Major touches down for a vibrant, industrial rework, focussing on crunching drum sounds and moody breaks to match, before Nishesque fuses both hard hitting drum & bass with glittering progressive house, somehow! Next up, more breaksy goodness with Soul Central pumping through unique rhythmic grooves, followed by a killer closer as Dee Montero unleashes a vibrant, funky inspired finisher. Top work!

Review: This latest helping of futuristic goodness from the Top Drawer Digital team sees them dive into their third full length compilation drop, once again expanding the 'Abstractions' series with a solid helping of new school breakbeat flavour. Featuring 36 creations, this selection is a DJ's secret weapon for certain, with the likes of Kefford, Sub Fusion, Outrage, Sanxion, S.U.R.E and Nyxen alongside many more delivering top quality additions to the track listing. For us, this is a project best absorbed through the attached continuous DJ MIX, but our standouts would have to include the brain-boggling wave synth work of The Rumblist's 'Mind Blown', alongside the more throwback metallic dinks of Lucas's 'Light & High Beauty' original. Sensational stuff from all involved.

Review: As ever, it is a truly exciting time to be a CruCast fan, with this latest christmas compilation seeing some of the biggest names in the business join forces for a ferocious throwdown. The tracklisting itself is made up of non-stop bass stardom, with the likes of heavyweights such as Skepsis, Kanine, Darkzy, Window Kid, Turno, Disrupta, Original Sin and Sub Zero being just a handful that immediately jump out. The project features a range of heaters from across 2023, including the hard hitting sounds of Zero's 'Acting Like ILY', the sizzling synthesiser swipes of Amplify & Nu Elementz's 'See Me' and of course the unforgettable euphoria of AC13 and Grace Barton's 'Mesmerised'. A damn fine way to close off another successful CruCast year.

Our highlights that have an immediate standout would have to include Ale-DarkNoise's heavyweight 'Pump Up' arrangement, a super vibrant thunder drop, alongside the more liquefied synth work of Zero Dark's 'Losing You'.

The constant changes of direction and expansionary sense of sonic inclusion are both big yesses from us, with our favourites including 9Trane's nostalgic bubbler 'Thuggish', next to the housey piano drives of Herve's 'Live Together' and the old school garage flavour of Matt Jam Lamont, Echelon & Tuff Culture, who join focus for 'Massive & Crew'. Tidy work indeed!

Review: Laurent Garnier and Scan X's label does a great job in showcasing emerging and established talent, and this split release is no exception. The brilliantly named Return Of The Luddites deliver the raw electro-techno of "Scream Into The Darkness". In stark contrast, Detroit techno-inspired tracks also loom large, courtesy of Skatman's string-filled "Tribute To A Dancefloor" and Squal G's more ominous "Waiting 4U". Mirroring Garnier's own wide-ranging tastes, the release also features the call and response hip-hop/drum'n'bass crossover of Joaquim Plossu, Salem Focus and Phoebe Train's "Theory Of The Tide". Taking the tempo down, Yes Basketball's "Next" is a slowed down, bugged out beatsy track.

Review: Barry Ashworth and his band of merrymakers return with their ninth studio album. Shooting from the hip with swaggering ill behaviour, with a strong presence from fellow breaks OGs Freestylers and renowned and decorated singers Natty Campbell, Cheshire Cat, Top Cat (plus many other collaborators) their big party sounds remains consistent with everything they've delivered over the last 25 years... Intoxicated, high energy and refusal to sit still. Highlights include the big D&B swing of 'Soundboy Killa' (which tips its hat heavily at their original Cyclone sound) the easy-vibe reggae buzz of 'If You Ever Get A Draw', the heated jungle flavours of 'Spitfire' and the super toasty spirit of 'Nah Give It Up'. These are just the tip of the bullet... Dub Pistols remain fully loaded.

Review: The Dansu Discs team have assembled a killer selection for our enjoyment here, from the one and only Bailey Ibbs, unleashing six tracks of UKG flavour. We begin with the softened chord maneuvers and crunchy drum processing of 'Gurl', a worthy title track, which is closely followed by the much more breaks-driven influences of 'We Run' and luscious, bubbling soundscapes of 'What's My Chance?', giving us a super-wide sounding selection of originals. On remix duty, we see three parties give 'Gurl' the once over, with Groovy D giving us a throwback 2-step rethink, Denham Audio sending the stems to the junglist chop shop and AK Sports combining gnarly, acidic basslines and hardcore drums to take it somewhere completely different.

Review: Suburban Base Recordings have pulled every favour out of the back and left no stone unturned in their pursuit of creating a top quality compilation, giving us sixteen tracks of pure breakbeat energy. From start to finish, the quality level simply refuses to dip, from the jungle influenced drum dips and chords of 'Come My Selecta' from DJ Peekay, to the nostalgic hardcore melodies of Max Voltage's 'Make You Scream' and GBH's throwback-inspired roller in 'Back From The Grave'. Providing the perfect combination of jungle and breaks from start to finish, our highlights would have to include the jittering horn melodies of E.Kude's 'Common Sens', the synth-raining shimmers of E-Type's 'E-25' and of course the electrifying drum chops of D'Cruze's 'Life', alongside the awesome vocals of Rachel Wallace. Awesome work!
