Review: Like its predecessors, the third volume in Sound Exhibitions' "Africa Soul" series offers up a pleasingly listenable - and largely floor-friendly - mixture of fresh Afro-centric productions, re-edits, sneaky reworks and sample-heavy workouts. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the deep, disco-tinged Afro-house warmth of DJ Moy's "Afro-Dancing" and the bassline-driven Afro-boogie funkiness of TJ Edit's "Baby Camon", to the wonderfully woozy and sun-kissed heaviness of Vito Lalinga's undeniably summery - and hard to pigeonhole - "New York City" and the sludgy, off-beat jazz-funk/deep disco fusion of M.A.D.Y's "Tipical". As the old clich? goes, this is genuinely "all killer, no filler".

Review: The Italo-Franco producer Funk Reverse is back with "Mo' Funk" on his own Sound Exhibitions imprint. The three new cuts unveiled here include the sublime, almost Metro Area-esque, Fender Rhodes funk of the title track and the trippy break beat of "FunkyStar". Not forgetting the sugary icing of vocoder pop ditty "Clap Your Hands".

Review: With Italy's Sound Exhibitions giving us four funk flamers from French fella Funk Reverse, this is a truly continental offering. Despite the Euro origins though, these productions hark back to early 80s America and its streetwise electronic funk. The title track is a vintage Adidas-tapping groover with extra breaks, "Super Free" sees big beat underline a low down and dirty slap bass jam. "Go Funk" is all about block rockin' drum rolls and scratching, whilst "Hello" breaks the trend and opts for a contemporary, Latin-tinged groove.

Review: Sardinian nu-funk flag flyers, Sound Exhibitions, have rustled up a treat for this latest release - a collaboration between shady-but-great producers DJ Moy and Funk O'Ya. "Destinations Funk Part 4" tells it like it is, boasting the aforementioned sizzling bass twangin' joint effort "Locomotion Vocal" and a further two solo joints by Moy - the slow 'n' squelchy "Summer Funk" and the thankfully self explanatory "Dirty Funk" (imagine if it didn't live up to the promise of a title like that). Raw grooves at their best.

Review: DJ Moy and Funk O'Ya, working both separately and together, bring us five dispatches from the distant peripheries of the funk universe. 'Telefunk' (by Funk O'Ya) marries a low-slung bass groove to cut-up vox ? la early 80s hip-hop and strange, warbling Theremin-like sounds - think The Meters via Ninja Tune - and is followed by 'Dubdub', a collaborative effort and as fine a funk-dub meltdown as you'll hear all month. Moy's solo contributions 'Funky Express', 'Asia' and 'Metrofunk' then play us out on a more straight-up funk tip, but for imagination and originality it's the first two that really stand out.

Review: The Sound Exhibitions label is known for its Afro Dub Series and, as you'd imagine, that's all about African-inspired funk and disco. However, TJ Edit and Phil Disco offer something a little different with this latest compilation comprised of the duo's best tune from the summer of 2016. There's house, disco and much more in here, both from TJ Edit and Phil Disco; the former is primarily in a disco-house mood fuelled by samples and seductive slapbass, while the latter delves more into the boogie sound, and together this makes for a fine release, indeed.

Review: DJ Moy teams up with Funk Reverse to bring us this four-track EP of retro funk/disco grooves. There are two collaborative cuts: 'Inside Man', with its Loose Joints-esque bassline and cut-up vocal snips, and 'Warm Up', which operates at a much more laidback tempo and whose ethereal female vocal fragments lend it a dream-like feel. The other two tracks are Moy solo offerings: 'BassFunk', which does pretty much exactly what it says on the tin, and 'Getto Groove II', another hazy, lazy affair that's sprinkled with delicate keys and topped with some exemplary trumpet work.

Review: What would Sound Exhibitions do without chief resident DJ Moy? Here is again having already worked up a sweat on this week's Retro Funk Part 3. On Know You Like The Way We Get Down", he broadens the emphasis beyond the former's 1970s focus. "Funkoick" edits down a synthy, digital funk jam from about 1985 and turns it to a shimmering dubby workout, next "Feels Good" is all about crisp electro soul, whilst the title track takes a searing guitar riff, loops it over a thumping house kick and throws in some wayward sax to up its Balearic credentials.

Review: DJ Moy is a trooper. He is the guy in the Sound Exhibitions engine room working around the clock to keep the whole thing going. Don't believe us? Well this week alone he has two important releases on the label. The first of the aforementioned two releases is Retro Funk Part 3, a three-track mini-comp that concentrates on revitalising long lost gems from the er, retro funk genre. First up is "Funk Floor", a viciously funky 70s clavinet attack, followed swiftly by the tight and quirky elastic boogie of "Super Funk" and the warm and lazy grooves of closer "Hot".

Review: Dimitri Ferrari's Sound Exhibitions Records out of sunny Sardegna, Italy returns this week with a new release by a label staple - the truly elusive TJ Edit - who follows up February's fantastic Funk Evolutions # 16. On his new one here titled Summer Funk, you have a proper poolside affair that is definitely made for fun in the sun, as heard on the deep disco boogie-down antics of the title track. The sound remains equally as low slung on the bass-driven and hypnotic balearics of "Dub Day" and ending with the super sleazy slo-mo funk attack of "Tribal Soul".

Review: Daniel F Schneider has no social media presence and no production previous, as far as we can make out... but if he's going to keep serving up quality contemporary funk gems like the two instrumental cuts on show here, then let's hope we hear more from (and about) him in the near future. 'Love At First Sight' itself is a midtempo groove in a vaguely Balearic-ish style, centred around a fat squelchy bassline that's augmented by 80s-esque synth bleeps, while the accompanying 'Shifted', though not dissimilar in MO, nudges a little closer to nu-disco territory. A release built for sunny afternoons.

Review: No fewer than six mixes to choose from here, suggesting that 'In The Heaven' is likely to find its way into a wide variety of sets this summer. The Original is a shimmering Balearic/lounge cut with a blissed-out, driftaway kinda vibe. The Sauco Balearic Mix is druggier 'n' chuggier, the Lego Edit Reprice [sic] is a more funked-up ride, Da Funk Junkies take us into peaktime house territory with their self-explanatory Funk'N'Sax Mix, rising UK producer Col Lawton supplies a deeper house pass and finally the Its Felah Dub drops the tempo right back down for those more 'fragile' moments.

Review: 'The Nu Funk 5' is what it says on the box, and lo and behold, five nu-funk nuggets are what you'll find within! 'Energetic' tops some west coast bass squelch with analogue synth sweeps and an intricate riff that sounds like it's played on a plucked 'n' muted guitar, 'BGV' blends hints of disco, funk and jazz, and 'Indiana Jon' has an early 80s Euro feel and another fat squelching bassline, and wouldn't sound out of place soundtracking the leather club scene in a German arthouse movie. 'Disco Groove' is midpaced and guitar-flecked but otherwise self-explanatory, while completing the EP is 'Patapaci', which is underpinned by live-sounding bass and topped with airy piano chords.

Review: Two cuts here from mysterious London-based producer Break N Chord, coming on his regular home of Sound Exhibitions, that manage to follow an almost identical MO yet still end up sounding quite different. After a spacey, slow-building intro (definite set-opening potential there!), 'Magic Box' settles down into a jaunty nu-funk groove comprising a hefty walking bassline, warbling Hammonds, hand percussion, drawn-out brass stabs and, most notably, a lead line played on the flute. 'Dusty Flute' is comprised of the same elements, but where 'Magic Box' is lively, upbeat and summery, 'Dusty Flute' has an altogether sleazier sound and feel.

Review: There's a steady flow of quality grooves coming out of the Sound Exhibitions stable right now, with this three-tracker from Italy's Vito Lalinga being but one case in point. High-calibre contemporary funk is the general order of the day, with 'Your Love' being a rumbustious affair laden with brass, soaring sax and diva-esque "something about your love" vox, while 'Route 66' is a slower-moving jam with super-sleazy guitars, wailing harmonica and (by way of contrast) positively bright and summery keys. Completing the EP is 'No Baby', a classy slice of disco-funk with a gorgeous, reverb-heavy female vocal.
