Third Attempt - "Language Of The Heart" - (4:03) 106 BPM
Review: The new EP, "Offshore Sunsets," by the collaborative effort of Steve Cobby (of Fila Brazilia fame) and Third Attempt washes over the listener like a warm, hazy summer evening. Released on Paper Recordings, this three-track offering is a delightful exploration of Balearic house, perfect for unwinding or soundtracking a laid-back gathering. The opening track, "B Human," sets the tone with its "rolling, hypnotic, spaced-out" vibe (as described by Paper Recordings). Floating minor keys, a walking bassline, and a gorgeously chugging guitar create a sun-drenched soundscape. This is Balearic bliss at its finest. Third Attempt takes the reins for the aptly titled "Language Of The Heart." This track leans into a more downtempo, a perfect offering for those late-night sessions or creating a chilled atmosphere. The duo reunites for the closing track, "Feeling Seen." This hazy, jazzy broken beat number brings the EP to a satisfying conclusion. Deep basslines intertwine with funky elements, showcasing the collaborative magic between Cobby and Third Attempt.

Nina's Theme (The Berlin Skit) (The Berlin Skit) - (3:50) 104 BPM
Review: Following years spent flitting between labels including Toy Tonics and Razor N Tape Reserve, COEO make their bow on Shall Not Fade. In keeping with the Bristol label's approach to digital releases, it's an expansive and action-packed affair. Title track 'Planet Earth' is one of the Munich-based duo's more forthright cuts to date - a thrusting, bongo-laden techno tempo rave workout propelled forwards by an insanely good (and rubbery) electronic bassline and psychedelic acid lines aplenty - while 'Satellite Bay' sounds like a cross between early '90s synth-pop, Kraftwerk and Euro-dance. Elsewhere, 'Rush Hour' gloriously joins the dots between hip-house, vintage MK productions and the Pet Shop Boys' Relentless' album; 'Kawasaki Racing Club' combines breakbeats and early UK progressive house sounds; and 'The Stage Is Yours' is a head-nodding, midtempo acid breaks affair.

Space Talk (Maurice Fulton remix) - (7:02) 100 BPM
Lies (Kraak & Smaak remix) - (3:56) 100 BPM
Review: Buoyed by the success of the Dimitri From Paris remixes of 'Space Talk', Naya Beat has decided to offer up more new reworks of classic cuts from the disco-era catalogue of Indian singer and actress Asha Puthli. Naturally Space Talk gets another tweak - Maurice Fulton delivers a sparse, percussive, dubbed-out take in his inimitable style -but there are plenty of revisions of lesser-celebrated cuts to enjoy. Yuksek turns 'I Am Song (Sing Me)' into a hybrid storming soul/surging Moroder-disco workout; Kraak & Smaak go all deep disco on the dreamy 'Lies'; Turbitto & Ragz add a touch of delay to the Indian disco-goes-Salsoul flex of 'One Night Affair'; 'Right Down Here' is turned into a spaced-out cosmic disco number by Psychemagik; and Jitwam adds a touch of 21st century weight to suspenseful disco gem 'I'm Gonna Dance'.

Rumba Solar (edit) - (3:16) 100 BPM
Review: Two Balearic legends collide as Chris Coco teams up with George Solar - another DJ who's never happier than when serving up chilled sundown vibes on the White Island - for an outing on his own DSPRR label. There are two mixes of 'Rumba Solar' to choose from: the Edit is a pretty much archetypical slice of Balearic chill-out, all slo-mo drums, tinkling keys, aquatic sounds, barely-there snatches of ethereal female vocal and hints of dub, while the SIRS Remix transforms the track into more of post-club headnodder with slightly livelier (though still fairly low-tempo) drums.

000 BABY - (6:36) 109 BPM Hot
Review: Chinese producer Mr Ho impresses muchly with this release on his own Klasse Wrecks label. '000 Baby' in its Original form is a delightfully diverse concoction that blends ethereal synths, a haunting, lilting female vocal, drums that nod to early 90s street soul, Rastaman shouts, a big fat bassline and, as we get into the second half, lots of pleasing acid squelch. As if that wasn't enough Bristol boy Jim Coles, better known as Om Unit, then gives the track a deep drum & bass makeover that's enough to get the hairs on the back of your neck standing up and no mistake, guv'nor. Top drawer bizniss for sure.

Kleeer - "Tonight" - (5:05) 104 BPM
Al Green - "Truth N Time" - (3:38) 103 BPM
Review: 10 years on from its initial release, Groove Armada's contribution to the Anotherlatenight series gets a new lease of life. For those searching for deep, downtempo and vaguely Balearic fare, it's well worth a look. While Groove Armada's mix is enjoyable enough, it's the unmixed tracks that are most worthy of attention. Amongst the familiar classics (Kleer's boogie classic "Tonight", Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It" and Metro Area's "Muira"), you'll find hot curiosities from the likes of Shuggie Otis (the decidedly acid-fried "Strawberry Letter 23"), Loose Ends ("Feel The Vibe"), Good Together (forgotten super-deep house jam "Work It Out") and Don Ray (the heady disco grooves of "Standing In The Rain").

Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

With You All My Fears Wash Away - (1:53) 101 BPM
Review: Although it might still be too soon to call Texan producer DJ Poolboi a legend, his music is certainly starting to lean the way of legendary, with lo-fi house the artist's trademark. It's the boi's third album in four years across three labels and first on Shall Not Fade in which he's become something of a figure head, and Into The Blue Light signals potential for AOTY (Album of the Year). Filled with deep and impactful emotion, melancholy and warmth, it's a long player that pulls at the heart-strings while firing up the dancefloor with chords, keys and melodies that hit those sweet spots, while booming in kick, bass and drums. Highlights include opener, "Won't Let You Ruin My Mood", the pop-aqua rave of "For The Last Time" and some piano-driven Moby inspirations in "The Joy You Once Felt".

Review: Valique's V's Edits reworks have long been some of the most popular re-edits on this platform, with DJs responding not only to their floor-friendly nature but also the wide range of sounds and styles he turns his hand to. So, what's on offer this time around? Well, for starters Yellow Blues is raising money for victims of the war in Ukraine, a country to which Valique has family ties. As usual, it's a mixed bag of goodness, with highlights including a squelchy, TB0-303 speckled take on a Johnny Cash classic, the chugging nu-disco/swamp blues fusion of 'Was It Worth It?', a fine revision of Rodrigues classic 'You Can't Get Away', a housed-up tweak of an old Doors gem ('Learn To Forget') and a toe-tapping, club-ready revision of Kenny Rogers' sing-along 'Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Conidtion is In)'.

Nunca Jamas - (5:53) 100 BPM
Review: Rayko teams up once more with Elena Hikari to deliver the pair's second joint long-player, following on the heels of 2023's 'Tu Alma Y La Mia'. But while that first album was good, this one's exceptional! Cinematic, cosmic opener 'Too Much' sets the tone but it's the second track, 'Nunca James', that really hits you in the face: it's a slow-burning monster, with Hikari's haunting vocal earning it a place in the box marked "truly sublime". 'Looking To Edge' is another BIG track that probably needs to be heard on a 4am dancefloor to be truly appreciated; after that you get four more cuts that blur the lines between cosmic/Italo disco, Balearica, coldwave, house and pop (including a new version of 'Extraordinarylove' from the first album) before the title track, another deep, slo-mo chugger, plays us out in very fine style. Excellent work!

Sabre 540 (Rude Audio remix) - (6:11) 104 BPM
Review: Slo-mo and emotive house and techno that sounds well inspired by B-Pitch days of yore and other acts like Moderat - that's if "Sabre 540" is anything to go by. A deep and alluring EP inspiring electronic music as much as it does acoustic and worldly sounds - with melancholia and euphoria dancing side by side. Hinting at futher acid techno inspirations in "B.T.C.o.P", Rude Audio remixes bother tracks, getting flighty with the synths ad reverb in "Sabre 540", while burning in some extra acid funk in "B.T.C.o.P". Highlight recommended.

Review: Nocturnal Activity was released by Mark Rae on Manchester's Grand Central Records, an independent record label back in 2002. It is a remix album, composed of alternative mixes of the tracks from the Sleepwalking LP, plus one new track, a cover version of the Parliament track "Flashlight". It contains some of the labels most sought after tracks. For the dancefloor, The Nextmen remix of "It Aint Nothin Like" is considered a classic. Atjazz turns in a magical remix with Kate Rogers on "Not Just Anybody". Groove Armada went on a weekend break to a country house to flip the Pharcyde's Booty Brown on "Let It Go". However the best is left to last with the fully acoustic version of "Get A Life" with soul legend Bobby Womack.

Review: With releases on Redux, Leng, International Feel and Is It Balearic? to his name, Fernando Pulichino's Balearic credentials are not in doubt. It's pleasing, then, to see the sometime 2020 Soundsystem and Silver City member make his bow on Pete Herbert's Music For Swimming Pools label. He delivers a trio of original tracks, beginning with the organ-sporting, bass guitar-propelled mid-tempo warmth of 'Mareas'. He goes deeper and slower still on the sunset soundscape that is 'Venus Banfield', before opting for a more dubbed-out, jazz funk-bass-sporting sound on the gorgeous 'Stations'. Pete Herbert naturally handles remix duties, first delivering a pitched-up, synth-laden nu-disco spin on 'Mareas', before turning 'Stations' into a slow-motion dancing delight.

Katanaboy - (4:44) 100 BPM Hot
Review: Some producers turn out new albums like the rest of us brush our teeth. Others prefer a 'quality over quantity' approach - and that's certainly true in the case of Paul Murphy AKA Mudd, who here delivers what's only his second-ever solo album, and his first since 2006's 'Claremont 56' (though to be fair there have been a clutch of collaborative efforts along the way). It was worth the wait, though: that's given him 18 years to perfect his distinctive but hard-to-classify midtempo style, and 'In The Garden...' is indeed as close to perfection as you're likely to get. Blending elements of jazz-funk, disco, lounge and Balearica, it's perhaps best summed up as a contemporary update of the jazz-fusion sound of the late 70s/early 80s, but our advice would be to not worry too much about labels, and instead just press 'play', lay back and enjoy! Very classy stuff indeed.

The album starts out in laidback, Balearic mode with Secret Soul Society's 'Draw Of The Cards' and ends up back there with Manolo's 'By The Moon', but in-between you'll find the looping, funked-up deep house of Fran Deeper's 'Lost Baby', the shape-throwing 80s Faltermeyer-isms of Kelton Prima's 'The Beggining', Ilya Santana's floor-friendly cover of Vangelis's 'Dervish D', the electro nouveau of From Beyond's 'Star Slip' and more besides. Review: Amazingly, it's 25 years since George 'E.A.S.E' Evelyn and then production partner Kevin 'Boy Wonder' Harper sat down and recorded "Dextrous", their monstrous, bleep-era classic on Warp. A quarter of a century later, Evelyn is still going strong, though the grooves have mellowed a lot in that time. Here, Warp celebrate the producer's epic career with a much-deserved retrospective. All the familiar favourites are present, from the rush-inducing thrill of early dancefloor smashers "I'm For Real" and "Aftermath", to the sinewy downtempo goodness of the decidedly Balearic "Les Nuits", the blazed hip-hop dub of "195 Llbs" and stoner soul of "70s 80s".

Review: In 2023, Music From Memory celebrates its remarkable decade-long journey with 10 - a captivating anniversary compilation that encapsulates the label's groundbreaking archival releases, cross-generational collaborations, and enduring creative partnerships. Inviting artists from their roster to contribute, the compilation weaves together a diverse tapestry of sound, featuring contributions from both foundational figures like Gigi Masin and emerging talents like The Zenmenn. Mirroring the label's ethos, 10 transcends temporal and spatial boundaries, spanning from Vito Ricci's "Da Hamptons" (1985) to Yu Su & J. Wilson's "Mitti Atar" (2023) - representing 10 countries across 17 tracks. This immersive musical journey, flowing seamlessly from start to finish, serves as a poignant reflection on Music From Memory's evolution. The compilation also becomes a significant tribute as it coincides with the passing of label co-owner Jamie Tiller during the finalisation of MFM066 - making 10 an emotionally resonant testament to the collective journey of the team.

Review: Radio Slave's streak of impressive singles on Rekids continues with the dreamy, Balearic-infused future hit: "Amnesia." A collaboration with Southern Fried Records legend, Cagedbaby, the track weaves an euphoric blend of cascading drum breaks and deeply alluring vocals with a nostalgic overload of searing synths and heart swelling pads. As synthesising some kind of Faithless, Robert Miles, DJ Koze and Groove Armada mega hit with that intangible feeling of bliss and euphoria - it's the melancholia here that's most overt. It's hard to imagine this not self-combusting dancers in closing sets at Ibiza this year.

Review: Danish producer Mads Dalholt is perhaps best known as one-half of Dalholt & Langkilde, whose 2015 album 'Sur Plus' is regarded as something of a classic in Balearic and downtempo circles. Now he comes with his first solo album and shows that he hasn't lost his touch, as he serves up 12 tracks that are laidback without ever getting boring, and mellow without ever getting overly polite or twee. 'Sitarhara' is a particular highlight to these ears with its hazy, subcontinental feel, while elsewhere 'Gui Tabu' evidences Latin influences and cuts like 'Drummer' and 'Jatak' look to African music for inspiration. It all adds up 1 hour 11 minutes of chilled listening that's well worth investigating even if downtempo vibes aren't usually where you're at.

Baby Please Don't Go (Oooh No) - (5:38) 105 BPM
Review: After releases by DoctorSoul, Dave Mathmos and Vibes4YourSoul, Berlin-based Too Slow To Disco are back with number six in their edits series. This one comes courtesy of Los Angeles nu-disco wizard Blake Robin aka LUXXURY, who has built up a solid reputation via his method of using the multi-tracks of classic hits to create dubby/slow-mo versions of classics. On TSTD06, we have "Hello My Love" which is a loved-up and low slung slow burner that's worthy tackle for the late night, followed by the romantic '70s swagger of a well known AOR classic on "Baby Please Don't Go (Oooh No)".

Too Late To Dream

Inner Story (Lone Saxon Street Rub) - (6:21) 108 BPM Hot
Review: Shades of Sound Recordings have turned to young French producer Harrington - a lover of deeply dreamy, emotive and nostalgic house music - for their latest release. He sets his stall out with title track 'Too Late To Dream', a gorgeously colourful and authentic tribute to late '80s Italian dream house, before Joe Morris joins the dots between Don Carlos and street soul on his accompanying remix. Breezier late '80s piano house flavours are the order of the day on 'Inner Story' and Lone Saxon's electro-break driven 'Street Rub', while 'Vision of Mind' is a tactile and smile-inducing slice of Italo-house excellence. Best of all, though is the slow-burn and ludicrously loved-up Akasha System rework of that track: a killer cut to end a genuinely superb EP.

What To Do But Love You - (4:58) 107 BPM
There's No You - (4:16) 100 BPM
Review: What we have here is the first-ever release from Lovetempo, a new solo project from Mattie Safer, who's best known as the bassist for NYC punk-funk outfit The Rapture, as well as his slo-mo stylings under the Poolside moniker. On this evidence, Lovetempo will slot in neatly between the two: less strident and attitude-y than the former but more dancefloor-oriented than the latter. Most of the EP's five original cuts sit somewhere between Balearica, indie soul and melancholy electronic pop, but it's Nick Catchdubs' stripped n' strutty, 80s-flavoured remix of 'Turnaround' that stands out to these ears.

Review: The concept behind Bill Brewster's latest 'After Dark' compilation - his first for eight years fact fans - is "low and slow", with the author, DJ and record collector utilising this loose but logical theme to deliver an undeniably eclectic selection of high-grade cuts. The quality threshold remains high from start to finish, as Brewster variously serves up twinkling, jazz-flecked electronica (T.O.E), synth-laden proto-Balearic dreaminess (Island Band), Weatherall-esque dark disco psychedelia (Brewster's Hotel Motel project remixing Jeb Loy Nichols), squelchy nu-disco deepness (Ray Mang dubbing out Khruangbin), acid-flecked revivalist proto-house (Rhythm Plate), little-known, 80s soul era synth-pop (Debbie & The Code), future Balearic anthems (Naill re-editing Gilbert O'Sullivan), saucer-eyed, piano-sporting space house (Gus Patterson) and ultra-deep electro (Carl Finlow).
