Baddy On The Floor
Baddy On The Floor - (3:42) 124 BPM
Review: Jamie xx and Honey Dijon team up for a floor-filling heater on "Baddy On The Floor," coming hot on the heels of a string of Jamie xx releases over the past few years, including "idontknow," "Let's Do It Again," and most recently, "It's So Good" in January. The track is a disco house fusion, pulsing with a classic energy. Jamie xx expertly weaves a sample of Keni Burke's "Let Somebody Love You" into the production, creating a sense of nostalgic familiarity. Honey Dijon adds their signature touch, infusing the polished sound with a hint of underground club magic. 2024 summer banger!

Spring Jazz Session
Spring Jazz Session - (5:26) 119 BPM
Review: A single-tracker here from Russian DJ/producer Anton Bogomolov, better known as Scruscru, coming as ever on his own Scruniversal label. A title like 'Spring Jazz Session' is always gonna be fairly evocative, so you might think you have a pretty good idea what to expect here already... and you'd be pretty much right. Opening with tinkling keys over gentle percussion before introducing a walking bassline and, eventually, an understated 4/4 kick, this mellow, summery groove with its lead flute line is definitely one for afternoon and poolside sessions rather than Saturday night dancefloor abandon - but served on a good system at the right time, it'll sound just heavenly.

Red Alert
Red Alert (original mix) - (6:06) 126 BPM Hot
Red Alert (ABSOLUTE.'s High Alert remix) - (5:03) 125 BPM
Review: Belfast-born producer Rory Hamilton, known as Hammer, showcases his adeptness in the underground sound with his latest offering, Red Alert. With a pedigree co-helming Feel My Bicep and releases on Optimo and Shall Not Fade, Hammer's disco sound travels globally. "Red Alert" goes large with its superbly chugging rhythm, featuring a sleazy low end and cosmic arpeggios, grounded by a taught bassline. Its subtly euphoric atmosphere, Italo chord progressions, and retro sound designs inject some vibrant colour into the mix. Shackling up for the single is ABSOLUTE., a luminary of the London dance scene also, who delivers a raw and percussive remix that harkens back to early Chicago house, adorned with rave-ready stabs and energetic drums.

Right Place / Need You (Unclepasha Remixes)
Right Place (Unclepasha remix) - (5:32) 117 BPM
Need You (Unclepasha remix) - (5:57) 118 BPM Hot
Review: Two recent cuts from Russian disco don Alexander Chebankov, better known as Sunner Soul, get handed over to fellow St Petersburg native Unclepasha - whose musical CV dates back to the early 00s - for the remix treatment. His take on 'Right Place', which first appeared on last month's 'Something Good' EP, tones down the boogie and jazz-funk influences of the original and ends up deeper and smoother as a result. Conversely, he's kept the boogie stylings of 'Need You' (taken from February's 'Da Funk' EP) intact and arguably even emphasised them, in a dubbed-out remix that gets distinctly Levan/Peech Boys-esque in places.

Falling EP
Falling - (5:29) 123 BPM
Move - (5:44) 124 BPM Hot
Review: This Falling EP, a collaboration between Adana Twins and Upercent on TAU, epitomises the seamless synergy between these seasoned artists, delivering a strong statement within the melodic techno domain. Featuring tracks "Falling" and "Move," the EP blends emotive vocals, pulsating basslines, and a refined mix of electronic elements that err toward the TAU sound. Adana Twins' dynamic range and Upercent's avant-garde soundscapes converge here at large, showcasing a deep emotional resonance and meticulous attention to sonic detail in the project. "Falling," the titular track, sets the tone with its undulating bassline and poignant male vocals, while "Move" offers a more urgent tempo and powerful kick drums, crafting a dance floor-ready anthem of romantic yearning.

If You Leave (Remixes)
Come On Now (Romanto remix) - (6:21) 110 BPM
Dimensions (Stephane Deschezeaux Organic remix) - (4:45) 110 BPM Hot
If You Leave (Rayko remix) - (6:04) 117 BPM
Review: Rare Wiri bring us three new rubs of the tracks that made up German nu-disco regular Andy Bach's 'If You Leave' EP, released in November last year. Romanto's take on 'Come On Now' strips away the deep house elements and transforms it into a hazy summer nu-disco jam, Stephane Deschezeaux's Organic Remix of 'Dimesions' injects a little more funk and soul into what was quite a trippy, Balearic-leaning original, before 'If You Leave' - a fairly 'accessible' and pop-oriented nu-disco cut in its original form - gets handed over to label boss Rayko, whose rework gives it a deeper, more underground kinda feel.

Body Jerkin'
Body Jerkin' - (7:45) 126 BPM Hot
Body Jerkin' (Chicago mix) - (8:32) 125 BPM
Body Jerkin' (Disco mix) - (5:37) 129 BPM
Review: Two Chi-town veterans scene join forces with predictably fine results that are served up in three quite different mixes. In its Original form, 'Body Jerkin' is a disco-house paean to the delights of the dancefloor with a full vocal from Everett, live-sounding hand percussion and naggingly familiar disco strings. The Chicago Mix kicks much harder from the off with rock-solid 4/4s, but almost immediately takes a far jazzier turn with meandering, wigged-out keys, Everett getting his scat on and horns joining the party around the three-minute mark. And then there's the Disco Mix, which opts for a more 70s-ish sound palette but takes a looping, cut-up approach. All three are eminently playable but the Chicago Mix is the one for the proverbial 'heads'.

Just Think About That Feeling - (4:53) 125 BPM
At The Beach - (5:04) 120 BPM Hot
Review: Boblebad - that'll be Norwegian for 'hot tub' or 'jacuzzi', then - goes by the name of Ulf Moen Denneche in real life and hails, unsurprisingly, from Oslo. Here he comes to Citizens Of Vice with three tracks of (mostly) heavily electronic nu disco, with the title track a jaunty, lolloping affair sporting some Daft Punk-esque guitar flourishes, 'Just Think About That Feeling' a slightly deeper, spacier number built for late-hours play, and 'At The Beach' the quirkiest and least synth-tastic cut of the three with its sampled seaside sounds, insistent hand percussion, Spanish guitars and kiddy vox.

Que Pasa - (5:07) 119 BPM
Conmbe - (5:08) 125 BPM Hot
Donme - (4:56) 117 BPM
Review: Argentinian producer and re-editor Alexny returns to Furious Mandrill with the third installment in a series that draws heavily on world music influences, though whether the three tracks here are re-edits or original productions is a little unclear. Either way, 'Que Pasa' is, unsurprisingly, a Latin-flavoured affair with dense layers of percussion and a one-line vocal, 'Conmbe' is a somewhat funkier affair with a full male vocal in an unknown language and some energetic guitar work that hints at highlife, while finally 'Donme' is a deep, shufflin' groove with choral vox (again in an unidentified tongue) and probably the best bet for non-specialist floors.

Tutto Un Deja Vu - (5:00) 120 BPM
Magica - (5:27) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Following a fine debut on Apparel Music alongside Paul Bart 14 months ago, Tamati delivers a solo debut on Mexican label Saint Wax. Title track 'Notte in Riviera' places seductive Italian vocals atop a blend of moody nu-disco synths and jacking acid house grooves - all sweaty drum machine handclaps, addictive bass and sun-splashed lead lines - while 'Tutto Un Déjà vu' blurs the boundaries between early '90s Italo-house and warehouse-ready house cuts of the late 1980s. Finally, Tamari takes us towards the early hours with bold and beautiful acid house workout 'Magica'.

Dreamer - (3:52) 120 BPM Hot
Carry Them - (3:50) 120 BPM
Where I Hide - (4:31) 120 BPM
Review: A typically varied three-tracker here from Flevans, whose output has spanned breaks, nu disco, soul and more. The EP opens with 'Dreamer', which brings the authentically 70s-sounding disco vibes. Next up is 'Carry Them', a sweeping, dramatic but hard-to-pigeonhole concoction made up mostly of breakbeats and delicate pianos that comes topped with a soulful male vocal. And then finally there's 'Where I Hide', which again has a piano front and centre but this time in much more sprightly fashion, accompanied by a female vocal and underpinned by a solid but unassuming 4/4 kick. 'Dreamer' takes the gold for yours truly.

Review: "Shut The Lights Out" is a funky throwback brimming with infectious energy, courtesy of Berlin production duo Lovebirds and vocalist NILE. Lovebirds channel their well-regarded love for 70s and 80s sounds into a groovy production. The foundation is an arresting funk beat, bolstered by classic disco instrumentation and dreamy synths. NILE's vocals are the perfect compliment, with a motivational spoken-word style that adds another layer of interest. The package is completed by a remix from disco aficionado Birdee, who takes the original's sparkling energy and adds their own signature touch. Birdee's remix is an upbeat and spacey take, perfect for extending the dancefloor journey.

Review: Brazil's Hugo Doche returns to East London-based label The Disco Express with three fresh slices of contemporary disco/disco-house. 'Hit The Tracks' features a very pop-oriented vocal from Sansy but also sports some excellent sax work, the Kria McKenzie-sporting 'This Feeling' has something of the lounge-y vibe of late 70s Brazilian disco but also comes accompanied by a significantly more house-ified remix from Birdee that for this reviewer is the standout track on the EP, while finally 'Dance' features Carla Sceno on mic duties and rocks crisp 4/4s and a fat funk bassline.

Drummer's Dance - (5:36) 120 BPM Hot
Review: For the latest missive on his long-running Internasjonal imprint, Norse disco don Prins Thomas has turned to first-time collaborators SONNS (AKA South Korea-based Frenchman Timothee Victorri) and Mexcian maverick Inigo Vontier, a producer renowned for the psychedelic nature of his dancefloor workouts. The headline attraction is arguably title tracl 'Mascara De Tigre', a pleasingly percussive, offbeat and mind-mangling affair that wraps hazy piano motifs, trippy electronics and tactile vocal samples around an unusual but addictive beat. Prins Thomas remixes, giving the track a sleazy Italo disco-meets-weirdo house flex, before the pair offer up two more tracks: the acid-flecked nu-disco shuffle of 'Dreamers' and the post punk-goes-dark disco flex of 'Drummers Dance'.

Western Union (Endrik Schroeder Slicing remix) - (6:18) 130 BPM
Review: Fresh from making his bow on Bordello a Parigi with the quirky (and rather good) 'Synthesizer Hits II' EP, Marc Pellerin AKA Panthera pops up on Melodize with another strong offering. Title track 'Hustle' is a bright, breezy and seriously colourful slab of synth-powered nu-disco joyousness - all Chris Lowe chords, jaunty melodies, sequenced Italo-disco bass and unfussy drums, while 'Western Union' is a more throbbing and pulsating slab of wall-of-sound Italo-disco with progressive trance flourishes. Lauer opts for a Pet Shop Boys-go-Balearic vibe on his rework of 'Hustle', while Endik Schroeder joins the dots between neo-trance and surging Italo-disco on a fine remix of 'Western Union'.

Hypnosis (SHMLSS remix) - (6:06) 122 BPM
Vice II (Eagles & Butterflies remix dub version) - (6:12) 125 BPM
Review: Five new rubs here of cuts from Dutch producer Isaie's 2022 long-playing debut. 'Psycho' drew on influences like coldwave, new beat and Italo disco, and Gerd Jansen and SHMLSS's remixes of 'ACE' and 'Hypnosis', respectively, don't mess with that script overmuch. Kiara Scuro & Tech Support give 'Psycho' a more radical makeover, transforming the new beat-ish chug of the original into something altogether more upbeat, danceable and acidic, but it's Eagles & Butterflies' two mixes of 'Vice II' that stand out in the reinvention stakes, taking the 80s-style European synth-pop of the original and putting it onboard a remix express that's stopping at house, trance and Italo on its way to the dancefloor...

Turbotito, Ragz & Manjeet Kondal - "Pyaar" (edit) - (3:14) 95 BPM
Review: Billed as a "tribute to the forgotten late '80s/early '90s era of Bhangra influenced by house, dub and hip-hop", this expansive collection boasts fresh remixes of tracks from Manjeet Kondal's 1986 album 'Holle Holle', and a fresh cut featuring vocal samples from that set. Mr Scruff steps up to provide the remixes, offering four passes on 'Ishkaan de Mamie': a deliciously jacking, proto house-meets-acid house full vocal remix that lasts for just a shade under 10 mesmerising minutes, a sleazy and percussive 'Instrumental Dub', an alternative 'Vocal Strip Down' take with added TB-303 tweaks, and a tidy 'Edit'. Turbotito and Ragz deliver 'Pyaar', a brilliant slab of late '80s style Bhangra/hip-hop fusion with added acid lines. The 'Lovey Dubby Dub' is a sensational alternative pass that's arguably better than the duo's original mix.

Review: Montenegro-based rework maestro Mitiko (real name Sasha Mitich) has been a busy boy this year, with this EP-turned-mini album marking his sixth missive of 2024 to date. There's plenty to get the blood pumping and the feet moving across the seven tracks on show, from the lightly housed up vocal disco rush of 'Along With You' and the filter-sporting Afro-disco joy of 'Fungi Mama', to the slow-motion disco-funk headiness of 'Ghost' and the build-and-release excellence of the stomping, string-laden peak-time disco of 'Peak At You'. Those seeking mid-tempo thrills are catered for via 'Get Up and Boogie', while 'Latin Hustle' is a memorable revision of a Spanish language dancefloor gem.

Review: Fabrizio Mammarella and Rodion deliver a momentous release with Musica E Computer - recorded in the legendary Marche Synth Museum in Italy. The opening track "Iris" sets an exceptional tone, exploring eerie, metallic tropical landscapes, while others like "A Corrente Alternata" and "Un Segnale Di Speranza" showcase Mammerella and Rodion's unmatched partnership, crafting enigmatic, timeless earworms with driving basslines and arcane vocoders. Throughout the album, the duo seamlessly blends synthetic and organic sounds, offering a geographic coda to the Italian region's rich musical history. Musica E Computer culminates in "Una Nuova Era", a transcendent homage to the recording synth drenched studio the album was recorded in which makes for some Italorama to the fullest!
