Rush Hour - (6:07) 127 BPM
Review: Following years spent flitting between labels including Toy Tonics and Razor N Tape Reserve, COEO make their bow on Shall Not Fade. In keeping with the Bristol label's approach to digital releases, it's an expansive and action-packed affair. Title track 'Planet Earth' is one of the Munich-based duo's more forthright cuts to date - a thrusting, bongo-laden techno tempo rave workout propelled forwards by an insanely good (and rubbery) electronic bassline and psychedelic acid lines aplenty - while 'Satellite Bay' sounds like a cross between early '90s synth-pop, Kraftwerk and Euro-dance. Elsewhere, 'Rush Hour' gloriously joins the dots between hip-house, vintage MK productions and the Pet Shop Boys' Relentless' album; 'Kawasaki Racing Club' combines breakbeats and early UK progressive house sounds; and 'The Stage Is Yours' is a head-nodding, midtempo acid breaks affair.

Crazy P Curate Volume Four

Ruf Dug - "Vape Quarter Rhythm" - (5:23) 125 BPM
Review: If you thought the first 'Crazy P Curates' compilations was a wild ride, hold on tight because this one is a rollercoaster through the sonic cosmos. 20/20 Vision Recordings continues to deliver musical treasures, and this fourth volume is a testament to the Notts scene stalwarts' commitment to championing tunes that make you move and groove. Kicking off this sonic escapade is the Scandi-disco maestro Ray Mang, weaving his magic with lush cosmic melodies and nu-disco beats that are so loose-limbed, they could moonwalk on their own. Funk alert: this is not your average trip through the cosmos; it's a funkadelic joyride through the galaxy. Next up, Tigerbalm takes us on a detour to a tropical oasis with "Cosmic Union" featuring the enchanting vocals of Joy Tyson. Afro rhythms and steamy vocals bring the heat. Ruf Dug joins the sonic expedition with "Vape Quarter Rhythm," a mind-bending blend of proto-house and dreamy Italo bliss-out. Closing out this auditory voyage is Ibiza's Tuccillo with "Siroco," a signature Balearic gem that's as carefree as cocktails by the sea at sundown. It's the kind of track that makes you want to kick off your shoes, feel the sand between your toes, and let the music carry you away on a sea breeze. The love affair between 20/20 Vision and Crazy P is like a cosmic dance, and this fourth installment is a testament to their enduring relationship.

I Am Song (Sing Me) (Yuksek remix) - (4:23) 126 BPM Hot
I'm Gonna Dance (Jitwam remix) - (4:40) 125 BPM
Review: Buoyed by the success of the Dimitri From Paris remixes of 'Space Talk', Naya Beat has decided to offer up more new reworks of classic cuts from the disco-era catalogue of Indian singer and actress Asha Puthli. Naturally Space Talk gets another tweak - Maurice Fulton delivers a sparse, percussive, dubbed-out take in his inimitable style -but there are plenty of revisions of lesser-celebrated cuts to enjoy. Yuksek turns 'I Am Song (Sing Me)' into a hybrid storming soul/surging Moroder-disco workout; Kraak & Smaak go all deep disco on the dreamy 'Lies'; Turbitto & Ragz add a touch of delay to the Indian disco-goes-Salsoul flex of 'One Night Affair'; 'Right Down Here' is turned into a spaced-out cosmic disco number by Psychemagik; and Jitwam adds a touch of 21st century weight to suspenseful disco gem 'I'm Gonna Dance'.

Late Night Tales / Another Late Night: Groove Armada (Remastered) (unmixed tracks)

Groove Armada - "Fly Me To The Moon" - (5:12) 125 BPM
Various - "Another Late Night: Groove Armada" (continuous DJ mix by Groove Armada) - (1:11:07) 126 BPM
Review: 10 years on from its initial release, Groove Armada's contribution to the Anotherlatenight series gets a new lease of life. For those searching for deep, downtempo and vaguely Balearic fare, it's well worth a look. While Groove Armada's mix is enjoyable enough, it's the unmixed tracks that are most worthy of attention. Amongst the familiar classics (Kleer's boogie classic "Tonight", Mr Fingers' "Can You Feel It" and Metro Area's "Muira"), you'll find hot curiosities from the likes of Shuggie Otis (the decidedly acid-fried "Strawberry Letter 23"), Loose Ends ("Feel The Vibe"), Good Together (forgotten super-deep house jam "Work It Out") and Don Ray (the heady disco grooves of "Standing In The Rain").

Into Blue Light

Wherever You End Up - (2:28) 128 BPM
Review: Although it might still be too soon to call Texan producer DJ Poolboi a legend, his music is certainly starting to lean the way of legendary, with lo-fi house the artist's trademark. It's the boi's third album in four years across three labels and first on Shall Not Fade in which he's become something of a figure head, and Into The Blue Light signals potential for AOTY (Album of the Year). Filled with deep and impactful emotion, melancholy and warmth, it's a long player that pulls at the heart-strings while firing up the dancefloor with chords, keys and melodies that hit those sweet spots, while booming in kick, bass and drums. Highlights include opener, "Won't Let You Ruin My Mood", the pop-aqua rave of "For The Last Time" and some piano-driven Moby inspirations in "The Joy You Once Felt".

Offshore (DC Symphonic Rehearsal mix) - (7:51) 125 BPM
Review: It's 2024 which means it's time pay your tributes to the trance Gods once again with some newly re-upped versions of Chicanes all-time classic "Offshore". Unquestionably one the the most important and influential trance productions of all time, this latest addition to the series brings with it an orchestral touch, with, first of all, the 'Symphonic Rehearsal mix' - baroque in its reverberation and as if kissed by some Deep Forest breaks of that French new age '90s sound. Secondly we get a pulsating DC Symphonic Rehearsal mix with its techno beat, progressive bassline and subtle dub tinges for a classical and reduced version that doesn't skimp on the original's divine string section. Such a release wouldn't be replete without the all time, seminal, original either.

Manjeet Kondal - "Ishkaan De Mamle" (Mr Scruff edit) - (4:46) 127 BPM Hot
Review: Billed as a "tribute to the forgotten late '80s/early '90s era of Bhangra influenced by house, dub and hip-hop", this expansive collection boasts fresh remixes of tracks from Manjeet Kondal's 1986 album 'Holle Holle', and a fresh cut featuring vocal samples from that set. Mr Scruff steps up to provide the remixes, offering four passes on 'Ishkaan de Mamie': a deliciously jacking, proto house-meets-acid house full vocal remix that lasts for just a shade under 10 mesmerising minutes, a sleazy and percussive 'Instrumental Dub', an alternative 'Vocal Strip Down' take with added TB-303 tweaks, and a tidy 'Edit'. Turbotito and Ragz deliver 'Pyaar', a brilliant slab of late '80s style Bhangra/hip-hop fusion with added acid lines. The 'Lovey Dubby Dub' is a sensational alternative pass that's arguably better than the duo's original mix.

The Snake Charmer EP

Dennis Cruz & Damian Lazarus - "Revolution" (feat DJ Holographic) - (6:40) 126 BPM
Review: Two years on from the release of his popular debut album, Roots, Dennis Cruz returns to Crosstown Rebels with an EP that mixes top-notch solo tracks with a couple of eye-catching collaborations. In the former category you'll find fine title track 'Snake Charmer', an exotic, intoxicating and tribal-tinged chunk of early morning 'ethno-house' that subtly builds in intensity throughout, and the dark, hushed and hypnotic tech-house of 'Time Out'. Elsewhere, Cruz first joins forces with label boss Damian Lazarus and guest DJ Holographic on 'Revolution', a kind of 21st century tech-house update of the Dance Mania ghetto-house sound, before collaborating with Ian Ludvig on the wonky, mind altering and darkened pulse of 'Pain Away'.

Review: Manchester-based Loz Goddard returns to the spotlight in celebration of Dirt Crew Recordings 20th anniversary (Dirt Crew Recordings - 20 years? No way!). It marks a comeback for the producer after a notable debut collaboration with Harry Wolfman in 2016. Known for his unique blend of electronica, deep soundscapes and lush and organic deep house, Goddard has graced labels like Oath, Razor N Tape and Church on his musical journey, presenting here for DT a captivating mini-album featuring beautifully crafted ambient and electronica pieces alongside three energetic tracks. Inspired by a night at the White Hotel in Salford watching Skee Mask, Goddard goes deep on six compositions, offering listeners a journey through a new age sound of house to prick the ears of Legowelt fans for sure. Big ups Loz!

Review: Amazingly, it's 25 years since George 'E.A.S.E' Evelyn and then production partner Kevin 'Boy Wonder' Harper sat down and recorded "Dextrous", their monstrous, bleep-era classic on Warp. A quarter of a century later, Evelyn is still going strong, though the grooves have mellowed a lot in that time. Here, Warp celebrate the producer's epic career with a much-deserved retrospective. All the familiar favourites are present, from the rush-inducing thrill of early dancefloor smashers "I'm For Real" and "Aftermath", to the sinewy downtempo goodness of the decidedly Balearic "Les Nuits", the blazed hip-hop dub of "195 Llbs" and stoner soul of "70s 80s".

Review: A decade on from the release of 'Blackbird', the third studio album by beloved New Zealand combo Fat Freddy's Drop, the album returns in freshly remixed form. It's a naturally celebratory affair that touches on most of their stylistic influences and more, from reggae/soul/hip-hop fusion (the fine Kings rub of 'Blackbird', Christophe El Torento and Lucky Lance reworking 'Clean The House'), sub-heavy house warmth (Nightmares on Wax's club-ready take on 'Russia'), dub disco (Kiwi deep house star Philippa tweaking 'Bones'), soaring house-not-house (Jazzanova's emotion-rich interpretation of 'Soldier'), digi-dub (Marcus Worgull's version of 'Blackbird'), wobbly jump-up D&B (Freestykes and Dub Pistols re-imagining 'Bones') and bowel-bothering bass music (Syrup D's fantastic mix of 'Silver & Gold').

Motivation (feat Ras Stimulant) - (7:02) 126 BPM Hot
Review: Session Victim makes another triumphant return to Delusions of Grandeur with The Intangibles EP, following some noteworthy releases on Toytonics and Rhythm Section International. In the EP's opening track, "Motivation," they team up with Ras Stimulant, a dub-wise microphone man, to create a mesmerizing and intoxicating peak-time loop jam. This track is filled to the brim with irresistible electric piano riffs, vocal snippets drenched in delay effects, jazzy embellishments, and interstellar electronics. Following is "Dromedary Twist" with some winding saxophone lines interweaved with a thick deep house groove, replete with sustained chords and improvised Rhodes motifs. Lastly, "Green Run" lowers the BPMs as the listener enters the realm of lazy, hazy, blissed-out jazzed-up beats. With their style combining live organic elements, fat floor-filling beats, the Germna's duo comes up with comprises three original tracks that traverse the spectrum of high-energy jazz disco meets techno, soulful uplifting house, and downtempo blunted beats.

Nu-Era - "Mirror Images" - (6:07) 127 BPM
Review: Swiss DJ Sassy J now curates the second compilation in the Patchwork series, for Dutch imprint Rush Hour. For the past 14 years, she has run a night of the same name in her hometown Bern, and another in London. Showcasing music by many of the artists that have joined her throughout the years in clubs, on the radio and at home, this release is made up of new and unreleased tracks, capturing a sound that has continued to evolve in its restless search for new musical directions. From the deep, soulful and emotive tones of Warm's "Blue Sunrise" or 2000Black's "Plastic Jam", to Afro influenced spiritual life music as heard by the lady herself (with Alex Attias) on "Jelly Bubble Rise", through to RH label staple Aardvark's hi-tech soul deconstruction "Aap Noot" and Mr Fingers stone cold classic "Survivor" - Sassy J takes you on an evocative sonic journey from start to finish.

Once Again - (5:16) 128 BPM
Freak The Funk - (5:05) 125 BPM
Review: Italian legend Quiroga, also known as Walter Del Vecchio, takes us on a riveting journey through the acid house era with his latest offering on Hell Yeah Recordings. This intriguing package includes two original tracks, an ambient mix, and a remix by the revered DMX Krew. In "Once Again," Quiroga delivers a punchy and robust house groove that's laced with a touch of eccentricity. The "Ambient Version" of "Once Again" takes a detour into the downtempo realm. It retains the wild acid lines but introduces ethereal effects, old-school piano chords, and a soulful female vocal that dances alongside a blissful breakdown. DMX Krew steps in to offer his take on "Once Again" with a remix that transforms the track into a bumping acid-electro monster. This remix exemplifies the art of sonic manipulation, making the original composition entirely new and exhilarating. "Freak The Funk" serves as the second original cut on this release. It rides on crisp snares and snapping drum breaks, complemented by a warm bassline and smeared cosmic chords that grace the top. It's a classy peak-time house production with magical pixelated synth melodies, showcasing Quiroga's innate ability to craft music that's simultaneously stylish and dynamic.

It features such memorable hits as "What's Your Number" and other played out tracks such as "Relief Action" and "Cold Wait" which many Gen X clubbers will no doubt remember. The production on the album which was made 18 years ago is still impressive and will remain timeless, just like other albums by him such as Since Then and Souvenirs.

Review: It's some 17 years since Ian Pooley released Since Then, his third and arguably finest full-length excursion. As this first reissue proves, the set has lost none of its' warm and sunny attractiveness in the years since. While cuts such as "Coracao Tambor" and "900 Degrees" got plenty of club plays at the time, it's the German producer's versatility that shines through loud and clear. Amongst the sunny house treats, you'll find cuts that doff a cap to disco, hip-hop, samba, jazz-funk and the then popular San Francisco style of blazed deep house. For this edition, Pooley has also gathered together some of the best remixes of album tracks released in that period, including strong rubs from Faze Action, Tom Middleton, Sheffield survivors Swag and Mood 2 Swing man John Ciafone.

My Mind (single version) - (4:22) 128 BPM
Review: You have to hand it to Finnish musical maverick Jimi Tenor: now over 35 years and more than 25 albums into his career, the man's pretty much a genre all on his own. 'My Mind' first appeared on 1999's 'Organism' long-player, but this new recording - laid down at Philophon's Joy Sound Studios in Ghana, with backing from the 10-piece Rubato Chorus - finds him exploring the musical hinterland between high-life, broken beat and leftfield electronic pop, and is unlikely to disappoint his legions of fans. The accompanying 'Love Is The Language' is an equally hard-to-pigeonhole affair with hints of psychedelia and a singalong chorus.

Review: Maurice Fulton has made plenty of awesome records over the years, including a string of superb full-length sets as Boof. Here he returns with his first album under the alias for five years, and as you'd expect it's a belter. In line with its predecessors, Fulton delivers a swathe of ear-pleasing numbers laden with colourful synthesizer sounds, jazzy electric piano stabs, opaque chords and rubbery bass guitar. There are of course interesting and oddball diversions amongst the more straightforward house jams that are tricky to accurately describe - see "Ana's F Is Chillin", the intoxicating and exotic "Japanese Indian Shrimp Curry" and the kaleidoscopic space jazz that is the brilliant title track - and a handful of ultra-percussive peak-time beasts (see "Luam Has Found Her Z").

The Best Of Rick Wade

Stay - (5:38) 125 BPM
Review: With a 30-plus-year career, Rick Wade's name is spoken in reverent tones in deep house circles, thanks mostly to the output of his Harmonie Park label. For the past decade or so, he's found a regular home at Japanese label Unknown Season, and this 'best of' is really an omnibus that brings together the various EPs he's made for them, rather than a definitive, career-spanning anthology. There's still much to enjoy, though, from the fluttery, uplifting Latin-jazz-soul of 'Shinjuku Strut' to the eyes-wide-shut 4am dancefloor throb of 'Angry Orchestra', the soulful house shuffle of 'Gotta Have Jazz' and the lounge-y 70s funk nostalgia of 'After Dark'.
