocal samples and squidgy, acid style electronic motifs. Then there's relaxed and groovy EP opener "Simple Tune", a Balearic nu-disco bubbler fit for eyes-closed moments and seaside afternoon DJ sets.

Review: Munich's finest via Portugal: Lino Rodrigues aka Alakalino is back again in his relentless pursuit to spread the gospel of deep house music. "Irrtum" is haunting, dusty and indeed deep house, which is carried mainly by nefariously dark horn sounds on this late night jam. "Ismena" by Antigona (not to be confused with Frenchman Antigone) provides a dark tech house journey track, with some sombre Ry Cooder style guitars over a tunnelling groove. This guy's got potential!

Review: Since delivering a set of solid re-edits for KAT in the summer, Alkalino has been on a mission to showcase his original house productions. This is his fifth and presumably final EP of the autumn and contains four reliable chunks of dancefloor goodness. We're rather enjoying the bustling and foreboding late night nu-disco synths and exotic electronic melodies of "Do You Wanna", as well as the organ-driven late night house throb of "Grow Effekt". That said, closer "Ballash", a saunter into the kind of hazy, dub-driven deep house that was once the hallmark of Miguel Migs' productions for NRK, is also rather good. "Glance", a swirling fusion of trippy electronics and elastic drums, completes a tasty package.
