Signal - (4:30) 107 BPM
Review: A massively expansive label, Unchained Recordings welcomes in Thematic to its fold following stand out releases on labels like Sofa Sound, Four Corners and Lifestyle. Bring dub, jungle, drum and bass, UKG, rave and touches of house to this Moon Warriors EP, the artist showcases his flair and flexibility. Sending it into groovy territory with "Lookout", the title track gets low slung and atmospheric alongside some bonafide steppers in "The Fuss". Closing out the EP then is "Signal" with is liquid rhythms, darker atmospheres and frenetic percussion. Big up Thematic

Hyroglifics & Deft - "Two For Two" - (3:00) 100 BPM
Review: Two things in life are guaranteed, Critical Music remaining as consistent as ever and Hyroglifics continuing to push the boundaries further than ever though sonically possible. This latest album sees a truly vibrant collection put on display, exploring the farthest stretching reaches of the Hyroglifics sound, from the thumping half-time sweeps of 'Sing To It' alongside Nah Eeto's crispy vocal display, to the sub-smashing LFO crunches of 'Juggin' and more party-driven atmospherics of 'Late Ones'. We see a number of additional vocal appearances across the project, with Yeo Limone, Black Josh, Lyza Jade and Fuex all delivering unique and inspiring performances. With such a wide array of sonic mastery on display, it's difficult to pick favourites, but the sharpened synthesiser twangs of 'Burnt Tongues' and roller-inspired rumbles of 'You Got It' would be two immediate standouts.

Natty Dread Dub (160 Breaknology remix) - (3:45) 107 BPM
Review: As always with the legendary production styles of 6Blocc has provided us with some sizzling flavours on this spicy, extensive new refix collection, taking the title 'Dub Marley'. Reworking numerous works from the most famous name in reggae music, 6Blocc does what he does best, pulling older tunes into the here and now through a combination of junglist and dubwise production approaches. The project as a whole is pretty exceptional, with numerous classics from the late great Bob being thrown in for multiple recreations, including 'Forever In Dub', 'Revolution, 'Ganja Gun' and more. For us there are a couple of clear standouts, with the '140 Steppers Remix' version of 'Running Away' and the highly energetic drum skips and breaksy rolls of 'Stir It Up' being the two that immediately jump out from this impressive selection.

Sun People - "Tell Me Something" - (4:57) 107 BPM
Review: It's no secret that the team at Exit have a legendary catalogue, which they have decided to celebrate for their 100th official drop. This Part One of the "EXIT100" compilation series features some serious heavyweights, including Itoa, Dolenz, Sertone & Addison Groove to name a few. The pure range that we get is also awesome to take in, from Fixate's stunning drum production work in "Dead End", to the skippy, juke-inspired skips of "Tell Me Something" from Sun People and the acidic adventure we are taken on in Borderlandstate_the Best Kisser In L.a.'s "Minimal Input". We couldn?t round off without discussing "Wasted" however, as Dub Phizix dive down a truly unique avenue for them, unveiling a mind-melting soundscape that would leave a tear in the eye of the staunchest electronic music fan. Top quality stuff!

Marvellous Cain - "CB4" - (4:58) 108 BPM
Review: No introductions necessary: Suburban Base shaped and fuelled rave music as knew it. Uncle Dugs documents, celebrates and champions rave music as know it. On this quarter-century retrospective Dugs brings everyone up to speed as he moves through the 90s and, in turn, the development of hardcore into jungle and drum & bass. 50 seminal tracks deep, from Remarc's soundclash slewing "RIP" to Marvellous Cain's jungle blueprint "Hitman" via Q Bass and E Type's early explorations into synthesis on "Hardcore Will Never Die" and formative junglism from DJ Hype, our affable Uncle continues to join the dots with the past and the future with supreme levels of detail and knowledge.

Above & Beyond (Yorobi's Dusk 2 Dawn remix) - (5:31) 107 BPM
Review: What a fantastic showing we have here as the ever-ready Arcane touches down on the awesome Defrostatica imprint for a top-notch four track roll through. We open up with the emotive vocal shimmers and high energy breaksy-shuffles of 'Above & Beyond', a high energy introduction that truly sets the tone nicely. From here, 'Rave Cadet' ups the energy level, diving into a realm of sweet sweet hardcore with vibrant jungle drum sweeps and old school chords, with 'For You' then diving into an even more intense moogfest, focusing on nothing but bass and drum. Finally, Yorobi delivers a beautiful rework of 'Above & Beyond' as his Dusk 2 Dawn mix gives us an ice-dripping overhaul, also acting as the perfect closer.

Dub Pistols & Freestylers - "Nice Up" (feat Horseman) - (3:45) 105 BPM Hot
Review: Barry Ashworth and his band of merrymakers return with their ninth studio album. Shooting from the hip with swaggering ill behaviour, with a strong presence from fellow breaks OGs Freestylers and renowned and decorated singers Natty Campbell, Cheshire Cat, Top Cat (plus many other collaborators) their big party sounds remains consistent with everything they've delivered over the last 25 years... Intoxicated, high energy and refusal to sit still. Highlights include the big D&B swing of 'Soundboy Killa' (which tips its hat heavily at their original Cyclone sound) the easy-vibe reggae buzz of 'If You Ever Get A Draw', the heated jungle flavours of 'Spitfire' and the super toasty spirit of 'Nah Give It Up'. These are just the tip of the bullet... Dub Pistols remain fully loaded.

Hyroglifics & Deft - "Two For Two" - (3:00) 100 BPM
Review: As you can imagine, Hyroglifics landing on Critical Music for a full three track display is always going to cause somewhat of a ruckus. This collection is a perfect example of understanding the room as the chiming vocal repetition and tweaking 140 synthetics of 'Sing To It' open us up with a fiery feeling of originality. From here, Deft arrives for a slightly quicker paced episode as the crunching synthesiser pounds and the bubbling subs of 'Two For Two' give us another gutpunching original. Finally, we skip back into the 170's with 'Albany Road', a synthetic slapper, switching and alternating between gnarly bass textures and well processed drum punches, giving us the perfect closer to this already intense collection.

Waterfall Reverse - (7:12) 107 BPM
Review: Next up from Lone, a tasty trip into the unknown as we see two brand new creations come to us courtesy of the Greco-Roman imprint, a platform that has clearly allowed Lone a creative touch whilst putting these together. We begin with 'Triton', the working title track and a frankly gorgeous display of synthetic soundscaping and vocal variation, taking an emotive sample and chopping it into something super catchy, blended with bubbling chord progressions and tasty 2-step rhythms. On the flip, a more jungle-inspired throwdown as 'Waterfall Reverse' delivers acidic bass notation and nostalgic rolling drum-lines, giving us a polar opposite feeling and rounding off this two-tracker in exciting fashion.

BadboE - "Get On Up" - (4:27) 105 BPM Hot
Mako/Mr Bristow - "Re-Freshed Rhymes" - (2:54) 100 BPM
Review: Morlack assembles yet another distinguished troupe for his latest label collection. All exclusives, all funky, all guaranteed to smash your party's trousers to pieces, highlights include the Parliament-level squidgy funk on DJ Clairvo's "I Like To Like It", DiscObeta's disco-flexing fix of Redman on "Get It On", Mako & Mr Bristow's super nerdy homage of criminally overlooked hip-hop classics "Re-Freshed Rhymes" and Itchy Bastards' guitar-slapping glitch space disco breaker "Let Yourself Go". Morlack has the honour of closing the show, and he does so with a euphoric twist on an A-Ha classic. Incredible stuff, it needs to be heard to be believed.

Fyah Burnin' - (4:25) 106 BPM
Review: Beat Machine here return to continue their footwork inspired rampages, doing so with the employing of Pablo Dread, who comes up with this highly experimental 'Burnin' EP. We begin with the junglistic drum rolls and powerful sub pressure of 'Watch It', before we then lean into 'Fyah Burnin', throughout which the jungle themes continue to roll. To follow, we dive into the intense drum clicks and ascending bass tones of 'What's Going On', which rounds up the originals nicely. We are then treated to Fixate's heavyweight D&B rework of 'Fyah Burnin', completely revamping the track into a stripped back roller.

Sound Gangsta (feat Red Fox - NYC mix) - (3:21) 100 BPM
Sound Gangsta Riddim (NYC instrumental) - (3:21) 100 BPM
Review: NY x TO x JA! The international link up continues as Marcus Visionary and Liondub hook up once again under their Rumble alias. Recent beats have been graced by young upcoming talents whereas their latest workout "Sound Gangsta" has been created especially for a man that is somewhat of a veteran and legend in the game; Red Fox. The Jamaica raised New York resident has a breathless flow and a unique talent for effortlessly switching tones, flows and dynamics. All of his skills are on show for this one.
The A side Dancehall mix gives an interesting polished production take on Rumble's brand of dancehall with plenty of contemporary rap and hip hop influences. Think Mr. Collipark meets Tarik "Rvssian" Johnston.
Liondub's signature sounds are evident in the NYC mix, which swaps claps for snares and the modern polished sounds are swapped for stripped back for old school New York HipHop sounds in a constantly fluctuating 8 bar dancehall form. There is a tasty jungle mix that time stretches the vocal and synth hook and under lays it with booming sub bass and rattling tribal beats. Red Fox's slowed flow sits perfectly on top of jungle beats which probably tells you that all these dance promoters like Jungle Mania are missing a trick not booking him! There is a whole set of instrumental mixes for when you have vocalists on set and we are looking forward to hip hop and dancehall vocalists jumping on these for freestyles and ciphers over the next few months.

Review: Roast Beatz' Cuttin It Fine imprint hits its second outing with a fine motley collective of friends proffering party treats; Cockney Nutjob tip toes around the broken glass, pushing us closer to the edge over a sunny side skank on "Roar", El Bomba tells us to shut up and pay attention over a classic loose limbed funk break, B-Side Roast Beatz get emotional and dreamy over a rolling, subby 808 beat before flipping into a vibrant D&B finale on "Un-Fadeable" before the bossman brings home the bacon and pulls off the pork with the most upbeat, party bumping jam. Review: Fresh from his "Hammerhead" escapades on Aquatic Lab, Dave Jones dons his Zed Bias guise for another slippery bass session. This time he takes the footwork formula and twists it inside out in a way only he knows how: "Driftin" soothes with jazzy chords and velvet vocals from Zoel Violet, "Fever" is all about the dense physical drum arrangements while "Hipbounce" is a sonic sandstorm of soca and occasional UKG bass belches. Unique as always.

Review: The hardest working troupe to come out of Manchester in recent years, Grand Theft Audio bossmen Sola finally reveal their debut album. Proud champions of all styles and subgenres of drum & bass, their album 'Stars Align' brings together everything the trio are about... And plenty more. Highlights include the absolutely firing Latin banger 'Pico De Gallo', the glitchy Opiou-inspired cosmic beats piece 'Turncloak' and the absolutely firing 'Amazonia' which brings together pretty much every flavour of D&B all in one track. All this and plenty more, Sola have delivered something very special right here.
